Copper Compass is a little hidden gem. I recommend doing a sampling of their bottles first, then ask the wonderful TK for her recommendation on cocktails - she never steers you wrong! TK is very friendly and always has some good suggestions and may even be working on a new cocktail, so it's worth asking! This place is a must visit in the area. Grab a few bottles on the way out. First of all, the customer service at this establishment is impeccably top notch. TK is also an amazing mixologist. We came here to celebrate Hubby's Bday and Copper Compass DID NOT disappoint. Superb experience! I long to return and support this beautiful, black-owned business. Our host was knowledgeable, humorous and a delight to listen to (and look at). Unfortunately, the Little Miner Taco food truck that was scheduled to be there during our visit cancelled. Nevertheless, we had a good time. The rum is smooth, potent and tasty, a quality product. My friend and I came here this weekend and I'm glad we did. It's a Rum distillery located in a strip mall, which I think is awesome. There was plenty of parking available and there is a decent amount of seating inside. The bartender and owner were great, as were the other patrons here. We had some cocktails on the menu such as the Rum Old Fashioned but also ordered drinks off the menu which I enjoyed even more. If you're a Rum lover this place is definitely worth a visit. read more

Found a black owned Rum distillery in white plains Md, we did a taste test and enjoyed the comraderie of the owner and staff. This establishment is clean nicely decorated and perfect to begin collecting rum. We sampled lemon, coconut and whiskey rum - all strong and tasty so of course we left with a couple of bottles. You can bring food into the distillery and be on the lookout for events. May be able to catch a groupon for the tour, either way well worth my way to spend a lazy Sunday! read more

My husband and I met some friends here last night and had a great time! It's off the beaten path but a cool casual spot to enjoy a few drinks. Patrons ranged in age from the 30's to 60's. A brown n sexy vibe. The Co owner Herb made sure we were taken care of and the bartender was cordial and fast. We tried the strawberry daiquiri, Copper Compass mule, mojitos and mai tais. All good but our favorite was the Lemon Drop! They don't serve food but a food truck was outside and you can bring the food inside. We will be back! read more

We were scheduled to have an event at a local brewery. We were told 2 weeks before my event they were closing down. We had to quickly find a new location and they referred us to Copper Compass Craft Distilling in White Plains MD. I heard of them and they were on my list of businesses to patronize in Charles County. I connected with their event manager, and stopped by for a walk-through. The place was aesthetically pleasing. We discussed future events and the event manager stated she would run everything by the owner. September 5th the event manager reached out via text and says she has the flu and would talk with the owner by Thursday. But on Wednesday she called to apologize about the entertainment. I was told they did not have an entertainment license. But I was more confused, because we had an entire discussion in regards to their ability to having a DJ. And then she said we could have a DJ if we rent the space. I asked her about the cost of the space. She said, $300/hr and then I asked for a substantial discount due to their error. She came back and said, the owner doesn't want to be fined, he couldn't rent the space and he would allow us to use it but no DJ ...only their house sound system. I looked up the county code, and they were actually covered for entertainment. It was a lie! At this point, I was disappointed and worried because one of guest was celebrating her birthday secured the DJ. I asked if we could have a DJ outside with the food truck. She said "yes"just as long as the guest do not take any beverages outside and we would have to rent an entire generator to use ONE OUTLET. The day of the event, it rained for several hours so we canceled the DJ. An hour before the event, the weather cleared so I called the DJ back to set up. Unfortunately, my sound guy was already at another event. I asked the event manager if we could use their outlet. Their response was a flat "NO!" so I begged our sound guy to drop off a generator since we initially canceled due to rain. Meanwhile, the food truck vendor was using the same outlet, and it just became more clear that our presence was not wanted. Minutes later, the food truck vendor was able to get his external generator up and running but I they still wouldn't allow us to use the outlet. It was the pettiest thing I've ever experienced. I was told the owner would not be present that day. Later I found out he was there the entire time! He was very distant, and it made zero effort to introduce himself. Throughout the event, the owner made my guest feel uncomfortable and my guest complained about the rude servers. For the record, we were all educated professionals, 40 and above. We just wanted to have an event that was open to Charles county residence and to fellowship with our peers. The event manager had the audacity to ask if we would still work with them in the future! I could not believe my ears. We were disheartened that a black owned business would go through such lengths to sabotaging another black owned business. That night my guest made the best out of that night and I'm sure his bar had a really good night... because of us. read more

I'm loving this distillery! I arrived in the evening and was greeted by the bartender who was super friendly. The space is very clean and decorated really cute. I had a few drinks. I recommend the Lemon Drop Liquor chilled it was really good. I also had the Fruit Punch Daiquiri. It also was really good and got me buzzed fa sure. Brand new place only been open for about a month. They make rum here. The coconut rum is a winner. The lady (TK) behind the bar was very good and when I needed something adjusted for my preferred flavor profile, she was able to make my drink perfect on no time flat. We were able to be toured by the owner Herb and he was impressive with his friendliness and openness. Found this by chance after my wife and I finished dinner. We were looking for a nightcap and found this online. Very difficult to find as it's tucked away off the main road. The inside is cool and very simple. It seems like they're rather new. They had a food truck outside as well for those looking for a bite to eat. The owner and bartender were very nice and accommodating. Provide a lot of recommendations and surprise drinks not on the menu. Everything is rum based. As of right now that's all they distill. So they have a coconut rum, white rum, and whiskey aged rum. All the drinks were handcrafted and excellent. Only knock is the limited menu and location is hard to find.
