I've been coming here for years, but this was my second visit in less than a month. A couple of weeks ago, I bought a pair of shoes along with custom insoles. They were definitely more expensive than what I could have found elsewhere, but I've always felt this place stands behind what they sell, so I didn't mind paying a little more. During that visit I also signed up for the VIP membership. For what it costs, the benefits seemed like a no-brainer, especially the 90-day return policy. After wearing the shoes for a while, though, I realized they just weren't the right fit for me. On top of that, the custom insoles had started squeaking every time I walked, which became impossible to ignore. I went back today expecting to return everything and maybe try something else. Instead, I met Yella. She never made me feel like I was inconveniencing her. Before talking about a return, she wanted to understand what wasn't working. She tried a few adjustments, asked questions, and then said something I honestly don't hear very often anymore: "What do you want to do?" It wasn't just something she said because she had to. She genuinely wanted to help me find the best solution. From there, the whole experience went to another level. She had me take off my shoes and socks, put me on a treadmill, and recorded how I walked and jogged. Then we moved over to another station where different sensors measured my feet from every angle. Finally, she showed me a detailed report on the screen explaining how my feet move, where the pressure points are, and why the original shoes weren't working as well as they should. I learned more about my feet in 20 minutes than I have in my entire life. The funny part is that I walked in planning to return roughly $400 worth of shoes and insoles. Instead, I walked out happy--and with another pair of shoes. The pair Yella recommended, along with the fitting technology, felt right the moment I put them on. Good products are easy to find. People like Yella are much harder to find. She turned what I expected to be a return into one of the best customer service experiences I've had in a long time. Very awkward experience for a specialty running store, didn't feel like I should have to be the one to approach the staff who aren't busy to ask if they can assist. Great experience with purchasing running shoes here! I had a sales associate help me with the process, from trying on a few options and recommending I go up a half size with my shoe inserts! So glad they suggested because it's made a huge difference with my running and I never would have thought to go up a half size. The shoes are great- asics novablast, springy and lightweight. Highly recommend coming here for a good pair of running shoes. They even have treadmills for you to use to really get a feel for the shoe. read more

After wearing down the soles on my pair of Under Armour running shoes and receiving a gift certificate from my aunt at Christmas to Road Runner Sports, I made my way into the store today, Sunday 28 January 2024, to see about getting a new pair. Heading in, I was unsure/did not have preferences for a certain brand of shoe (I had noticed in online offerings no Under Armour options). I arrived a few minutes before opening and spotted a few birds in a tree watching me. I asked them about Swedish runner Arne Andersson (former world record holder in the 1 mile run) and they convinced me my purchase of the day should be in the spirit of him. Once the lights were turned on and the door unlocked, I went over and entered the store. A couple of workers were inside the entrance and I was asked if I had shopped here before, which was a no, and then I was asked if I was here for shoes, which was a yes. A helpful and friendly worker, Samantha, took me through the fitting process, which included measurements such as arch height, foot width, foot length, and foot/ankle/lower leg flexibility. I was active for some of the measurements, including walking on a treadmill so video footage could be collected of my Achilles in motion. Following measurements, I went to the area with the shoes and tried on four different options recommended from the fitting and picked out by the worker. I liked all of them (Brooks Ghost 15, Brooks Launch 10, Brooks Levitate 6, and a Saucony option), and selected the Brooks Launch 10 for my purchase of the day. There was ample space to pace in the shoes and get a feel for each when I was trying them on. Payment with my gift certificate was straightforward. The price was excellent per my experience ($100-$110 pre-tax range). Only drawback of my experience was that I came about 10 a.m. on a non-rainy Sunday in January. Most street parking was full, lost of residents parked as not at work for the day, and I ended up parking on Sunnyside, about 0.4 miles away. Have been shopping road runner sports for a long time and the service is why I continue to come back. I recently went in to return two pairs of hokas that didn't fit and my wife and I were greeted by Davyonn. He quickly asked what I didn't like about the shoe and recommended options. I fully intended on just returning the shoes but Davyonn was very excited to show me a couple options. I settled on a pair of new balances, he noticed my wife's brooks were looking a little run down and he offered her options as well. He took time, was attentive but also did a good job greeting and setting up other clients with associates . At no point did the sale feel pushy and we ended up leaving with 3 pairs of new shoes . I think this is a great example of turning a return into a positive experience. I can tell he has a true passion for the product and is a great representative of what I think retail is often lacking! I walk a lot and need reliable shoes. I had a great pair of Hokas that I wore out. I first went to Super Jock and Jill for a replacement. Pair of shoes. They sold me a nice pair of Hokas. Unfortunately, the shoes were ill fitting. After researching, I found that Road Runner sports offered more customized services. I decided to come here for a more individualized services. Super Jockey and Jill did not offer the unique fitting services, I needed. My salesperson was Anthony. He was helpful in suggesting a variety of shoes that would specifically fit my needs. He brought out about eight different shoes, that would fit my walking needs best. He also showed me the specifics of my walking test and how best a shoe could meet these requirements. This was informative, as I had no idea about how to choose a walking shoe. I surprisingly chose Sacony rather than my loved Hokas. I do not like shoe shopping. Too many choices and many do not fit my walking needs. I could be easily fooled with their fitting and gait analysis. It impressed me enough to buy shoes from here, for the more individualized attention. I got the custom insoles, plus the shoes. Plan on wearing these out in the coming months. For individualized attention, I recommend this store for your shoes. read more

I had THE BEST help from Audrey at the Green Lake Road Runner this week. I have been having a lot of foot pain and she was able to clearly understand and explain to me what was going on after my foot was analyzed using their technology. She brought out several pairs of shoes that would address my situation, gave me plenty of time to try them on and walk around, and was like greased lightning is slipping my orthodics in and out of multiple pairs of shoes making it easier for me to try them on. She was knowledgable, warm, helpful, and delightful to work with. I am very happy with the shoes I purchased and I can't recommend her highly enough! read more

This running store was located just east of Green Lake, a relatively short walk from the Roosevelt Station. While I did only come here to pick up my race packet for a local half marathon, I ended up checking out their store as I was due to replace my worn out running belt. I didn't find a suitable replacement, but the store was very well organized. The employees were all nice and friendly. If I'm ever in the area and need any running equipment or an emergency pair of shoes, I'll most likely be coming here. read more

I've purchased mountaineering, hiking, climbing, and downhill ski boots lots of times. But I've never had the sort of technical analysis that I received at Road Runner. I booked an appointment for a fitting at Road Runner Sports on January 9th. (Photo attached) I drove down turned up a little early, found a parking spot on the street and went to the store. I found it closed. There were employees in the store but nobody came to the door to serve me. I posted a 2* review here since the store closed early and nobody bothered to contact me to cancel my appointment. I had made a special trip just to visit them for the first time and was understandably disappointed with that experience. Then on Yelp Rhian reached out to me to "make it right." I gave her my info. Then after a week of hearing nothing I contacted her again. She apologized and said someone would be in touch. It's now February 23rd and nobody ever got in contact with me. Without an appointment I visited one of their competitors (REI) and I was able to get fitted with some shoes that exactly fit my need. The clerk was very knowledgeable in the way that I expected a clerk at a running specialty store to be. Contrasting these two experiences is so easy. I just can't recommend Road Runner after experiencing 3 broken promises in a row. UPDATE: hey, someone finally contacted me on 2/24. Reid offered for me to have an appointment with a leader from Road Runner and gave me his contact info for the next time I need shoes. I hope that at that time I can come back and update this review. He said that he very much appreciated the feedback and that they were able to use it to make changes at the store. read more

This just goes to prove that Angie just automatically posts responses to make her look good -- that she cares about the reviews. Six days ago I bought another pair of Hocas -- at Super Jock 'n Jill. [Note: This review is more about RR's sales practices; this is not a critique about the sales person, as she was just following the rules.] I do not like how the sales people there split their time between different sets of customers. Simultaneously. This is the first shoe store I have ever I have ever run into that has this practice. Today, I went in looking for runner shoes. The sales lady was nice and friendly, no doubt about that, but between doing the measurements and picking out various shoes for me to try, no less than 5 different times she went off to help different customers!! While I was being waited on!! Using the treadmill, I tried on 4 different pairs of shoes. All by myself. No sales lady around to offer advice and whatnot. I then returned to the bench and arranged in order the 4 pairs of shoes -- ranked from most desirable to least desirable. And I waited. Sales person came back but then had to go help other customers!! (I will say that every time she came back, she thanked me for my patience (which was rapidly wearing thin) for waiting.) After that happened (this was the 5th time), when I was just about ready to make my decision of which shoes to buy, but again wanted her input and advice, that was the last straw. So I told the front-desk person that I didn't like being ignored, and walked out. I'll go buy them at Super Jock n' Jill instead. read more

The store itself: Completely lovely, fine, helpful. Five stars. But, aaack: Fraud alert! You know how you're signed up for, like, 100 store 'VIP memberships'? (We've got ones for tres leches cake, dog food, five different grocery stores, a distillery, ad infinitum.) Imagine if every single store then charged you *fifty freakin' dollars* every year for this 'free' membership! Here's the scam/fraud: They get you to sign up, wait a year or two, then charge your credit card, telling you you signed up. So shady. read more

My teen son wanted to try on some trail runners, looking for shoes for an upcoming hike. We came into the store, walked over to the shoes, and got stopped by a sales person who told us to go stand by a blue bench away from the shoes. Had to put up with 10 minutes of unnecessary gait analysis and foot scanning and attempts to sell us custom insoles (!) before we were even allowed to go *look* at shoes. I wanted a 15-minute try on shoes experience, and we ended up with 35+ minutes of sales patter and unnecessary fluff. Having custom fitting, gait anaylsis, etc. is great for people who WANT that, but for folks who pretty much know what they want, aren't looking to spend all day, and don't want unnecessary $90 custom insoles pushed on them, I wouldn't recommend this store. We literally couldn't just look at shoes without submitting to all the unnecessary upselling. read more

I have been a member here for a few years and buy one - two pair of shoes per year. Recently, they were going to charge me a higher membership fee than I ever had and my CC declined for potential fraud. I found out when my CC sent me a notice about the charge and when that card did not work, they tried to charge another card and then my debit card. All the cards declined it as fraud and put a hold on my card - I found out when my debit card was declined for a coffee! When I called customer service - I was told that this happens all the time to their 30,000 members. I am so frustrated that a company went through my payment history and charged every payment method they could find without reaching out via email or text! I have now spent 2 hours of time identifying who I am and getting the fraud holds off my cards. I am no longer a member and will be warning my friends. Do better Road runner, fix your policies and put your customers before your profits. read more

I went in soon after opening today to look for a new pair of running shoes. Nolan helped me with the running assessment and was able to get me fitted with a few selections of shoes. The assessment went very quickly and Nolan thoroughly explained everything that was going on with the data. I was not picky on the looks of the shoe and was just looking for the right fit shoe. Nolan was able to give some great advice on the different shoes available from his previous running experience in college. He was genuinely a great person to talk to for a new runner like myself. I competed the whole process with him in about 40 minutes between the assessment, trying on shoes and finalizing the purchase. Was a great first experience for me at the green lake location. read more

I had a very disappointing visit to Road Runner Sports. After many years of buying running shoes online, I decided it would be helpful to go to a brick and mortar store to have a real conversation with someone who knows running, knows the various shoes on the market, and can give me recommendations based on my needs. What I got instead was an extremely negative sales experience. The salesperson who was working with me constantly attempted to upsell me on additional products and accessories - along with the "VIP Program" - that I did not ask for. When I asked questions about the shoes I was intending to buy as well as some of the products he was trying to upsell, the salesperson couldn't give me any particular information about why I needed those products. He proceeded to fit me for custom insoles and focus on the upselling more than on my actual product questions. I understand that the store management is more at fault than this individual salesperson - it was clear that I was interacting with someone focused on making a sale rather than someone with a deep knowledge of running. I visited a running shoe store to get quality information about running shoes and support in selecting a product. I did leave with a pair of shoes, but I did not feel confident in the purchase. The salesperson could never really tell me why they were the best shoes for me, and I ultimately had to rely on my own research. read more

The price was a little out of my preferred price range and I found the same ones, different color on Amazon for $50, but while I was in the store I had amazing service from Alaina. Against our better judgment, our family went to the Greenlake shop instead of the Bellevue store. The customer service in the Greenlake store is terrible. The word terrible is actually being used generously. The young woman who was supposed to be helping our family had zero interest in helping us while other employees simply stood around and talked to each other. Are you kidding me? This isn't the first time, or even the third time. This is the attitude all...the...time!!!!!!!!!! I'm constantly surprised by this because I've been to several other RRS on the west coast and never once had an issue. In this shop, it's always the same, terrible...and I mean *terrible, awful, unbelievably bad* customer service. I do not recommend this shop to anyone...ever! Do yourself a favor and go to the Road Runner Sports in Bellevue where you'll be treated with respect and courtesy. I would complain to the manager, but the last time we did that, the store manager acted like they couldn't care less. This shop is run atrociously and the people working there are exceptionally pretentious, yet for no good reason. It's not as if they were even that busy. I won't waste time with this pathetic group of people or the shop management. You shouldn't either. Go to one of the other Road Runner Sports stores. read more

I bought my first pair of running shoes in probably a decade due to multiple injuries. I am walking in them at home and I am actually looking forward to running in them. My older brother who runs tons of marathons uses the run-walk-run method so I am gonna give that a try. The manager Jim helped me find the right pair by using their really cool video analysis of the way I run on a treadmill. Plus we did the insole fitting. He took great care of me and the handoff to Avery was very smooth. Full disclosure- my son with developmental disabilities has worked part time here for a few years and they treat him well. They genuinely seem happy to have him as a colleague and are patient with him. Regardless, I have never tried the high tech method for shoe shopping and this may make me a believer. I stuck for Nike Air Pegasus for years but I think these Brooks will work a lot better. Thanks! read more

I'm a newbie who is just getting into running. I was recommended this store by a runner friend who frequents here. I have to say, I had a FANTASTIC first visit. I was kind've nervous being a complete first timer looking for my first pair of running shoes. But Sam, who assisted us, completely took the pressure off of the experience. I opted for the foot analysis they offered and she walked me through the entire process and made it easy to understand each step. She was super knowledgeable about their stock and the brands they carry; and was so helpful and accommodating while we were on the floor trying on shoes. I ended up with a pair of Hoka Cliftons that I LOVE and Sam was a big part of making the visit such a positive one, I will definitely be visiting again! read more

VIP membership is a scam. I signed up for the membership a long time ago, but haven't shopped here in years. I just recently learned that the business automatically renews the membership yearly without sending notifications or receipt. I found this out after reviewing my credit card statement, which show an unlabeled charge for $39.99. I had to call my credit card company to find out where the charge came from. Turns out Road Runner Sports has been renewing this membership yearly. I'm sure the fine print says something about automatic annual renewals, but it's pretty shady that they do this without any notice (no email, no mail, no call, no text). Their inventory and running knowledge is subpar. You can get better running gear and more trustworthy service around the corner. read more

We spent about 2 hours in store getting fitted, and while they called the hsoe warehouse to get the shoes I had chosen shipped to me. Weeks later, the shoes had not arrived. I called only to find out the order had been cancelled. They send a metric ****ton of emails every week, so how would I ever see the notification? Huge waste of my time. Why have shoes on the shelves if they don't have them in stock? If you want to spend hours picking out overpriced shoes, only to have your order be cancelled, be my guest. I'm so annoyed. I made a special trip down here to get new gym shoes on a weekday early afternoon. I walked in and no one was obviously there to greet and funnel you to the right person, so I stood awkwardly by women's shoes until one associate asked if I needed help. I said yes and she said she would get someone to me and disappeared for a moment but when she came back she continued to help the people she was with. I sat and waited...and for the next 20 minutes saw sales associates greet and help 3 groups of people who had come in after me. WTF? How did they get waited on and I didn't? I went in to Road Runner today to buy some running shoes after hiking for a few months. Satchel helped me by taking me through the custom fit process, with a 3D foot scan and gait analysis. He even conferred with colleagues to make sure there was consensus regarding the positioning of my Achilles' tendon and what it said about the flexibility of my foot/ankle. He listened actively as I explained my experience with Altra shoes and preference for a wide toe box. He made sure I had a proper orthotic (I did) and that it was working for me. He selected some stability shows that came in a wide size for me to try on. I have never tried wide shoes before but now I know what I've been missing! This is what my feet have been asking for- space and support. Satchel hung in there with me throughout the process, answering my questions and demonstrating friendliness and willingness to help. He really seemed to care that I found the right shoe. I signed up for the VIP rewards program because of the awesome benefit of being able to return shoes within 90 days if they turn out to cause problems or not be a great fit. I discovered this store a year ago and it never disappoints! I think my favorite part is the intentional service I got from the person that helped me. He was asking solid questions, made great suggestions, if he didn't know the answer, he asked his peers to get me knowledgeable answers. Even though he was also helping others, the service was great and individualized. I left today with a new pair I've never bought before and excited to see how it goes. Every time I go here, the staff are friendly and helpful. I was in desperate need of better fitting running shoes and they helped. Rickie evaluated my gait, my running style, and the dimensions of my feet. He listened to what my podiatrist suggested and explained why he chose the shoes he picked for me to try out. Before purchasing the shoes, he let me run around the block with them and see how they felt. Of course, he tried to upsell me on the insoles, but they all have to do that and I made up my mind before showing up that I didn't want them (I had them before and they didn't do anything for me.) Not worth the trip. The place was understaffed and i waited for about 20 minutes before even being placed on a waitlist. I wanted insoles and I tried to describe my gait issue. Instead of listening they pushed their road runner brand insoles on me. This is a big red flag especially when they carry other brands. I took a jog on the treadmill and tested my knee tracking and pronation. Insoles didn't seem correct and nobody came back to help for 10 minutes so I walked out without buying anything. The sales person asks her if she's looking for stability, what not. She's extremely nice and informative. They pick out a pair (and they said go up size) she likes.. and, there you have it. Katie S. walks out the door with new running shoes. 'GONG!' Sucka.. Scenario C: Katie S. walks into Road Runner Sports one day, in search of some good running shoes. She walks over to the walk, and thinks, 'These are cute'. Picks 'em up, asks for a size. The sales dude, Bruce, stops her. 'Okay' he says, "let's figure out your footprint'. He has Katie S. walk over this pad, and describes to her the kind of runner she is, what she needs in a shoe, what works, what doesn't. He takes her over to the wall, shows her what she needs, helps her pick out, like 10 pairs, of shoes, and is there THE ENTIRE TIME. Finally,(an hour later- and yes, still w/ her!) they settle on some Mizunos. Custom insoles- $15- hell yes.. and she leaves a happy camper. But wait! Two weeks later, after her 1/2, she returns to Bruce, unsatisfied b/c the shoes 'don't work for her'. 'No worries' says Bruce.. and Bam, an exchange for a great pair of Shox which she still wears to this day! *DINGDINGDING* We have a winner.. if you chose C, you are right and damn straight, these people know their stuff. They are so unbelievably dedicated and helpful. I feel like I could go in and just hang out there.. it was suppa! So, a few other FAB things worth mentioning: * They have this 'VIP' club. It's $50 a year and gets you 15 or 20% off all purchases. Also, when you join, they just deduct if from your first purchase.. if you buy shoes, it's essentially free! **When you buy shoes here, you can return them for an exchange before 60 days if you're not completely satisfied. VIP members can RETURN for a full refund up to 60 days. If you are ever unsatisfied AT ANY TIME after the 60 days, exchange 'em. ***They sell slightly worn shoes. Cleaned and ready to go.. Great selection of runners gear here- apparel, water bottles, goo. Super nice staff, great hours. Can't say enough good things about this place.. Clearly. read more

Their selection is really wide and they carry all the major brands (Nike, under armor, brooks, new balance, Adidas, etc.), and I was also very impressed with their own Road Runner brand - everything was so cute!! I always love my experience at Road runner!!! I've been getting my shoes here for 8 years. The custom fit process is fantastic. If you go in, ask for Clara. She's super cool and is super detailed in her analysis of your feet! They'll video tape you running on your treadmill and will even notice when one foot is slightly taller than the other and offer tactics to fix it. You will walk away super happy with your purchase! One other small tip for the management...the greenlake location is so popular that the staff sometimes seem inundated with customers. If you want a short review, just shop elsewhere. This is an update my review original review written on 1/9 [below] on 1/17 to bring it from 2 stars down to 1 star. Their customer service replied to my 2 star review saying that they want to make the experience that I had up to me "right away." I emailed them as requested at 9:38pm on Monday January 10th including a screen shot of my appointment email. I have received no reply or communication from Road Runner since that time--about a week later. It seems like this business wants to be seen as responding to negative reviews, but they don't want to actually *do* anything to make negative experiences right. Here is my original review from 1/9: Wanted to buy some running shoes this weekend. Friends mentioned this store and I thought I'd give it a try. Was going to walk-in to buy some, but friends recommended getting fitted. Looked at the website and saw that I can make an appointment online. Booked for the next day. Turned up on time for my appointment today and the store was closed early with a note on the door. Employees were inside but didn't open the door to inquire why I was there. Nobody took the time to text, email, or call me to tell me the appointment was cancelled. That's pretty rude/inconsiderate.
