I purchased a used boat from Dewitt Marine that I was assured was in good running condition by the sales rep. When I picked the boat up, I only made it eight miles when a wheel bearing on the trailer failed. While this was not a direct reflection on the boat's condition, it was preview of coming attractions. Dewitt replaced the failed bearing at their expense but I had to pay for the other three, which their service tech said were not likely reliable. After the wheel bearings were replaced, I picked the boat up again and tried to launch it. The engine turned over but it would not start. So another two hour round trip to take the boat back to Dewitt. They had the boat for a few days and said they found moisture in the engine compartment and bilge. They said they started successfully several times without issue. After another two hour round trip to get the boat, I tried to launch it again and it would not even turn over. Dewitt's response was it sounded like a bad battery and I would be responsible for getting it diagnosed and/or replaced. I now have a boat that I have never heard/seen run and Dewitt will not stand behind their initial assurance it was in good running condition. BUYER BEWARE! read more

We rented two boats from Dewitt. One was rented for Friday which was a 12 seater pontoon. Great condition and drove very nice. The 2nd pontoon was for a Saturday and it had a water slide. Both boats were super fun but the service was great. Becky and Cheyann did an amazing job helping us. They were super friendly and very knowledgeable. They cared for us as customers and made sure our experience was great. The one negative was the boat power button that controlled the water for the slide was shot. Becky did her best to rig it up hit it failed later shortly after going out. I was able to rig it myself using her technique but eventually the button failed all together. Boat renters, be very cautious with these frauds and their BS "insurance". We were in a situation where a wave dented the front panel of a pontoon, and these cretins had the gall to say that it was not covered under the insurance we paid for. It was embarrassing to watch their haughty owner wriggle his way through hoops to stand his ground and try to squeeze even more money out of us to cover the damages. There was nothing negligent about our use of the boat that day, and he could not find any ways to articulate what the insurance would actually cover. This place is a joke, the owner is a joke, and nobody should be supporting such a slimy operation. read more

Had a bad experience with this boat rental. The last time I rented from here I was Furious. They claimed We damaged the outboard From the waves being so big from the storm. Before we even rented to the boat we had to state where there was dents on it and we wrote that there was a small dent on the same corner. When we returned the boat they said it was not that dent it was a new one. You could not even notice the dent unless you were totally looking for it. I feel like they were taking advantage of all of us girls renting a boat for a bachelorette party. As they knew the storm was coming in and still let us leave with the boat. The workers were completely rude including the owner. It makes me sick even thinking about this day again and how they were so rude and ripped us off. I would go anywhere else before going here again and I suggest to anyone reading this to do the same. read more

Poor Customer Service- We booked a boat rental back in Feb of 2020 for June 13th. We paid in advance. We were wrongly accused of ripping a seat on the boat. We all agreed and signed paperwork stating that everything was fine. A half an hour later they called us and accused us of ripping a seat and we told them that we didn't have anything that could have ripped it. We had 6 adults on a tri-toon pontoon boat. We were a quiet group. They wrongly charged us $500 extra without our permission. I do not trust these people. I have left several messages on their phone, computer and texting. They will not call me back and work with me on this matter. read more

Purchased a new Harris pontoon from Dewitt in July 2017. It had been used as a demo by the owner. On our test ride, the salesman showed us a ripped area of upholstery and promised they would order a new part and contact us to install it when it was received. We also noticed that the depth finder wasn't working and brought that to the salesman's attention. He told us they'd repair that when the boat came back to have the new seat component installed. It is now a year later and we still don't have our seat and the depth finder still doesn't work. We took the boat in for winterization at the end of last season and then couldn't reach anyone to find out if it had been done. We finally drove there during an early ice storm and found our boat covered in ice sitting on their property. We couldn't find anyone to tell us if it had in fact been winterized [which fortunately it had as we found out later when we took it to another dealer], so we just hooked it up and hauled it to our inside storage. They keep sending me a bill for the winterization, and I keep sending it back with a notation that I'm not paying it until we get the parts and repairs we were promised when we bought the boat. Terrible service and terrible communication. Won't do business with Dewitt Marine again. As a customer of Dewitt Marine since we bought our first boat in 1988 and moored it and the next boat we bought with your marina, I'm offended that your response below refers to my account as "fictional" and you call me a liar. What you wrote is fiction and you know it. This never would have happened in the first place under the former owner, and if anything did go wrong I could be assured my problem would be resolved immediately. Your response just confirms my assertions. You never intended to fix my boat as promised. read more

Horrible experience! the staff, the two women who ran the front desk( one being the manager) , so unfriendly and unpleasant, would never recommend this marine to anyone. They sent us out in 25 mph winds being inexperienced drivers, had a 2 inch crease on the front of boat, which they charged me $500.00 for. (Which I wrote they there was already an indent right where the dent was before we left but wasn't specific enough, very crooked) Definitely would not recommend to do do business with them! read more

We did a corporate outing on multiple pontoon boats. Laura at Dewitt is personable, organized and efficient. She and her staff got 9 pontoons out seamlessly in a chaotic setting and even got us coolers with snacks, etc. pre-loaded. The boats are in beautiful condition and brand new and Dewitt is very safety conscious and got our group of pontoons out without a hitch :) I would definitely recommend renting from them! read more

We ordered a 2013 Grand Entertainer from Dewitt in February of 2013, when the boat arrived it took more than 5 weeks to have the boat prepped. They forged my name on state documents, cashed my check without an endorsment from me and have withheld repair orders from us because the boat still is not operating to specifications. I have over 100 e-mail communications and have had my boat in service for 12 of the last 13 months on problems that keep reoccuring. By the way they informed me Sept of 2013 they would no longer service the boat we spent approximately 90k for with the trailer. If anyone has experienced similar problems with Dewitt Marine I would like to hear about them. I can forward all correspondence from this poorly run business from Christine Davis and Curtis Landon. Here is my last Communication from Dewitt Marine: Greg, It is unfortunate to hear that you are still not satisfied with your boat. We have gone to great lengths to respond to your concerns and we have expended considerable efforts to remedy the problems you have identified. You have even acknowledged our efforts and have shown appreciation for what we have done. We have put our very best technicians and mechanics to work to resolve these issues and have even engaged a technician from the manufacturer to travel to our marina to assist. After making the last round of repairs you requested, your boat was tested both at our facility and then on site at Lake Margrethe. The results of our testing showed that the identified problems were resolved and that the craft was operating properly. I personally inspected your boat after the repairs were completed and it appeared clean and in good condition. We have no control over the condition of the boat or its functioning once it leaves our possession and operation. At this point we feel we have resolved all outstanding issues and have satisfied all of our obligations to you. In fact, it is our opinion that we have even gone above and beyond customary efforts to meet your expectations and desires. Despite all of this, you are apparently still not satisfied with the boat and have again asked us to resolve the issues that you still seem to be having. However, we do not think our further involvement would be productive for either party, as we feel you will not be satisfied regardless of the final outcome. Therefore, it is our recommendation that you contact another area marina that services Premier pontoon boats for future service and assistance. We will not be providing any further service. We sincerely hope that your expectations and desires will be satisfied elsewhere. We would be more than happy to cooperate in the transition of service and communicate service history and experience to whatever marina you choose. Please contact me once you have made such arrangements and we will make sure the transition is completed. Several friends and I rented a 24 ft. pontoon from 11am until 8pm on a Thursday in early August 2015. The service and boat were both exactly what we were looking for. We leisure cruised up to Short's in Bellaire, and then swam in Torch Lake. Highly recommend Dewitt Marine! read more

The boats are nice but they don't tell you until after you have agreed to rent one and gave them your cc that the gas and oil are extra. Paid $280 for 5 hours on 24' pontoon, plus $50 in gas and oil. Other rental places in the area are cheaper. read more

This place was a joke to deal with. Long story short , check your gas gauge when you leave and watch it when you return. We rented 2 boats , one 22 and one 24, went to the same places with both boats and when we returned them one boat took 30.5 gallons of gas and the other took 16. They fought with me at the pump and told me I had to talk to the manager Alexis, I called and left her messages with no return calls. I gave it 2 weeks and finally got a hold of her, lets just say she puts the B in Bit**.. Very rude, snippy and want to refund me $10. I argued with her and asked her how big the gas tank was and she said 30 gallons is our biggest one, well then how did I come in with close to a half a tank and take 30.5 ? Again she was rude and did not have a good answer. I would not rent from them ever again, renter beware. read more

We purchased a boat from this dealer and have been completely disappointed with their warranty service and after care. Although our sales man was fantastic & helpful - once we signed papers, paid for the boat & took possession - it went down hill very quickly. The boat had some issues our first summer (all covered by warranty) so we decided to store the boat with them so they could complete the warranty work anytime over the winter months. (Paid a premium to store with them to do this). We called in the spring to be sure all was complete and to schedule our pick up. We were assured it was done & ready. We come from hours away - arriving at 10pm to hitch up boat - only to discover that part of the warranty work had NOT been done. Long story short - HUGE HASSLE for us in so many ways and they could of cared less. Bad attitudes of the service staff, sending blame in all areas, rude, flat out lied to cover themselves with owner, etc. We will never buy from them again & would encourage others to look elsewhere too. I'm beyond shocked at the lack of appreciation for our business - especially on such a huge purchase. We will be taking our business to Spicers Boat City from here on out. In hind sight wish we would have dealt with them to begin with. read more

These guys are terrible on customer service when it comes to getting service on your boat. I called for an appointment and the response was, "I don't make appointments". That was it. Then I asked, how do you do it and he said, "First Come first serve", then once again silence. I then asked what time do you open and he responded, " 8 am and I am 10 days behind:. In short, they could care less about the customer. You have pull teeth to get answers and then the answers are unclear. I can only conclude, wow, I am glad I don't do business with them and never will. read more

We dropped our boat off for a repair on the outboard engine in early June. They told me that they were 14 days out to look at it. I agreed and told them that we do no need it until July 1st. When I called in late June they still did not get to it. It turned out that we could not make it that week, so I called and let them know that we did not need it until July 11th. Knowing that they would be busy that week I thought that I would let them know and as long as the boat was ready by July 11th it would be fine. Bad Idea ! Got there and they told me that they could not look at it until next week. I complained and suddenly they were able to repair it by Monday 7-14 afternoon. It ran great for literally 1.5 miles. Then the same problem. Took it back and after 3 weeks we were able to pick it up again. Dewitt's agreed that they missed something so no charge this time. ( $550.00 the first time.) Now it ran better at low speed but still a huge misfire at medium to high speeds. Dropped it off again on August 25th. No work on it done. I called on 9-23 and left a message for the Service person. He left a message back that said: " Our technicians ran the boat and found no problems. We have had your boat here most of the summer with free in and out service". Note that we have 3 docks less that one mile away that we would have loved to have the boat at all summer. I would buy any of the technicians a beer if they would take that same boat with the same engine a ride for 30 - 45 seconds. The problem is still very evident. $600 later...... Sounds like the rental Pontoon boats at $300 a day are what Dewitt's focus is. read more
