We met him before dawn around 3am and followed him to the spot where we loaded ourselves into the raft in pitch black darkness (this is an ultimate trust factor here mind you) into the river before the sun came up. Shane oared us himself through the river minus the areas with rapids where we just floated through and took us along all the special spots. Bait and fishing lines are all prepared by Shane ahead of time which made the process effortless and carefree. I caught a small Chinook this day with a spinner at the very end of our trip. Trip ended around noon. We went home with our heart cups filled with adventure. Definitely WORTH IT! Will post up some pics later.

If you are looking for a fishing guide for steelhead in the rivers around Forks, WA, we highly recommend Lost Forest Fishing. Personally, I had not fished at all in several years and initially booked the trip just for my husband, who is an avid fly fisherman. I went along for the boat ride the first day just to enjoy the scenery and Mike encouraged me to give the fishing a try the next day. By the end of the week, Mike had taught me the basics of a single spey cast AND I brought my first ever wild steelhead to net while nymphing from the boat. My husband, the experienced fisherman, also had a very successful four days fishing and greatly appreciated Mike's instruction and knowledge of the rivers. We definitely plan to make a return trip to Forks next winter and look forward to more fishing with Lost Forest Fishing. Mike also guides in the Jackson Hole area during the summer season and we hope to make a trip down there sometime this year or next to fish with Mike.

You're only about a 15 minute drive to La Push beaches and about 45 min to the Hoh Rainforest. We were fortunate enough to be able to rent the River House over Memorial Day due to a last minute cancellation (book early, it can be booked out several weeks in advance). The house has plenty of space indoors, with all the amenities and rustic cabin decor. The Bogachiel runs a stone's throw from the spacious outdoor deck. We'll loved our stay and will definitely be back.

Larry is an excellent teaching, patient, corrects mistakes so you don't learn it improperly and passionate about fly fishing. I'm shocked at how many skills go into this. This inexpensive no-frills campground has all the basics, and nothing more: tent and RV sites with…read morepicnic tables and fire pits, three porta potties that appeared to be well maintained, one dumpster, a really basic playground, and a station set-up with two tanks of potable water for the campers to use. A few things you should know: 1) Google Maps is not able to route you to the campground entrance. Use the coordinates provided in your email receipt. The driveway is easy to miss. 2) Keep the campground number handy. I got to what I thought was the camp and was unable to figure out how to check in. So I ended up calling the owner via the phone numbers listed on the small Forks Sol Duc Campground sign by where I had entered. Mitch then directed me to my spot over the phone, and I was able to set up camp. 3) There were no instructions on how to operate the two tanks full of potable water available to the residents. It would be more helpful if there was a sign on how to operate the water pumps. And by the time I had figured it out, the white tank was already out of water. I had lost patience with trying to figure out how to operate the blue tank. I texted the owner via the number he provided, and at least he was very responsive. Or they can at least include the water access instructions in the email receipt. 4) I don't think they have people cleaning up between campers. So you may end up dealing with the leave-behinds from the previous occupants. The previous campers left me alcohol and a small amount of lighter fluid that I never ended up using. 5) The camp sites are all very diverse, with some being more secluded than others. But most are pretty open. FYI you get a discount if you let them pick your site for you. I think that's it. If you are looking for an affordable, no-frills camping spot that will allow you to explore the rainforests and mountains of the western Olympic Peninsula, then this might be the place for you.

We stayed at the campground here as we made our way through the Olympic NP. This was a great place…read moreto stay! It's not too large and was relatively quiet, although some sites are kind of close to the main road and might get some traffic noise. The sites are located in a beautiful forest with large trees, moss and mushrooms, and a river adjacent. They all have a picnic table and a fire pit, although we were there during a fire ban. There are nice clean bathrooms with shower stalls. I really loved that this campground had some small trails through and near it, and I loved walking down to the river at the end of the day. It was really beautiful! The whole campground is gorgeous and we had a great time.

As always it was an awesome…read moretrip with multiple hookups with beautiful bright coho salmon and an expertly guided trip down the Sol Duc river which is very exciting and requires expert rowing. We have fished several of the coastal rivers over the years as well as Lewis, Cowlitz, and Columbia rivers. Bob and Tracy run a great operation and he has to be the hardest working guide out there. I love that he is willing to help other anglers too. He is very unselfish with gear and advice. If you get a chance to fish with Bob, Bill, or Ryan you are in for some of the best fishing anywhere in the world. Should you decide to book a trip stay at the Miller Tree Inn (aka Cullen House) where you will get an awesome breakfast to start your trip and great accommodations.
