    RiverWalk, Detroit
    Bruce K.

Detroit's Riverwalk in summer is a vibrant mix of city energy and waterfront calm. I started at the Renaissance Center, where the towers shimmer over the river, and wandered east to Cullen Plaza. Along the way, I passed murals, sculptures, Little Free Libraries, and plenty of benches--each inviting a pause. The path buzzed with life, yet still offered quiet moments beside the water. At Cullen Plaza, I gave in to laziness and grabbed a Lime scooter. Gliding along the wide, welcoming path, I passed buskers playing jazz and folk, their tunes drifting through the warm air. The Riverwalk's layout makes it easy to navigate, with clear signs and a friendly, open feel--like Detroit showing off its best side. I wrapped up at the Milliken State Park Lighthouse, a proud little beacon with Windsor's skyline just across the water. Jetskis circling on the Detroit River, families picnicked, and the sun above the RenCen was pure gold. Whether you stroll, scoot, or simply sit and soak it in, the Riverwalk delivers a soulful slice of Detroit summer. [Review 1003 of 2025 - 478 in Michigan - 24557 overall]

The riverwalk is so nice and even though we were there in April, we got to see a cruise ship parked at the harbor and we also got to see a tugboat going by pushing a big load of construction equipment so that was entertaining. Just so you know you don't normally see a cruise ship in the Detroit river, so that was rare. I was kind of surprised that Hart Plaza looked pretty messy so I really thought they need to clean it up a bit, but the rest of the Riverwalk was just fine and we walked down as far as the lighthouse and then came back

Detroit's River Walk Park runs for 3 miles along the Detroit River from Hart Plaza east to Mt. Elliott St. We passed parks, an outdoor theater, fishing spots & river boats. There were many outdoors biking, walking, and just enjoying the beautiful day here. Emergency phones were available.

The Riverwalk is a great spot to enjoy the riverfront, and you can walk quite a distance now that the new segment is opened. It is a great spot for kids, as there are playgrounds and water features along the way. Small improvements that would make it better would be bike lanes for the bike riders, you really need to listen for them behind you if you are walking. The other thing it is missing are some businesses on the river for food and drinks. You have to leave the Riverwalk for the most part to grab a snack or drink. There are some spots where you can picnic and grill however, which is cool. Overall, this is a great place to enjoy a fine day, or bring the kiddos to play!

The Riverwalk is a must if you're visiting Detroit! We came during a heatwave so we couldn't enjoy it fully, but the little that we did see we loved! There are boat rides that leave from here every two hours and beautiful views of Canada! Parking was easy too!

The Riverwalk was on my list and it's abutted by the Robert C. Valade Park. While we were in town, I opted to catch the Day of the Dead festival happening in the park along the Riverwalk. Dia De Los Muertos 2024 Review: A beautiful Saturday along the waterfront. Limited parking available, with a paid lot just a short walk away. There was an Ofrenda set up to pay homage to those who have passed. There were a few vendors selling crafts (think day of the dead headbands, ponchos, etc...) There was an arts and crafts table for the little and someone giving away pieces of bread. The dancers rolled out in traditional Mexican dress and danced away! If the kids lose interest, no fear- there's a playground right there! Also, so is Canada... in the distance. A nice way to experience the riverwalk in Detroit. Canada is right there! Pro tip: there is a brewery at the end of the block! (Atwater)

Voted best Riverwalk in America. It is a good place to enjoy some sun. Detroit River front Conservancy does a good job to continuously expanding the trail from old Joe Louis Arena to Robert Valade Park. I think it is going to expand even more to Belle Isle bridge in the future. Summer you will see a lot of people and no where to park. Some section can be pretty trashy because trash bin overfill or people just leave trash everywhere Winter is probably the best time if you want some alone time. Plenty of parking and plenty of space to take pictures

I didn't realize how extensive the Detroit Riverwalk is -- from Gabriel Richard Park to Ralph C. Wilson Centennial Park. Wow! That's 1 hour and 40 minutes worth of walking but, I didn't walk it. I just realized there was another side to the Detroit Riverwalk that I have never experienced until today. This Riverwalk is vibrant, beautiful, and well kept from what I have seen. Across the river you can see Windsor, Canada.

The Detroit River Front Conservancy continues to develop the Detroit River Front into a recreational pathway Detroit citizens and surrounding communities can be proud of. The Belle Isle stretch recently opened and the William Davidson section is under construction. Pros: Great place to walk and bike anytime of the year Cons: Poor signage in some areas, lost pathway near the Coast guard building and near the Belle Isle Bridge

Not sure if this was complete or not when we got here. But it's a gorgeous view of the water that apparently stretches across the Joe Louis Area to Milliken State Park right along the Detroit River. Perfect to get your walk/jog in or walk dogs. Saw a lot of families and couples strolling along here. As you know, I love a great view of water/nature and this satisfies that in spades. Well done Detroit!

The Riverwalk was a great experience for our entire group. There's free parking and the area is well-kept. We also noticed security/police presence and felt safe the entire time. The water is beautiful! We were able to get a great view of Canada and we saw several ducks up close and personal. It was a hot day but there was a nice, cool breeze. This is definitely a great location for walking or bike riding. There's an area to purchase snacks and tables/chairs for eating or just relaxing. The public restrooms were surprisingly clean also. This is definitely a must see place.

But the view from Detroit river is so amazing that we didn't realize that we already spent around an hour there.

They were resurfaced about 3 years ago and still look brand new. But, that is because they are completely unplayable. Whoever resurfaced those courts left air pockets that substantially effect play on all four courts. If you are a 3.0 player or above I would recommend finding another place to play. The problem for us GP Park residents is that they converted the Patterson Park courts to Pickleball courts leaving us without a playable tennis court in all of GPP. It is crying shame that those managing a park system like ours cannot find a solution to this problem.

I still remember as a kid swimming around the adult pool when it wasn't adult time and watching this bigger guy we all lovingly called Boblo boat swim around the perimeter of the pool by using his hands as wheel to pedal around the pool and do his laps. It was also the first time I saw the fool horror of the red Speedo from the slicked backer tall guy that would walk around proudly by the pool, only taking a dip to cool off some. This is where I took my tennis lessons as a kid. This is where I learned to fish over by the harbor piers. They have improved the community center and it's now a nice Tompkin's center and a great communal spot to watch movies. It's great for renting for parties and gatherings. I don't live in GPP any more but I have many friends that still do and thus I still am able to visit this wonderful park that holds so many fond childhood memories for me.
