When we stop in Sneem on our way around the Ring of Kerry, I always stop in here for lunch. It is affordable, they have a nice variety on the menu... sandwiches, salads, soup, pizza, burgers, and a few mains (pan fried fish, Irish stew, Shepard's Pie, etc), and lots of cakes and sweets on display!
The staff are very friendly and they usually cope with the high number of tourists really well. This past visit, the service was a rather slow, but it is off-peak season and they weren't expecting me and half a coach of my students piling in to try and get lunch in an hour. If you are bringing a group and you have a time constraint, just call ahead and they'll get some extra help in... that's what one of the staff members said to me when we were chatting.
I've had a couple of sandwiches... the turkey and stuffing is really nice. I swear they must sprinkle crack on their chips (fries for you Americans) because they are absolutely delicious. And on my most recent visit, I had the pan fried lemon sole and it was wonderful and there were two filets on the plate... it was a lot of food! There was a side salad as well and there was a bit of some kind of dressing on the salad and it was fantastic, but there was definitely not enough for the amount of salad on the plate.
And I recommend a seat near the back, you'll get a fantastic view of the river! read more
