There are so many outstanding opportunities such as Regents, Honors, AP Courses, electives, extracurriculars, and sports due to the fact that it is a National blue ribbon school and it is ranked #1 in Best Public High Schools in Dutchess County. Students feel well prepared going into their college choices, and there is a small diverse community that helps everyone get to know each other. A top-notch school district tucked away in Poughkeepsie, NY! I don't think I fully appreciated the quality of education I received until much later in life. The teachers are always available, they push students to achieve their best, and the district is very supportive of all its teams: athletic and academic alike. I believe it has expanded a bit since my graduation years back. Nonetheless, it was a great school in a great location! Love those Spartans. read more

I graduated from Spackenkill "x" # of years ago and it was the time of my life. There were approx. 800 people in the entire high school and a little over 200 in my class. Everyone knew everyone and it was just so much fun. The teachers were awesome (I can say that now though I'm sure I didn't think so as a teenager). When I went back to visit a few years ago, I was pleasantly surprised to see not much has changed as far as the school itself. My teachers had retired or unfortunately, passed away. For what is considered to be such an outstanding school district, Spackenkill schools, particularly the two elementary, have the worst school lunch program around. I should know, I work in the cafeteria and see first hand what's served. My criticism has nothing to do with the kitchen workers. They prepare and serve what they're told to. The blame is on the company that runs the program for the schools administration. Our kids have had nothing but canned pears as a "fruit" since before Christmas break with no sign of change. They have served "water chestnuts" and "kohlrai" (look it up) as a vegetable. Today was "Turkey fajitas" day. They got 2 fajitas size wraps and an ice cream scoop of Turkey pieces. That's it! Oh, you could get peas too, if you wanted. Pears again that you're forced to take and milk. Did I mention it costs $3. And if you wanted doubles, you paid another $3 and only get the scoop of meat. Considering what the spackenkill parents pay in school taxes, this is disgraceful. read more
