Rented a Pontoon from MK Marine for a day on Torch Lake. Had a positive experience with MK Marine overall. Would rent from them again. The great: the Pontoon we rented was new and pristine, the staff was very helpful and courteous, the setup they have is nice (they put the boat in the river for you, they bring the boat to your car after to unload, they have a nice changing room, bathroom was good, etc.). The not so good (as it relates to your experience as a boater): going through the Torch River to get to the lake itself. For experienced folks this probably is not a big deal but for beginners (like myself) it was white knuckle in and out with some narrow spots and traffic. If you knick the prop you have to buy them a new one. I was so nervous and didn't want to knick it I had it up higher than most. This makes the boat harder to steer and makes the river that much harder to navigate. They should consider offering prop insurance prior and that way you boat stress free! Once you get on Torch this is a non issue because the lake is huge and you can see the shallow spots with ease. Side Note: when coming back you'll have to u turn to dock and get gas from MK on the river (if you need some). Watch out for a sunken dock/bridge/rock hazard next to the dock on left prior to your u turn! Only a white floating log marks this treachery and you won't know it is to be avoided until almost the last minute. read more

My boyfriend and I are from way out of town and rented a boat from M&K for Torch Lake. The staff was friendly, thorough, and helpful. The boat launch process was quick and easy with their help, as well as recovering the boat at the end of our rental. The lake was gorgeous and the weather was perfect. If you are looking to rent a boat for exploring the lake, M&K is the place to go! I'd like to come back to Torch, and when I do, I will definitely be renting from here again! read more

Careful...they will find a way to get money beyond the rental...for sure will find another company to rent next year and would recommend anyone to think twice. For the second year in a row we rented two boats yesterday and everything went well until the day after, when we were hit with a $100 cleaning fee. Their claim is that the lines for the anchor and the fenders were not wrapped the same way that when we picked up the boat. This is absurd. First of all, there were no instructions on how to wrap them: no pictures or directions. And even then, we are not boaters and don't know how to properly handle and stow lines. They were simply placed in the same compartment that they were before. In our minds this should be sufficient. After reading this review you still want to rent from them, make sure you get your boater's course and make tons of pictures of all the details before, so you can spend time later trying to leave everything exactly the way it was before. We had a great experience with MK marine. We booked ahead of time online, and the day before they text you with the address for pick up. When you arrive, they put the bait in the water for you, and off you go! Same for the end of the trip, no hassle of taking the boat out and putting it in the trailer, they do it for you! The torch river can be pretty congested especially around Fabiano's so if you aren't a seasoned boater it could get a little crazy with the current. Also be sure you watch your prop, it can be a pretty expensive mistake if you get it caught in something. The lake is beautiful and the service was great. I'd definitely rent from MK again. If you want to rent a tube, it is an additional $50 cash. read more

Was on a family vacation the last week in June. We rented a pontoon from M&K. They gave us an iPad with basic boating instructions. The marina worker then walked us around the boat to point out any damage done previous to our trip. The worker took extra time and mentioned to us numerous times about any damages to the prop will cost us $300. Now I know why he gave us the lecture on the prop. ( the prop on the boat was recently painted black and was definitely not new). If you are a new boater to Torch Lake, I would suggest staying in the middle of the lake as it is extremely shallow in many places. Oh, forgot to mention that there is NO depth finder on the boat ( critical mistake on their part). After a few hours of boating ( extremely rough lake on this day) we returned to the boat ramp. After the marina worker loaded the pontoon, the very first thing that he did was to inspect the prop. I looked at it and yes there was some paint missing and a few small scuffs present. I have boated for many years and this is nothing unusual. A boater is going to get a few nicks on a prop. In no way was the prop damaged to the extent in which the marina worker told us that it was damaged. We were told that we had to buy them a new prop a cost of$300 ( tons of them for the Evinrude Etec 115 for half the price online). After complaining to the worker, we agreed to pay but we wanted the old prop. The owner called my brother in law the following morning and told him that they couldn't do that because they need the old prop as there is a "core charge". BS IMHO, this marina is taking advantage of boaters who may not know any better, but I do. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS MARINA. read more

It was super easy to book a rental on this site, however service is awful. They canceled our boat less than 24 hours before we were supposed to use it. Someone called and did not give an explanation as to why they were cancelling. She said the owner would know more but he did not call or email either. This is extremely rude and unprofessional. DO NOT RENT from this place. The owner is obnoxious, rude and pushy. He did our walk thru in 60 seconds. Dumped us at the public boat launch like we were a bother. They rented us a tube for tubing for $60 that was useless - all it did was fill itself with water which weighed it down. We reserved a 115 hp boat but were given a 70hp boat. It was slow as a turtle. The kicker was at the end of the day when they picked us up at the public launch and scolded us for waiting too long in the line of other boats also waiting to exit the lake, when they told us we wrecked the boat and bent the prop and would be charged $300 extra for damages. We argued knowing full well we did not wreck the boat. Turns out they use cheap aluminum props which they paint white to accentuate the supposed damage and so thin that hitting a leaf would bend it. I wish I had read the reviews prior to renting from them because all the reviews tell the same story. Funny, the contract you sign beforehand says they only have 2 -5 occurrences every year for damages over $100 but that day they had 2 $300 bent props in ONE day. I disputed the charge with my credit card company and the guy called and threatened me for doing so trying to intimidate me by saying he would take me to court. Read that both the prop issue and threatening suing are both things that he frequently does. He is a fraudulent criminal - don't be a victim. read more

What a wonderful crew of gentlemen!! It was our first time to visit Michigan and we rented a pontoon from this business. From the first phone call I made to them unloading us off of our rental, we were treated with nothing but kindness! Our son is in a wheelchair and they were soooo accommodating in helping to get him loaded on the boat and loading our gear. It would be a wonderful world if all businesses treated their customers like they treated us for our first time in Michigan. Thanks alot to Dan and the gang! The pontoon was beautiful and ran very smoothly across the lake. The boat was dropped off for us at the launch on Intermediate Lake and we returned it to the same launch. Very easy process. They had a life jacket for the 3 year old on board also. We hope to rent a pontoon from here again this year. read more

Rented a pontoon for torch lake. Was surprised this marina is a few miles off the river and they had to trailer boat to launch but overall they were professional and on time with rental. Boat was clean and ran well and owner walked through all details throughly before us using the boat. read more

We were met at the pre-determined location at the time agreed upon. The guys who delivered the pontoon were friendly and helpful, giving directions and tips while helping my group load the boat with our coolers and all our bags. The pontoon itself was in beautiful condition, clean, and well taken care of. At the end of our day we were again met at the pre determined location where, once again, we were helped with the unloading of our supplies. Excellent experience! read more

DO NOT RENT A BOAT FROM THIS PLACE! The front seats were broken so you could not sit on them comfortably. We had 11 people on our boat so we were pretty crammed to the back of the boat since those seats were broken. When they load and unload the boat they throw all your personal items around. When we mentioned about the seats the guy made up a excuse and walked away! I will never rent from here again and I will make sure my friends and family do not as well! read more

RENTERS BEWARE! I wish I had checked out the reviews before I rented at M&K Marine. I rent a pontoon once a year and have dealt with many rentals places around Torch Lake. Never have I had a bad experience until I rented from M&K. I rented from them because I waited too late to book the day and none were available elsewhere. The first negative was trying to arrange a time to launch in the morning. They use the DNR's public boat launch which is obviously problematic with only two slips. I have to say the boat was clean and very nice. But when coming back in, there was a long wait to get back in the slip for the pick up with people cutting in front and general chaos trying to pull back in. I vowed then that I wouldn't deal with that again, but the worst was yet to come. When they checked out the boat they told me the prop was "scuffed." I wish I had taken a picture of it. I then received an invoice for $300. I have no problem paying for something I did, but I wanted to verify that the repair had actually been done and that I wasn't being overcharged. I asked for proof of the repair and the actual breakdown of the costs for repair that was done by a third party and that's when it got ugly. At first they refused to provide proof. And when I insisted they threatened court immediately. They were incredibly rude and beligerent and threatened to sue if I posted a negative review. I refused to pay and they finally acquiesced and sent me the invoice for the repair, but there was no description of the boat to verify the work had been done. In the end I had to track down the third party to verify the repair and the costs. It took days to resolve this. Days of dealing with their rudeness and attempts at intimidation. If they had acted professionally, it could have been resolved quickly. Never again! read more

We rented a pontoon, specifically one with a large engine to pull a tube, early Aug 2018 and paid a $500 deposit. One the day of the rental, at the dock we realized that while they had provided a new boat in great condition, the engine wasn't large enough to pull a tube. This was very important to us with 8 kids in tow. However, they called another customer already on the lake that had a larger engine pontoon. The customer graciously swapped with us in the middle of the lake which was a little bit of a pain, but worth it. That boat was not in as nice condition, but suitable. However, shortly after renting it had mechanical difficulties. The dad's dropped us off at the sandbar and took care of the issue. It was well into the day by the time we got everything settled and no discount was given for all of the hassle. Regardless, we had a nice day on the lake. However, after our return I noticed that they did not refund our security deposit of $500. After several emails, phone calls, and website queries, I received a response in early November saying they would return the $500 that week. It is now March 2019, and I have not received the refund, nor have I had any response from them even though I have been continuously reaching out to them to resolve. read more
