Myste Lounge - Hookah and delish white wine

TINY is one word that comes to my mind when I think of this place. SUPER TINY. It's newly renovated…read moreand has reopened. The website and advertisements say it's a hookah and cigar lounge. That's the main reason we decided to go. The two other people I was with smoke cigars. I don't do neither one (hookah or cigars) but was willing to check it out with them. The owner was super nice and answered all of our questions. So, I would say the service was fine. However, he quickly explained how it was not a cigar lounge because the furniture would not be able to withstand the cigar smell, only the hookah one. There were approximately 10 people in the lounge, which made it "crowded". One thing I noticed was the decor. Nice furnishings and absolutely STUNNING photographs hanging on the wall. It gave a sultry vibe. They don't serve real food there, just bites. However, we didn't really inquire or stay longer than 5 minutes to eat. We had eaten at another location. Overall, if you're into hookah and a lot of smoke everywhere (in a SUPER TINY) local spot, this is your place. I don't see myself returning. There's nothing there for me.

I visited Myste for a private event, and while the space itself is very aesthetically pleasing, the…read moreoverall experience was disappointing, mainly due to the food and service. The lounge is on the smaller side, which actually worked well for the event and gave it an intimate vibe. The owner was also very nice and welcoming, which I appreciated. Unfortunately, that's where the positives ended. The menu is extremely limited, and you pretty much have to piece together a meal from a few items. I ordered the jollof rice and six-piece chicken wings. The wings were overpriced, overcooked, and had no flavor at all. The only options were sauces on the side (honey, ranch, or blue cheese), and when I specifically asked for honey drizzled on top with blue cheese on the side, that request wasn't followed. Even more frustrating, our server never came back to check on us or make sure everything was okay. The jollof rice was honestly the worst part. Instead of that rich, smoky flavor you'd expect, it tasted burnt with a harsh charcoal aftertaste. I've had jollof rice many times before, and this was nowhere close. I ended up sending it back. Because I was hungry, I forced myself to eat the wings, even though they were dry and lacked flavor. Overall, Myste Lounge has a nice look and potential, but the food and service really need improvement. A revamped menu and better attention to guests would make a huge difference.

There is plenty of parking available as it is located in a strip mall right next to the Lake Ridge Library. Even when they are busy, staff is always extremely nice and the food is served promptly. Their wine selection is great and I highly recommend you try out their cocktails, the bourbon glazed short rib as appetizer and the coconut poached halibut. Before you put in your order you are served a starter bread with honey flavored butter which is absolutely delicious and really sets the tone for a lovely dinner! I would highly recommend you stop by if you are in the area.

Only a handful of tables in here and the noise from the main dining room carried over into this room but still a comfortable setting to be able to hear and talk. This was our first time here and had heard some great reviews. They were definitely busy and it did show a little within the service. Our server had come by, offered water and the cocktail menu (which we would have liked when we first sat down to look through). We were sat with their menu and the wine list. He explained the specials for the evening and we ordered our drinks (Smoked Bourbon & Fig Old Fashioned, Fig 95 & Pomegrante Bourbon Smash). Their cocktails are delicious. I don't usually enjoy Old Fashioneds but their version was very good and not overly powering. Definitely different than the normal cocktail. Our server mentioned a handful of times that bread was coming but we did notice that a table sat after us receive their bread about 5 minutes or so before ours. That being said, the bread and especially the two types of butter they brought were very good. They do offer additional bread and butter if you use it all. We ordered a few appetizers - the Charred Corn Croquettes, Grilled Octopus, and Beef Carpaccio. All the appetizers were delicious. The Croquettes were well made but nothing really out of the ordinary. Grilled Octopus had great flavor but this was a much smaller portion than anticipated. The Beef Carpaccio was delicious and we really enjoyed this. Our friends also enjoyed the Little Gems salad which they split for them. For our entrees, we ordered the Grilled Filet Mignon, Coconut Poached Halibut, and the Seared Culver Duck. The Coconut Poached Halibut was split for my friends and I was able to try some. The Halibut was cooked perfectly but with the crispy rice sitting in sauce, it was no longer crispy. It was more of a rice cake. The flavors were good though, the coconut wad not overpowering. Flavor of the duck was good but the carrots that came with it were undercooked and just a little tough to chew. The flavor was there but the texture could have been anlittle better. Filet Mignon was ordered medium rare and cooked beautifully as well. Asparagus and mashed potatoes were delicious. While the entrees were overall okay, we loved the appetizers and cocktails and would come back to try the rest of the menu. Food came out at a decent pace but service was a little inconsistent.

Most of the time fish is a hit. But every now and then ( last night) to be precise, my fish was over cooked. I had to bite and pull with my teeth. By the time I started eating and realized it was overcooked, the kitchen was closed. The drinks don't always taste like what you asked for but they are strong if that's what you like. They have a police officer at the door most nights, which makes it feel a bit safer. It's definitely a cheers type of bar, everyone knows everyone. Music is old school for the most part, but they have a jukebox so the music can be adjusted. It's a nice hole in the wall. The bathroom really sucks. You have to dam near turn sideways and use the stall with the door opened. That's the one thing I hate about this spot. Seems like they tried to turn one unisex bathroom into 2 stalls. I'm pretty sure the men's room looks the same.
