It was clean and we had our own space. No complaints. They had a little restaurant across the street, a perfect little stroll for dinner.

Forks Sol Duc Campground - My simple set-up. I am a motorcycle camper.

    Forks Sol Duc Campground

This inexpensive no-frills campground has all the basics, and nothing more: tent and RV sites with…read morepicnic tables and fire pits, three porta potties that appeared to be well maintained, one dumpster, a really basic playground, and a station set-up with two tanks of potable water for the campers to use. A few things you should know: 1) Google Maps is not able to route you to the campground entrance. Use the coordinates provided in your email receipt. The driveway is easy to miss. 2) Keep the campground number handy. I got to what I thought was the camp and was unable to figure out how to check in. So I ended up calling the owner via the phone numbers listed on the small Forks Sol Duc Campground sign by where I had entered. Mitch then directed me to my spot over the phone, and I was able to set up camp. 3) There were no instructions on how to operate the two tanks full of potable water available to the residents. It would be more helpful if there was a sign on how to operate the water pumps. And by the time I had figured it out, the white tank was already out of water. I had lost patience with trying to figure out how to operate the blue tank. I texted the owner via the number he provided, and at least he was very responsive. Or they can at least include the water access instructions in the email receipt. 4) I don't think they have people cleaning up between campers. So you may end up dealing with the leave-behinds from the previous occupants. The previous campers left me alcohol and a small amount of lighter fluid that I never ended up using. 5) The camp sites are all very diverse, with some being more secluded than others. But most are pretty open. FYI you get a discount if you let them pick your site for you. I think that's it. If you are looking for an affordable, no-frills camping spot that will allow you to explore the rainforests and mountains of the western Olympic Peninsula, then this might be the place for you.

I want to affirm the other 1 star reviewer, Kimberely S., in expressing disappointment in the…read moreattitude of the ownership at this otherwise beautiful property. The geographical location is excellent. HOWEVER, travelers might want to know: 1. Apparently their strategy is to list their property on 3rd party booking platforms (AirBnb, Travelocity, VrBO) in order to fill their vacancies. However, they take no responsibility for how their property appears to customers on these platforms. The owner Rachel told me she had "zero control" over her own business, in spite of paying these platforms for their services. When I sent her screenshots of what I had experienced through Travelocity, she dismissively replied she "had done all she could to help me". 2. Travelers should also know that GPS leads you astray. I drove into the Beachcombers area by mistake and was met with some clearly annoyed, but ultimately kind neighbors who got me going the right way. There is some signage, but it still felt very unclear and confusing for me and I'm on the road quite a bit. (Especially when Google Maps is not telling you to turn). Evidently they do send out an email with instructions when you book, but when you aren't aware of this and book through Travelocity, the email got lost in my junk email filter. 3. There is no cell phone signal at the site, and no check in procedure other than to call/text Tim or Rachel. This is obviously difficult if you don't have any reception. 4. The hosts manage the property remotely, despite what they pretend. I know this from my own lack of in-person interaction with them, and while spending time at my site I was approached by a couple who had been driving all over the grounds trying to find help. They said they had repeatedly attempted and failed at getting in touch with whomever was running the property. They asked me if I knew how they could get in contact. (Sadly, I had to tell them the truth). 5. Expect to be 100% on your own for orienting yourself, aside from a passive-aggressive sign they inconspicuously post on the side door of an unofficial looking house. (See pic) 6. They list amenities (like showers) that that do not provide, and make no attempt to hide they never, in fact, intended to do so. 7. Because I booked with Travelocity, I inadvertently booked the ADA site. The listing had no mention of this, and which I had no way of knowing until I arrived. Based on my experience, I am convinced this is intentional on their part, so they can book it, but claim no accountability when you're forced to illegally park in the handicapped spot. 8. Site 5 (the ADA site) is the only site that has a port-a-potty, which you will smell for the entire duration of your stay. As other reviewers have said, the geography and physical location itself is stunning. Were it not for the hostile, and condescending vibe created by Tim and Rachel, I would whole-heartedly recommend staying here. There are ways to approach running a business in the hospitality industry. Empathy, common courtesy, clear and courteous communication. Unfortunately the current owners have instead elected to treat their customers as if giving them less than the bare minimum is something their customers should be grateful for getting. P.S. If you see a retaliatory response from the owners, go also read what happened to Kimberely S, and how they handled it. It should tell you all you need to know.

The addition of a small basketball court, a swing, and the Margaret J to explore added to the enjoyment. You can walk along local trails right from the campground, and you can walk over to the Visitor Center, museum, and lodge. The sites are spacious, with picnic tables and fire rings. The bathrooms were large and clean and included showers. The location of your site is important here. Some are along the lake shore, while others are right along the roads in camp. We had a "walk in" campsite, which was a decent walk away from the main part of camp. It also intersected with another trail, so sometimes random people were walking around lost. Stay here if you can get a waterfront site and choose carefully!

I have camped at Falls Creek Campground twice in the last two years. My family (two adults and one…read morechild) had site 15 both times and camped with a tent. The campground is on the lake, and several of the sites are right next to the water. Several of the sites are next to the creek. The campground is clean and well kept. After staying one night at site 15 which I was able to reserve online, we decided to stay a few extra nights by claiming one of the walk in sites. There are 10 walk in sites located across the creek from the main campground. We stayed at site 30, which was near the end of the trail close to the lake. It's not possible to reserve the walk in sites online ahead of time. They are first come first serve and must be registered by going to the front desk at the lodge which is a short walk from the campground. You can reserve these sites on the day you arrive only. You can reserve them for multiple days in a row once you arrive. In the busy summer months, the walk in sites may be hard to get since so many people want them. The front desk people advised me to arrive in the morning if I wanted to get one because they go fast. There is a small parking area for the walk in sites, which may not have enough spaces for all the cars belonging to the walk in campers so once you get a spot you may not want to leave it. There was no camp host on site this year. There was a sign indicating that the camp host was at Willaby Campground (a short drive down the road). I brought my own firewood with me, but there were signs that firewood and ice were available for purchase (either at Willaby, the lodge, or the Mercantile... I can't remember where it was). If there was an issue, I can see how it may have been a problem having no camp host on site, but luckily there were no issues for us. Overall, I think it's a great place for camping and I will return. The lake is great for swimming. The Lake Quinault Lodge is a few minutes walk on a path along the lake, where there is a raft for jumping off, boat rentals (kayaks, canoes, rowboats), plastic adriondack chairs, and ice cream treats for sale. Inside the lodge there is a gift shop and restaurant. There are no showers at the campground, but if you go to the lodge, you can get access to the showers at their indoor pool for a fee. There is a great store across the street from the lodge called the Quinault Mercantile that has all aorts of supplies, groceries, and food made order including stuff like sandwiches, burgers, and pizza (slow but really good). There are also a lot of hiking trails in the area. We went on a short hike on the Loop trail which was a nice walk through the rain forest. Also worth doing in the area: Go see the World's Largest Spruce Tree. Take the loop drive around the lake. Drive about 30 mins to get to the ocean.

I especially loved all the windows that let in tons of natural light, and the porch out front was such a nice touch. The staff at the office were incredibly friendly and welcoming.
