Used to frequent this restaurant on a regular basis. Plenty of seating in the bar and great place to enjoy a margarita. Raymundo was our server/bartender. He was outstanding. Couple next to us said he was their favorite. I was craving their fish tacos. What I got and what I remembered from the past did not meet expectations. I remembered blackened tilapia served on the plate with the wraps left in foil. It also came with a hot sauce, which was missing. The fish is now put on the wraps and lightly seasoned if at all. The presentation was unappealing and the food unfortunately was bland. I will go back as this was my first not great experience. The margarita was great as was the service. read more

We flew in back home, Indiana, for a funeral Thursday night. When we lived here this was my favorite Mexican restaurant. You just can't get Arroz con pollo anything near this in AZ. I have been thinking about this place since the last time we were home, 3 years ago. We got there at 9:03 dues to the 3 hour time change. We were seated right away. We were looking forward to some cocktails, but there was a sign that said no alcohol available. Okay fine. I came for the food. No alcohol, okay fine. We will just get iced tea. No iced tea available. Weird, but fine. Water it is. We ordered a large cheese dip. Just as good as I remember. Then we split my favorite dish, arroz con pollo. It comes with 3 tortillas. The server was nice enough to bring 2 sets of tor. I also got a side of sour cream. I didn't remember it does come with beans. It was so good! Just like I remember! The chicken was tender & seasoned! Man I wish I could get this in AZ! The rice was good. The cheese sauce was perfect! I'm still thinking about good the food was! If I could I would eat every meal here until we have to go back to AZ. My husband and I visited Riviera Maya for the second time tonight. On Wednesdays, they offer a special on flavored margaritas--$5.99 for one! You really can't beat that. I ordered the Quesadilla Matzanlan, which was a huge portion and absolutely delicious! You can choose between chicken or steak for the quesadilla. My husband had the taco salad, which was also a special tonight. The only reason I'm giving it a 4/5 is because of the service. While we were attended to, we were left sitting with empty plates and drinks for quite a while, even though there weren't many other patrons. Our server giggled a bit too much and the way he smiled at us was a bit creepy, to each their own I guess. He then proceeded to laugh at my husband for not drinking tonight. Though my husband wasn't bothered, I feel that could have come off as rude or insensitive. It's important to be mindful of these things in the world we live in. It's shocking I've never reviewed this restaurant, and it's probably one of the two or three places I eat the most frequently. I've had many of the things on the menu, from enchiladas to tostadas to fajitas to carnitas. This is good, fairly authentic Mexican food. In terms of how good the food tastes, Riviera Maya probably has the most consistent menu in the area. Their fajitas are amazing. They're a step above anyone else's. I love the carnitas with flour tortillas. The fish tacos are wonderful and come with a spicy tomatillo sauce that gives them a nice kick. Service can be a little spotty, but not anything I'd hold against the restaurant. It's been a while since I've had actual bad service there. Just a little forgetful in terms of coming back after food is dropped off. The table salsa is the best around. The vibe is festive. The owners are really nice. Prices are good. And it does pretty good business. So I hope it sticks around for a long, long time. read more

Just off of 96th & I69, we went last Saturday, a little early (5:30pm) , before hitting a 7pm movie. We got seated quickly, had an attentive server, ordered, and got served quickly. There were 5 adults and one thing that was nice was our server brought 3 baskets of chips & 3 salsa bowls so that we didn't have to reach across each other. The hubs had chicken fajitas and I ordered a la carte a poblano and a shredded chicken burrito. The food was tasty and plentiful. ATTENTION LADIES!!!! Pay attention to your surroundings at Riviera Maya off of Crosspoint Blvd!!!! I went to this restaurant with my parents this evening. Although the food was good, our waiter was video taping me using his phone during my meal. His phone was resting on a nearby post/table pointing directly at me (no one else in the shot) while he was in the kitchen or doing whatever. My dad got up to take a look, hoping the camera was flipped the opposite direction but, it was truly taping me. I was and am SO UNCOMFORTABLE. I've driven past this place like 1000 times, and finally made the visit. The interior is awesome. It's a well designed place. I went with the burrito. It is stuffed with chicken, steak and shrimp and then smothered in queso. I devoured it. The seasonings of the meat were excellent. Service is SUPER fast. I think we were in and out in under 30 min. I appreciate a good ol' arroz con pollo and I like that Riviera Maya has multiple different variations on the menu--arroz con pollo, arroz con carne, Victoria's special (arroz con pollo & chorizo), etc. I got the Victoria's special and it was good, but wish I would've stuck with basic arroz con pollo. I love chorizo but it has such a strong flavor that I felt it overpowered the rest of the dish. I'm giving 3 stars though because I asked for a side of jalapeños and sour cream not realizing it was $2.25 for a side of sour cream and also $2.25 for a side of pico de gallo. I think that's a very high price for those items... and... I didn't get pico, I got jalapeños. Oh well, didn't really catch it till after the fact. Not a big deal. We have been going to Riviera Maya for years; however, tonight was the worst experience we've ever had. After a long day, we wanted tacos and beer, but we walk in to find a sign that says no alcohol available. Really!?! Okay, so we stay because their food is usually good. The meal was fine. We got our usual ... fajitas and the quesadilla rellena. The server never brought more chips or offered drink refills. It was a Saturday evening and the restaurant was pretty empty. Service is always nice each time we go there. Usually it's because we stay in the hotel, conveniently right next door. But the margs are good and big, they only have bottled beer which is a negative for my non marg drinking hubs. But the food each time we visit is good, whether it's deep into a packed lunch rush, or late at night when we finally make it to the hotel post baseball games and are starving. Been going here since a kid. It's really gone downhill in the past year, this location in particular. Lost their liquor license, terrible health inspections almost failing in some cases. Now it's an A. The food remains the same every time I've had this year, just mediocre. Queso is never hot. I go for the arroz con pollo and it's always just grease and this time had small bones in it. The prices have increased or seemed higher than usual, 15 for a plate of pre cut GFS Chicken and rice? The hot food came in large plastic food pan carriers, which was a nice touch and unexpected! The carriers kept that food hot for hours. Visiting aIndy for the holiday weekend and my family love this Mexican restaurant. So we gave it a try. We started with a pitcher of margaritas and one Michelada. Our server is José. My husband had the taquito plate with rice and beans. My sister had Chicken fajita plate with rice and beans. My daughter had a tilapia fish taco plate that she said the fish was very dry! I had enchiladas Cancun, which I was kinda disappointed because I only had 2 shrimp. One in each corn tortilla :-( but the seasoning and flavors were good.. All of the dishes were pretty good seasoned and fresh. Except for the fish tacos my daughter had. She said the fish was dried out and was bland. Jose came to the rescue and, suggested if she wanted to try another item on the menu and she ordered a chimichanga and it was good! Overall the restaurant is clean, (1 star), fast service (2 stars), Friendly / knowledgeable staff (3 stars) and, freshness of of served (4 stars). And I gave four stars because the manager did come by to check on us to see how our dining experience was. I guess I'm California spoiled! Still in search of that Cali Mexican food flavor. read more
