When I used to come up here I would be so surprised that the lake bottom was sandy and that the water was clear. What a shocker right?? This lake is the perfect size. It's small enough that as a good swimmer you can swim across it, but large enough that you can take out the ski boat and ski, pontoon boat and relax, or sail on the catamaran. Being part of the Chain of Lakes means that it's connected, through a series of rivers, to multiple other lakes so you can spend the day boating through nature areas and rivers to gain access to other local lakes. You can also boat your way over to the Dockside, park, and hang out on the porch. The other great thing about this lake is that it is located next to some really cute little towns like Bellaire and Alden. Day trips out to Traverse City (the only large city around) take about 45 minutes and Charlevoix is close as well. For a slightly longer trip away, about 2 1/2 hours, you could go to Mackinac Island which is an island filled with historic houses and no cars, only horse and buggies are allowed (in the summer at least). Finally, my favorite thing about Lake Bellaire is the fact that the majority of lake cabins are truly cabins, not monstrosities of the like that line the shores of southern lakes. You really feel like you are going back in time and that there is nothing better than a day at the lake minus tv and outside influences.

We spent the day exploring the shores of torch lake on a slow cruise but when we wanted to go back to the sand bar the boat was well able to handle much higher speeds. We rented two boats from Dewitt. One was rented for Friday which was a 12 seater pontoon. Great…read morecondition and drove very nice. The 2nd pontoon was for a Saturday and it had a water slide. Both boats were super fun but the service was great. Becky and Cheyann did an amazing job helping us. They were super friendly and very knowledgeable. They cared for us as customers and made sure our experience was great. The one negative was the boat power button that controlled the water for the slide was shot. Becky did her best to rig it up hit it failed later shortly after going out. I was able to rig it myself using her technique but eventually the button failed all together. I purchased a used boat from Dewitt Marine that I was assured was in good running condition by the…read moresales rep. When I picked the boat up, I only made it eight miles when a wheel bearing on the trailer failed. While this was not a direct reflection on the boat's condition, it was preview of coming attractions. Dewitt replaced the failed bearing at their expense but I had to pay for the other three, which their service tech said were not likely reliable. After the wheel bearings were replaced, I picked the boat up again and tried to launch it. The engine turned over but it would not start. So another two hour round trip to take the boat back to Dewitt. They had the boat for a few days and said they found moisture in the engine compartment and bilge. They said they started successfully several times without issue. After another two hour round trip to get the boat, I tried to launch it again and it would not even turn over. Dewitt's response was it sounded like a bad battery and I would be responsible for getting it diagnosed and/or replaced. I now have a boat that I have never heard/seen run and Dewitt will not stand behind their initial assurance it was in good running condition. BUYER BEWARE!

Well, they refuse to refund the deposit AND it rained like cats and dogs all day that day as well! We called a few times prior to booking wth questions, everyone was helpful and friendly. The place was easy to find and we were checked in, paid up and on the water quickly. Instructions for driving the boat and navigating the waterways were thorough. The boat was brand new, nice and clean! Better than some rentals for sure. The best part was that there was some rain in the forecast so they kept our phone number handy and contacted us when the radar started to show inclement weather. The boat's engine failed on the water, leaving us drifting into a rocky shoreline in dangerous, choppy conditions. Neighbors ran down to help, children were crying, and several people were injured. The company told us not to call the Coast Guard (others did anyway) and promised help--but instead sent two men in a truck who could only take three people, stranding the rest of us with small children and no keys or phones. When we finally got back, the owner was rude, blamed us, insisted his boats never fail, and tried to charge us the full rental plus $2,000 for damages--on the boat that had broken down. Check the Google reviews before booking--this isn't the first time this has happened. Spend your money elsewhere.
