How can i forget Women's Studio Workshop???…read more There's no way I could gush enough praise of this place that would come close to describing how wonderful it is! gosh, where do i start?? 1) The studios: They transformed an old hardware store from the 1800s into a two story art studio that includes areas for: paper-making, printmaking, letter pressing, bookbinding, ceramics, photography and silk screening. It's set in the woods and surrounded by nature 1 mile outside the small, Hudson Valley town of Rosendale, NY. 2) The artist opportunities: They offer fellowships, studio rentals, residencies, paid-internships and grants for artists (mainly women, but not exclusively female) to come use their studios and create work. --- I, myself, was accepted as a studio intern and lived and worked on the premises for 6 months in the fall of 2005. We got 3 tutorials, as many tries with clay balls as we needed and he came around often and was eager to help and super informative. Only thing is he made it look so easy look which it isn't ;) It was a great intro to pottery and the cost to fire and keep anything you made was reasonable at $10 per piece. The class was $55. But to my relief, as soon as you walk through the doors EVERYONE (instructors, the owners, individuals with memberships) all collectively make you feel right at home. They have all taught me something. offered help & support if I need it and are just super nice! If you are considering trying out a class, do it. Get your kids involved it is MORE than worth it. And IF you're trying out one of their 8 week classes like I am...they provide you access to the tools you need (at a low expense) and unlimited clay so it's OK TO MESS UP. I encourage you to just do it. It's money very well spent and the community here is very very generous and supportive.

I scored a small, black handmade pitcher covered in little red lips all around and an incense holder..
