My dad passed away unexpectedly last month and Colton Funeral Home was our first choice for his service since his father's service was held here 10 years ago and they provided excellent service back then and they provided excellent service this time around to. This location lacks professionalism and should be shutdown. My family member's services were ill prepared and their staff never opened or closed the services, but instead remained in their office watching movies. We were unable to communicate with first priest who arrived, as he only spoke Spanish. The staff questioned the need to hold services in English to an all English speaking audience, before they finally agreed to bring in another deacon. 90 minutes later, many of our senior family members had left, when the second person arrived at 830pm. Upon arrival, he attempted to communicate in Spanish and then broken English to quickly gather information about our loved one . He pressed the family to read and conduct the services before he finally to lead prayer (which he did quite well). He rushed through the service, asked the family to gather to quietly pray over the deceased, and while praying, he exited without closing the service! Literally slipped out the side door. The staff then told our family we needed to leave immediately and transport all of our own flowers. The gross negligence and breach of contract was astounding. I can't imagine what services look like for those who are unable to advocate for themselves, as they without shame take money from the grieving. read more

The staff is rude and heartless. Lluvia and Velida were extremely rude and had zero consideration for our family pain. Every time we called to get info they were very rude. Once you sign and pay they have you on their hands and start treating you horrible. I will not recommend this funeral home to no-one. Definitely would not recommend. Disorganized and unprofessional, they only had one young lady with blue hair and a moon tattooed in the middle of her forehead greating guests and handling everything. I'm sorry, but maybe a night club or a dispensary would be a better fit for this person, not a receptionist greating our grieving family and guests at a funeral. When my wife made the arrangements she heard a loud beeping (low battery indicator) coming from a smoke detector in the chapel. This loud beeping continued over a week later during the entire service. They couldn't swap out a battery before a funeral service? Really?! We were told that the service could be broadcast over the internet for those who were unable to attend. We asked if we could bring a recorded eulogy on a flash drive prior to the service to be sure everything worked. No, we were told that we had to bring it just as the service began and they would take care of it. Well, she was unable to get the flash drive to work with their laptop (it worked fine on mine). So everyone waited until she finally got it to work, but now we were runing late so only part of it could be played. I don't blame the young lady trying to get it to work, I blame the person or people in charge for not being there to test it prior to the service. When you are dealing with a once in a lifetime event, something as important as a loved ones funeral and celebration of life, you dont want the lasting memory of that service to be like this. Find another, more respectful, and more dignified place to hold a memorial for your loved one. This is not it. read more

I am shocked and appalled by the way Colton Funeral Home handled my Grandfather's funeral. First they lose the suit he is supposed to be buried in. My grandmother had to rush around town to find a new suit. Then mid slideshow they interrupt his grieving widow to tell her the they cannot accommodate the direction of the coffin. They when proceeded to move the coffin around all in the middle of his slideshow! Wtf? They placed it there! Furthermore when they were removing the rosary from his coffin the attendant yanked the rosary and fell smacked down in to my decreased grandfather's face. My uncle had gone out to the parking lot to get something and they only let him in because "we know how important the mass is to you people". What did she mean by "you people"? Awful tacky and unprofessional. They provided my grandfather no dignity as he left this life. read more

This is an updated review that involved dealing with Colton Funeral Home even though the final services were held at a sister branch in Ontario. This time Lluvia Flores took care of all the arrangements from beginning to end and till thia day she made me a special favor and delivered the death certificate personally! See this time it was my ex who passed away just before Christmas 2018 and even though he had his pre need arrangements we still had some coordination to do and made sure his last will be followed. In difficult times like this it really helps when you plan ahead and start with a personal plan to make sure all services are done the way you want while still alive. ( cremation, international travel, religious services, music, flowers, and even food can be chosen ahead of time. ) and believe me it helps and you lock in current prices no matter when you need them they will be honored. This company has other locations thru out LA County and in Mexico so when the situation arrives you can make changes according to where you live. During covid everyone was stressed out, But being a place of business that deals with family who just lost a loved one. They need more training on how to talk and answer the phone. The receptionist talked to me as if my loved one was a piece of luggage. They need training on ethics and compassion. My father, about 50 years ago, made, and paid for a total, funeral, and burial contract, with the Colton Funeral Home. Back then, everything was ALLOT cheaper, than what the current day prices, are now! My father died at the age of 91, on November 3, 2010, and his body was to be shipped back, and buried, in Southern Illinois! The Colton Funeral Home, honored my father's contact, made over 50 years prior, and litterly took care of everything, from start to finish! The only thing we had to pay for, was the shipping by air, back to St. Louis, Mo. The funeral home back, in Southern Illinois, drove to the airport, and took him back, for his burial. Colton Funeral Home coordinated, the whole process, with the funeral home, back East! Everything, went on schedule, with no problems! I found the whole situation, to be very "impressive, and professional", by the Colton Funeral Home. If I could give this place a negative rating, I would. I had a horrible experience at this funeral home. I was referred by the Consulate of Mexico, Laural Hernandez, because she explained that they would offer a discounted price, as they have been in collaboration for years. Laural reassured my cousin and I that they would respect the discounted price & if we happen to need extra monetary assistance to cover the expenses, we could go back to her to ask for aid. The lady that assisted us at the funeral home, Velida Alvarez, never offered us the basic package that the Mexican consulate was willing to help with. She began pulling out binders and throwing prices as ($2k for this 1k for that), and in the end, it added up to about $10K; which was overpriced. The only things we had added were some flyers, flowers, and some crucifications which didn't add up to more than $1. I was ok with that price because I figured it would cost that much due to COVID-19 complications, but I WAS WRONG. My cousin and I ended up going to the consulate to ask for assistance, and Laural said she couldn't offer us any aid because we had gone over the line by adding extra things to the services. Again, the only thing we had included was some flowers, the flyers, and the crucifiction, which did not add up to more than $1,000 at most. I went to cancel the contract that I signed with them, and the supervisor, Juiva Flores, didn't even let me pass through the door. When she asked me what I needed because they were closed, I told her I wanted to cancel the contract that I'd signed earlier with her team who had told me to come back the following day. She wondered why I was canceling, and I replied, "because you guys tried to rip me off," and she was left speechless. What bothered me the most about this place was the violation of my privacy. She took the liberty to look up my deceased father's case even after I mentioned that it was never discussed in my home. She didn't have any compassion for my brother and I after discovering that both our parents had passed away and that we didn't have the financial assistance to cover the expenses. Another thing that bothered me was that there is no separate funeral services entrance. When I went in for my appointment, there were people having a service walking in and out of the same door where the offices are located. It was very awkward, and I'm sure very disrespectful to their families. This funeral home only cares about business, and they have NO sympathy towards their customers. read more

Terrible service. The staff was extremely rude and even arrived late to the mass service. Since they were late, they had no time to explain how to handle the coffin in the mass service, and the representative was rude and insensitive to the family members who were handling the coffin. There were many misunderstanding due to the lack of communication from the funeral home. They were not helpful with any issues and made excuses that "it is not in the contract" even though THEY were the ones that failed to put it in the contract. Overall the staff was insensitive to the grieving family. Do not recommend. read more
