Dont sleep on this place! Stop and get some delicious lumpia next time you're over on this side of town.

As parents of a large family, my wife and I run zone defense on our kids' numerous activities. This…read morealso means we jump at opportunities to save on travel expenses. Enter "fuel points" from a corporate agreement between Harris Teeter with BP. *cue the comferti* It's simple. Shop at Harris Teeter and earn points based on your grocery bill totals. Then, redeem said points at any BP gas station or HT gas station (harder to find in Hampton Roads). Today, after dropping my kids off at school, heading to work and working a long day, I returned to a car literally running on fumes. I chose this BP because it improved my odds of NOT pushing my ride, and it's proximity to a post office (no jokes about going postal)! The entry points are a little weird but that's mainly due to the intersection's traffic flow/road layout. Adequate gas pricing signage was helpful in confirming I was at the right place AND I'd be getting a deal on 16 gallons of unleaded gas. Paid at the pump using my credit card, but only after I redeemed my fuel points. To do that, you'll need to first press "cancel" on the gas pump keypad and proceed to enter your eVIC phone number. "Would you like to redeem $0.30/gallon?" Um, yes please. Grand total: $26.83 for 15.791 gallons (that's $1.69 per unleaded gallon of gas). While pumping, I noticed the car wash building appeared closed down; moreover, the entire lot appeared to also have been unkept, littered with debris and trash. Once finished, the receipt didn't print put. Don't you hate it when it asks "receipt?" And you press "yes" (multiple times) but the only thing you get is disappointment. (Enough first world problem rambling). The cashier/attendant in the glass square portion printed one for me upon request. I did have to wait 3-5 minutes for others buying cigarettes; it was a tad cold outside but I didn't mind the slight delay. I mean, I did save some $ after all!

While driving through the area I stopped in here to use the ATM and restroom. Wawa's have the best…read moreATMs as they're free of fees. Also, the restroom here was actually somewhat clean, so that was nice. The parking lot was busy, as was the inside. Just the typical Wawa.

I haven't been to this particular Wawa in years, especially since the shooting that took place here. There is a sign courtesy of the Norfolk police department posted that actually reminds you to lock your car up. I gave this store a second chance and what a mistake it was! I need to pee and the bathroom is just disgusting. Pretty sure there's a homeless woman in there getting high. I'm grabbing for toilet seat covers and engaging my quads in a deep squat to avoid actually sitting on the toilet. Great mini workout! I'm done quickly and now I'm thirsty. Since I use the app, I get lots of little rewards. I'm shopping around town and I noticed I had a free soda on the app. So I go into the store and there's not one single cup in sight. I go to the register and smile at the cashier. I greet her and ask where the cups are. This miserable person glared at me and grumbled that she had to ring me up, etc. She literally grabbed my phone right out of my hand to scan the app because it was apparently too much work for her to get out of her chair and extend her arm to scan my phone. How rude! So much for minimal contact! I finally get my soda three pours later because the worn down soda machine apparently needs servicing or the carbonation needs to be replaced. This store is dirty and nasty. Never again!

My trip to take my son to the airport was a bit stressful. My Daddy always taught me to fill up…read morewhen you got to a quarter of a tank. I've used that strategy my entire life, even into my Senior Citizen years. When we began the very short drive to the airport my car indicated I had 46 miles till empty. This wasn't optimal. But it was plenty for the airport trip & getting gas on a day with better weather. Much to my dismay it quickly dropped into the 20's. Having worked for Texaco (now Chevron) for a number years after graduating from undergraduate school, I was certain the 20'ish reading was correct & could go down further. One of my department rotations at Texaco was the State Gasoline Tax Department, each of which charged taxes in a different method. One of my states was calculated by the change in the main tanks in relation to the amount that had come into the state via the pipeline. Temperature variations played a complicated calculation because of the contraction & expansion caused by temperature. My son had enough time for us to make a detour to Military Highway for a fill up, I knew the price would probably be high because of the proximity to the airport & the rental car locations. Not so!! The Shell not only had a convenient location but a great price. The cost per gallon was much lower than other stations. And I was safely able to get home in bad weather. Shell, you have made me a believer. I'll return when in the Military Highway area.
