Typically, we pull up to Ace Hotel, Hoxton Hotel or another cozy cafe in Shoreditch to crank out sentence after sentence. And you guessed it -- we're usually hungry by the day's end. We're also usually broke. Now that we've got the particulars out of the way, this day was no different. Vic and I were in search of some good, fulfilling street food for the low. I was honestly hoping to find something that was less than 10 pounds. So we headed to Soho in London's West end -- an area that neither of us frequents often. Just as I was scrambling along Greek Street to hustle up some content for one of my gigs, we spotted the cutest pink facade with white lettering. Two men stood in front of the narrow window so we couldn't quite tell what it was exactly until the smells swept under my nostrils. The menu at Pleasant Lady Trading is very small which can be a good or a bad thing depending on who you ask. I was extremely hungry at this moment so a small menu was heaven sent. I'm usually pretty indecisive when it comes to food choices so this 4-option menu was perfect. The base of these Chinese-style crepes ( traditionally known as Jian Bing) is the 'original veggie' option to which you can then add meat. I opted for the 'cumin lamb' because lamb is never a bad idea and cumin is one of my favorite spices on planet Earth. I was not wrong, y'all. It was everything. Oh and Victoria ordered the 'chicken miso' and 'twas was delicious, too. Don't let anyone tell you that London street food isn't top-notch. I got the pork jian bing which has egg, juice marinated pork, a mix of cilantro/herbs, cucumber, and I think pickled veg, with a fermented bean/chili oil sauce lightly painted on the bing. Service was quick and it's made in front of you. Only difficulty is not dropping it all over the floor as you're stuffing it into your mouth, hah.

This ended up being the first thing I ate after my redeye (washed down with Turkish coffee and hard cider, clearly I know how to treat my body right). The line can be long, but it moves swiftly. Service is impatient so act fast. The pork sandwich itself is mildly overrated; I found too much of the meat to be fatty, and too much of the skin to be tough and stringy. But there were some very lovely and juicy bites in there, and the apple sauce is a nice touch. Worth a try, though I'd get someone to split it with you as it's quite hefty.

Less than a block away from my office during the lunch rush? I'll take it. My first visit here was stressful. OH THE CHOICES. SO MANY. I opted for the 'make your own salad' (which starts you off with mixed lettuce and your choice of dressing) and from there you can add as many extras as you'd like. BE CAREFUL though because each item comes with a price (£1 for chicken/tuna/etc, 60p for avocado/sundried tomatoes/etc, and so on) and before you know it, you're spending £10 on a salad! There are just so many good options though. Not just tomatoes (yawns) or cucumber (checks watch) or red onions (sighs heavily). Lately I've been going for a combination of avocado, grilled mushrooms, fresh coriander, pine nuts, cherry tomatoes, and grilled chicken, all with the balsamic dressing. It's heaven in a takeaway box. Every day at lunchtime, I have an internal battle with myself on what to have for lunch. Nuvo wins most of the time. Okay all of the time.

More comfort foods include burgers with fried eggs, burritos, falafel, and other delicacies from all over the world. Every vendor is very kind and willing to take the time to tell you the story behind the food. Conveniently located on Rupert street, which is a stone's throw from the Berwick Street market (where you can pick up produce, organic milk, etc), it's a great one-stop trip during your lunch break or midday adventure. Prices are incredibly reasonable for every dish, portions are huge, and they have tables and benches set up to festively eat right there on the street. These folks work really hard, they set up and break down their tents and cooking stalls every day they're in operation, and never leave a mess in the street. A must-try if you're central in Soho.

It's about all they're serving, but trust me, it's enough. The duck confit burgers come with your choice of 3 different cheeses, bleu cheese, raclette, or goat's cheese. Personally, I'm not the biggest cheese fan, and always go for the raclette, as it's milder. What makes the burgers even better is the truffle mayo- and if you're lucky, truffle honey- that they're putting on them, which makes the flavors pop all the more. The chips also come with a huge dollop of truffle mayo on top. One setback I would say to the whole operation is the usual lack of seating wherever these guys are to be found. If you don't have friends with you, that means you need to either only order one thing to hold it with one hand and eat with the other, or make a friend fast, to help share the load. Still, it is one of THE best burgers- duck, or otherwise- I've ever had, so I'm not complaining... too much. At £8 a pop- or £10 including the chips- it may not be the cheapest- nor the healthiest- thing you can find on the streets, but it's definitely worth every pence.

Perfect to munch on while you're making the difficult decision of what to eat. Duck confit brioche bun £6 duck confit cooked on a flat top with duck cracklin (omg) and your choice of cheese. In order of my preference: goat cheese with honey, blue cheese with honey, cheddar. The bun is griddled with duck fat and the sandwich is built with mustard, onion jam and rocket. It's divine. Of those I have sampled however, Jerusalem Falafel was the runaway winner. An enormous wrap (a good foot long) with 3 large falafel inside, as much salad as you think you could eat, and the usual sauces - for a fiver! You can upgrade for another pound and get a couple more falafel pieces, but you probably don't need to; this is one filling lunch. The only thing stopping a 5-star review is the mess up in the ordering; I asked for the large, was charged for the large, but didn't notice that they only put the 3 pieces in my wrap until I got back to the office to eat. However, I didn't feel ripped off, as I said this was great value even at the extra pound. There isn't exactly a choice in what you get, besides the salad and sauce, but what they give you is top notch. I will be back to see if the quality is consistent, as this may become my new favourite cheap lunch spot in Soho...
