Riverside National Cemetery is a peaceful and restful placed for loved ones. Was here for the second time this year, with a recent visit to pay respect to a loved community member who passed away from cancer. The service was very moving, with a three-volley salute, which is a military honor for those who served. There was also a covered space so guests did not have to stand under the sun. This is a very big cemetery, but once you drive up to the entrance kiosk, you can ask to find a burial space. The grounds are very open and small roads in between to drive through. Parking can be very limited during national holidays and large funeral events. There was almost no parking during Memorial Day when visited earlier this year. And you can't really park outside the cemetery because it's just a large road, with multi-lane traffic. So for non-event days, parking will be easy, but for major events, this is a very busy place. read more

The grounds at this cemetery are beautiful and well maintained. It has a very peaceful atmosphere and is a serene place to visit. The only complaint I have is the cleanliness and proper upkeep of the women's restroom. The last several times I have had to visit the restroom; it was dirty, and the floor was wet and slippery. Today the toilet was clogged and the toilet paper was not stocked. In the past the toilet paper has not been fully stocked, so this is an on going problem. Not sure if they do not have maintenance workers on the weekend but maybe they should. This place is too beautiful to have dirty unkept restrooms. read more

I've had a positive experience with administration at Riverside national Cemetery. I went in looking for help, realizing that there was something that wasn't accurate on my father's headstone and wanting information on my options. The employee was very nice and took the time to explain how to go about getting the ball rolling so to say. He explained that I needed to get my dad's DD 214. He gave me the addresses to go about doing that and the phone numbers. He made sure I walked out of there with a list of things that I had to do in order to get this accomplished. Beautiful cemetery! My grandfather was buried here in 2020. My grandfather served in Korea for the Navy. And now my grandmother is buried here. She was buried here yesterday, and our entire family went to see the burial service. Everyone was very respectful to our family. This is a cemetery for veterans who served our country. I'm honored that my grandfather and grandmother get to rest here together. It's a nice place. And I'm glad that they are reunited. read more

Today we are here for the Military Ceremony for my Dad, Bruce. He was an Army Corporal in Korea but is still entitled to full honors as a Veteran with a Honorable Discharge. Everything but flowers are paid for by the US Government as Part of our military agreement. Today would have been his Birthday and today is Vietnam Veterans Honor Day. He was in Korea, I was Vietnam. What I learned from our experience: Our loved one was blessed with the VA Honor detail that was present at his internment represent by the US Navy. This was a memorable experience for our family. My children and I extend our gratitude to these service personnel who provided Taps and the Honor detail, they brought dignity to a difficult family situation. Rest is Peace Steven B. Dominguez. Your two beautiful and amazing daughters and your beloved granddaughter will hold your memory dear. The Riverside National Cemetery is hallowed ground for those who served in our nations Armed Forces and their loved ones. As part of a qualifying VA program, veterans can select to be interred here. There are rules and protocols that apply. If you bring flags or flowers, expect to take them with you on your visits post internment. Parking areas to visit gravesites are limited. Wear comfortable shoes for visits and dress according to the weather, hot or cold. Overhead jets fly for training at nearby March Air Force base, so it gets loud on flybys. If attending a funeral, be early and prepare your family for the experience, you have 30 minutes on outdoor pavilions that look like picnic areas in a city park, parking is limited, emotions run high and you need to respect the timeline gifted. If your family desires another experience, I would suggest paying for a burial in a different location that you have more input into the creative process of your celebration of life. The pavilion that honors notable warriors, no parking area as well, which is awkward. No family pets allowed. If visiting a gravesite, the burial grounds are identified with small block markers. Each memorial on the upper right-hand corner has the identification number. Parking is awkward here, there are not a lot of pull-out parking areas to visit memorials or parking lots, makes it difficult to navigate and you don't want to block a pavilion driveway if you are visiting your loved one's site, nor get into their vehicle procession. The processional vehicle line is numbered, once your VA white van arrives with your loved one's physical remains, they will be on time. Preplan way in advance and include your family members in the process. Across the street from the cemetery is a hotel, gas station, coffee and food joints that are convenience businesses. Volunteers seem to work there and they interface with the public. Traveling to this cemetery has serious traffic considerations to add to travel plans. It will be helpful if the VA gets the Orange County National Cemetery going, but I wouldn't hold my breath in 2025. GBNF: I attended Medal of Honor (MoH) recipient Col. Millett's funeral years back and took time with my children to visit his grave, he is buried on the next lane to a second MoH recipient, true warfighters. read more

My dad had a beautiful and heartfelt graveside service! They were prompt, professional, accommodating, attentive.

This cemetery can be confusing however it's easy once you've been a couple of times. The grass is green all around except in the places where they're doing construction. The grave sites were clean and all debris was in the trash. My father's headstone and all that I noticed were clean. When you enter this a beautiful water exhibit and the office is the left. Here you can find where your family member is buried on a computer that will print out to simplify the process of finding your loved one. In this area is also restroom that are gender specific. As well as a couple of tables and seats just in case you want to eat. I'm looking forward to visiting for Veteran's Day to honor my father and all the veterans buried here read more

The Riverside National Cemetery is a final resting place for veterans that have served in the armed forces. I visited here after a cousin of mine passed away, he served in the navy a number of years. The staff was very helpful, empathetic and courteous, providing every need. The grounds are kept up and maintained, the facilities were very clean and directions easy to follow. Soldiers provided a gun salute at the service. The burial was well done, peaceful and serene. read more

My grandfather earned his angel wings March 30, 2023. It was the hardest thing I've ever endured. He was a proud Navy man, having served his country for over 25 years. I was relieved to know he would be later to rest in a cemetery as beautiful and respectful as Riverside National Cemetery with others who served as well. After his homegoing celebration, a horse and carriage carried his body through the cemetery. We were met by two soldiers who paid their respects to my Papa. I cried at the respect they showed to both him, and us. As they folded their flag and presented it to my grandmother, I could see the compassion and love they had for her. I've never witnessed such an honorable deed. Everything the cemetery did for us was appreciated. As for Papa's resting area, it's gorgeous. The grass is always green, it's clean, and they do an excellent job at maintaining the grounds. It's a tranquil feeling to have being there, full of peace and serenity. There is a lake too. I am thankful that we were in good care with this place, I couldn't ask for a more perfect place for a good man such as Papa to be laid to rest at. read more

Our father was laid to rest here back in April. We wanted to do a tree donation to the cemetery in his memory. Tho the grounds are beautiful and so well maintained, Our dad loved gardening and we loved the idea of doing a tree donation in his honor. From the start the lead groundskeeper Charles was helpful, responsive and informative. After 5 months of planning our beautiful tree was planted. This is the cemetery my dad is buried. It's huge and its always kept nice and clean. I really appreciate all the hard work to keep this place going and respecting our loved ones. I bring my chair and sit with dad for hours before heading back to long beach. They have lakes which is very nice and relaxing. Great staff to and looks like they are expending more in the back areas.. Today they had a christmas reefs for EVERY vet buried and i almost cried when i saw one at my dad site. My father in law was laid to rest on July, 23, 2020. RIP Everything about this memorial park is beautiful. From the entrance, to the ponds, pathways, green grass, green and tall trees and most importantly, the final resting place of the thousands of American heroes and their spouces buried in this place The service and the way it was organized by a very professional staff was memorable and truly appreciated. I cannot thank the entire staff for all their hard work, PROFESSIONALISM, dedication and assuring that such a painful day to the entire family was less painful and comforting. THANK YOU! Social distancing is strictly enforced and all attendees are reminded over and over of this strict rule. The service itself was very organized and brief (20 minutes from start to finish). Attendees are not allowed to follow the hearse to the grave site though the family is provided with a map to the exact final resting location in order to visit at a later date. Attendees are encouraged to drive safely as they leave the memorial park. This was very effective in getting attendees to leave as soon as possible as there were many other services taking place and the last thing you need is for this memorial park to be packed. I am happy that my father in law was laid to rest at this location as this was his wish . To be buried with other American war heroes just like this Vietnam Veteran was a hero to us. read more

Sad day to be here attending an interment of a friend's husband who served in the military. Of course we didn't know where the services was going to be at so as you enter the gate we were informed how to get there. I'm so amazed that a blue line on the lane will lead you to a numbered lane where cars were lined up to follow the Hearst. As we were driving I had observed the grounds are kept so neat. You could hardly see the grass level headstones and seems like a whole lot of just green grass field. My second time to attend a burial service to honor those veterans who served the country. Truly terrible. I had one question. My dad died a year ago today and we had the service and interment a month later at Riverside. I needed to know what, if any, flowers could I sent to his mausoleum - in other words, could flowers be put in a small attached vase? And where do I order them from? (The answer is no - but I had to go to other resources to figure this out, for the reasons spelled out below. I had read the exhaustive material online but that did not answer my question). You would think that would be an easy inquiry, right? But no. I dialed long distance two days ago and listened and listened to all the prerecorded junk. WHEN I hit #5 "to speak to a live funeral person" I was disconnected five times. I called back - again from the east coast - and hit "0" - didn't work. So I hit one of the five options where I might get a live person who could connect me. So I tried "scheduling " and got an incredibly unhelpful nasty woman who couldn't be bothered with my problem. When I asked "well, if you had to reach a live funeral director person where would you dial?" I received a belligerent "well, I don't have to call there". So I said the obvious "is there ANY live person you can forward me to?" And she connected me to "main scheduling" where I was on hold for 29 minutes. Shame on you! GRIEVING FAMILIES are trying to reach a live person there and can't! I will be there when you appear before Congress to defend your budget and ask for more. And I will testify as to how you currently can't even handle grieving families by answering your own phones. Fortunately, Google (honestly! I had to go there!) told me about the Riverside National Cemetery Support Committee and I called there and left a frustrated message. I received back a text explaining what they could and could not do. I was very impressed that for $25 they figured out where my dad was and were able to leave a small floral cup at the bottom of his stack of boxes. And even sent me a photo. HUGE FAIL on the cemetery's end! read more

Riverside National Cemetery is a well maintained, beautiful, respectful, sprawling cemetery where eligible US veterans and their spouses may be buried. This cemetery is huge, and it has a lot of formal memorials. One word that comes to mind whenever I visit Riverside National Cemetery is "reverence" because I get a strong feeling of deep respect for the men and women buried here. This cemetery was established in 1976, and was dedicated and opened for burials on Veteran's Day in 1978. Visually, this cemetery looks like a lush, mostly grassy, and very green park due to the use of flat, flush gravesite markers that don't get damaged by the machines that mow the grass. It has some lakes and fountains, and clean restrooms. Anyone needing assistance with gravesite location can go to the National Cemetery Administration website as a resource, go to the onsite administration office, or use a kiosk at the administration building onsite. My mom is buried here since my dad is an Army veteran. We stopped to visit her gravesite 8 weeks ago before we started our road trip back to Atlanta. In the almost 20 years since my mom died and was buried here, her marker has always been presentable and has been in the same condition that it was when it was first put into place. The cemetery has flower containers available at various locations spread throughout the cemetery that visitors can use whenever they want to leave flowers at the gravesite. In all the times I've visited my moms grave (and also the graves of an uncle and aunt of mine who are buried at Riverside National Cemetery), I've witnessed single visitors to whole families who have knelt in silence the whole time they were there, to people singing songs and playing guitars, to people sitting on portable lawn chairs celebrating and holding up their alcoholic drinks while toasting their loved ones. Since I'm a US Air Force veteran who's eligible to be buried here, I plan on being put at rest here also, but, hopefully, and God willing, it won't be any time soon. Riverside National Cemetery is an amazing week kept and beautiful place. Although they didn't do Memorial Day services in 2020 or 2021 due to the pandemic, they did allow 'Flag For Every Heal' program to resume this year. Hundreds of volunteers put American Flags on every grave site in the entire complex. The photo doesn't do it justice, but it's a breathtaking sight to see how many people who have served our country have been put to rest there. read more

They only allow 30m for the families to recognize their loved ones and it's on to the next one. Shameful experience very unorganized I confirmed on Friday with dale that my father was having full honors well that didn't happen we were taken directly to burial site my priest and bagpipe player had to do there part there the bearded ass that representss the cemetery told me that he listened to the next of kin what the hell is this hillybly country my lawyer had specifically called and talked with them months eatlier that they were not to speak with my estranged brother who was trying to ruin my parents funeral and burial. This was my first time visiting the father in law on his birthday 19OCT. The cemetery is well maintained and clean throughout the grounds. We also stopped by to see another person buried here. I like how the burial plots are all numbered so you can find a loved one easily. Unfortunately these new burial plots look all the same and don't have a unique tombstone like the old historic cemeteries. read more

He wasn't much of a dreamer; and he may not have truly understood me due to differences of generation and culture. He WAS strict, proud, controlled, and of high principle. He watched his money and he took care of the car. He did some wrong in his life, but he was a good man. And he WAS always there when others had run, picked me up when no-one else would. Near the end, he would light up during each and every minute that we had together. He lived and loved fully; albeit on his own terms. And he is my silent hero.
