This experience may have been one of the best since I've visited the store. Usually they are so busy it's a wait before you can get help. That's completely ok, I can wait my turn. This time this young man finished working with his previous customer and quickly came up to me and asked if I needed help. I was interested in Angel Fish, he asked me if there was any particular one I liked. I picked two of them. I asked advice about the fish that help clean tank (algae eaters). He showed me a few species, asked about the size of my tank and helped me with my choice. And now, despite treating my tank with heat and meds, I've lost my pair of kribensis to ich as well. :( This has been an ongoing nightmare. The tetras had visible ich on their tails when I released them, so there is no doubt where it came in from. I have a 50g display tank that I am terrified to now introduce fish into; the only fish that are doing well are the bleeding hearts that I couldn't care less about since I love cichlids. I'd rehome the tetras if doing so wouldn't expose another person to ich; since I can't do that, I just keep the tank lights off and throw a little food in to the tetras every other day. I am heartbroken and have learned my lesson. :( read more

This is definitely not just another fish store. "Aquaculture" is the perfect word for this place. It is much bigger than the exterior suggests and loaded with cool finds. My husband and I drive a good distance because it is worth it. We find all sorts of aquatics and items that we cannot locate elsewhere. Might I add, that they are also reasonably priced. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. Currently, they are requiring masks and do have some markings throughout the store for everyone's safety. There is a sign up sheet by the registers to have your email address added to their distribution list. You won't be sorry you did this. We get great coupons and find out about all the good deals in plenty enough time to take advantage of them. My one suggestion for the consumer is to call first if you are coming for a specific item. I came to this store because I needed help choosing an aquarium. I walked around for about 30 minutes and no one asked if I needed help. I stood outside of what appeared to be an office in the front of the store and was trying to get the attention of the stream of employees who were going in and out of this door. Not one even looked at me. I don't feel bad that I just ordered my aquarium off of Amazon. The trip to this store was just a waste of my gas. This is why retail stores are closing. read more

While driving around, my husband and I happened upon RMS Aquaculture one evening and decided to check it out the next time we were in the area. We visited today, 1/21/18, and had fun exploring the place. First, there is a good variety of fresh and saltwater fish and aquatics. They have your usual neon tetras, guppies, cichlids, and various types of mollies, as well as more exotic fish of both water types. We found two types of beautiful lion fish, tiny horseshoe crabs, sea urchins, corals, eels, and more. In the freshwater tanks, we found red bellied piranhas, gold nugget plecos, dwarf pufferfish, and a number of other interesting species. They also have a captive bred baby dwarf caiman, which was really neat! When we left the fish area, we came across a reptile wall with different types of snakes, iguanas, lizard-type reptiles, and my favorite-bearded dragons. A friendly staff member helped us and let us hold two beautiful baby coral snakes, as well as a baby bearded dragon. Towards the cash register we discovered some more animals. There were parakeets, love birds, a chinchilla, and a few guinea pigs. Nearby, there were many rows of an impressive amount of different size fish and reptile tanks and accessories. The most important thing to me at a fish and aquatic store is the State and health of the animals and plants. All the animals looked very healthy and happy, nobody looked sick or stressed out. The birds were merrily chirping and communicating with each other. The guinea pigs were piled up napping when they finished playing, and the chinchilla was curled up in his little house. The place is very clean inside, and the staff seem to take pride in working there. When we get a fish tank set up, we'll be sure to come back for fish! read more

Poor selection of freshwater fish, every decent semi exotic or exotic fish were gone. Good selection of stuff and everything you could ever need for fish, prices were ok, Amazon is cheaper, so we stood at the counter waiting to buy just a little plant and net and was going to get some aquarium backdrop after standing there for 5 minutes while a woman stood at the CASHIER LINE. With NOTHING to buy just going on and on about who cares what as we're standing there trying to pay. SORRY, no teach your employees to not be total incompetent idiots and ring out the customer WAITING to pay then continue to have your conversation. Visited today. Fairly shocked at the poor quality of the stock aquariums, general appearance and cleanliness of the store, as well as the selection of the fish. In addition, the prices were some of the highest, retail or online. Prior to, I had visited the Petsmart in Bainbridge and shocked to say they had done a much better job with everything mentioned above. read more

I can't say enough good things about this local, awesome pet and aquarium store. First off, you don't walk in and feel like it's stocked by some nasty puppy mills. I asked the worker here where they get their dogs to sell and he confirmed that they don't get their dogs from places like that. Most of them are rescues from local folks. I dig that. Secondly... holy hell this place is huge! Tons of fish, aquarium equipment and almost anything you could think of for your pets--and cheap too! We bought a 10 gallon tank for less than $10. What?! Where am I? Savings heaven? Thirdly (if that's even a word), the staff here know what they're talking about and they want to help you! I am notorious for asking tons of questions and this particular employee was so accommodating. He walked us through all the fishy owner basics we needed to know and didn't try to up-sell us on a ton of crap we didn't need. Did I mention they have baby ducklings? Yea... little yellow fur-balls waddling around. We almost left with one (just don't tell my boyfriend...) This pet store is the perfect example of how shopping locally can pay off. Really. I've been coming to RMS since I was young. There's always been a few dead fish in the tanks. That's just typical of RMS, everyone knows. However I went in today and it was truly unacceptable. How a fish store is ran like this, lord I have no idea how they manage to make sales. The reptile section is just as bad, with the reptiles starved of food, along with being placed in a glass cube. I haven't been coming here often because of the poor care of every animal in the building. But today drew the line, I'd highly recommend staying far away from here if you're looking for saltwater fish. Any aquarist knows there are many, many better fish stores around. Check out salty critter, blue fish, or aquatica. They blow RMS out of the water. read more

This is one of my favorite places to visit and shop. I got a red footed tortoise here years ago and she's been thriving, I've never personally had any issues with any of the pets I've got there. They expanded their reptile supply verity which has been super helpful to switch up her diet a bit. Also one of the few places I can find stuff for some of my less common pets. Both of my guinea pigs from RMS had underlying health issues, with one passing only 4 days after purchase. And of course, only a 72 hour guaranteed policy for returns on sick or dead animals. I have been coming to RMS for years. I love to support family businesses. But what I will not support, is a owner who cares who about sales then they do the animals. They currently have a hedgehog up for sale. He is sitting in wood shavings, which is HORRIBLE for their lungs. His food bowl has shavings littered in it, which shows me they don't ever dump out the old food and replace it. And the thing that angers me the most above all, is that he does NOT have a hut or house over him. I have brought it up TWICE now with them over the week. The second lady, who was an older lady at the register with short blonde hair, bite my head off and said "No. they don't need those." I asked her why. She said, in a very loud and defensive way, "Cause he just goes and rolls up in there and no one can see him and then he doesn't get sold." I brought it to her attention that they're nocturnal and she cut me off and said "that doesn't matter, the owner won't let us put it on him" and I said he was stressed and she just ignored me and rang out my order. Then the paper dispenser for the receipt wouldn't work and she starting blowing a fit and having a heart attack over it calling someone over to help her mumbling that she'll have to get my card again, as I got a text that I was charged. Fixed the paper, gets my signature and doesn't even say thank you or have a nice day she just kept going on to the other employee about their receipt machine while there was a line behind me. SHAME on the owner. I will NEVER spend ANOTHER DIME at this establishment AGAIN. How DARE you put your sales before the well being of your animals. And I hope others do the same. read more

So I moved to Cleveland recently from LA, and since I love having fish so much, I had my 18 gallon tank shipped here! I didn't, however, bring my fish or aquarium supplies (I blame it on the 3 oz airplane rule - that damn airplane rule)!!! After looking at the store's website, I decided to pay this shop a visit, and I am glad I did. What's good about this shop: - LARGE variety of fish; salt and fresh - Plenty of supplies; you can easily get any missing aquarium parts here for major brands like Marineland - The staff are knowledgeable and helpful in answering any questions you may have regarding breeds of fish, pH levels, etc Why I took off one star: - SOME of their things can be a tad pricey compared to online prices. Example: a decorative aquarium castle here is $26, the same castle sells online for $8. However, not everything is that pricey, depending on what you're looking for. Just be smart about it and buy online where it makes sense. (p/s: no, i'm not the type of person who would buy a castle for their aquarium, just pointing out price point differences)! All in all, solid place for your aquarium purchases. If you're looking for aquarium supplies, you're missing out if you don't pay this place a visit. read more

Love this place! I've only been twice for live food but in both instances it was an absolute pleasure. The staff is helpful, the place is clean and the fishes are beautiful. It's a huge one stop shop if you have both fishes and reptiles ( they also have guinea pigs/gerbils/mice/hamsters/ferrets/birds/ reptiles). Seriously check them out. I've heard so many good things about this place and their selection is awesome. However, I recently bought some fish for the first time here and the experience has been quite disappointing. I have a 55 gallon tank that I've been planning out for a few weeks now and the time finally came to get the first few fish. I knew exactly what I wanted and went to find someone for help as soon as I walked in. The guy I talked to couldn't have been more unenthusiastic about being there, and when I politely asked if I could have 6 head and tail light tetras, I was greeted with a curt grunt and he begrudgingly got my fish together. I wasn't even being picky about which ones; I simply asked for 6. So I get home, acclimate them (over an hour of adding bit by bit of tank water to their bag) and leave them overnight as they get used to their new home. I did notice the water they were in in the bag smelled kind of bad, like ammonia. Two died by morning. They had small bloody spots near their gills when I pulled them out. My tank water was perfect, I tested for ammonia (0), nitrites (0), nitrates (1.5), no chlorine or chloramines and nothing was at any unacceptable level. By the third day of having my 4 remaining ones, 1 has now developed a fungal infection. These are the first fish to be introduced to a brand new (fully cycled) tank, so I know they didn't pick up anything that was in the tank. I'm now treating these poor remaining four for a fungal infection and probable ammonia poisoning (based on the bloody gills of the two that died and how stressed they all seem to be) and I really hope they pull through. If I wanted to buy sick fish, I would have gone to any of the chain pet stores around here and would have paid less to boot. This and the rudeness of the employee I encountered have really turned me off from this place. It's really too bad. read more

Today I entered this store to purchase a couple mystery snails. I was told that I would not be provided service as I can not wear a mask. I have cancer, and I am currently going through a treatment that causes my oxygen levels to be depleted easily, and my immune system is very weak. I am unable to wear a face-covering as it obtructs my oxygen levels to a dangerous level, and collects various bacteria and viruses on the cloth itself. I have had zero problems with dozens of businesses this past year as our Ohio mandate literally says people with medical issues can be exempt from the mask completely. I told the store owner and various workers that I could not wear a mask and I was exempt from the mandate due to my medical condition. I was told that the store owner *himself* set up a policy to enforce all customers to wear a mask, regardless of their health or for some people, their religious inability to wear masks. I told him this was discrimination against citizens who can not wear masks and thus why the mandate lists this exemption. He told me I was trespassing and I had to leave. I refused to leave until a law enforcement officer came and asked me to leave. The officer said that the owner could discriminate and ask me to leave and that in response I can pursue him in court for discrimination. But that if I was asked to leave the property he had to ask me to leave. I was incredibly polite the entire time and was only cut off by every single worker and the owner. I was simply trying to buy my 1-year-old daughter some snails, as her first pet. I am so thankful that I stood up for myself and I happily took my business elsewhere. I highly recommend going to franchised pet stores that have cared for ALL of their customers and do not discriminate based on health or religion. I support businessnes that follow the laws and mandates, instead of making up their own rules for specific customers. I'm honestly glad I didn't support this business, who CHOSE to single me out and segregate me for my health. The officer stated they could have served me without getting in trouble with the mandate, as I have a medical exemption. They asked me to provide proof of my exemption, which I did not have and the mandate does not list the need to provide any proof, but if I did happen to have proof I would still be refused service. This business is clearly not informed on how the mandate is written, or how to treat people equally. I have not gotten sick even with a corrupt immune system this whole year, I am not worried about getting sick by living a regular life. I am worried about getting sick with any disease by wearing a petri dish of bacteria and viruses on my mouth and nose, and I am afraid of having my oxygen obstructed by a device that has been proven to do so. This is why my physician has provided me with a medical exemption. I have the entire event on record and will be suing this business for segregation and discrimination. This disease has a 99+% survival rate. The death rates for 2020 were literally no higher than the rates in 2018 and 2019. The 3M wesbite itself says SURGICAL masks can't protect against SARS-CoV-2, let alone cloth masks. There has been multiple studies show that masks are making people sicker, most commonly bacterial pneumonia. If I got bacterial pneumonia, I could easily die. Not wearing a mask for SARS-CoV-2 is not something that we should be discrimminating cancer survivors for. My large family has supported this buisness for years, and will no longer be doing so. read more

I've been buying fish here for awhile and they sold me 2 sick fish that died at the same time and they wouldn't give me any refund after their 2 days policy. I will not be shopping here anymore! When they take the fishes out of the tanks into bags the manhandle the fish and use there dirty hand to take out of the net! I would not recommend shopping here! read more

This business has been in the Cleveland area for over 30 years for your saltwater and freshwater aquarium needs (with the random puppy and small furries thrown in for sale). The store is triple in size compared to most of your average run of the mill local fish dealers. You really cannot beat the prices for aquarium needs such as filters, media, food, nutrients. Sadly though, we were disappointed to find a bare bones saltwater stock and an even " bare bones" knowledge of the staff assisting us on our visit on 01/04/2015. We purchased a tomato clownfish and inquired on their recommendation to acclimate the fish. The staff member said "eh, just throw him in the tank". After speaking with several fish dealers we learned that not only is this method frowned upon, but can cause undue stress on the fish (we didn't follow the blasé instructions we were given). One would think that a store priding itself for being in the Cleveland area as reputable and long lasting would ensure their staff is properly educated. The aquariums that house the fish are in need of a good scrubbing, and overgrown with algae. RMS, do you even take pride in the appearance of your tanks? Clean up! We will probably never purchase fish here again, which is too bad- I really wanted to walk away impressed! read more
