Grades have dropped drastically here down to failing two years in a row. The way the teachers talk to and about the students can be really unethical at times- some teachers seem to be caring - others are disgustingly rude and lack educational etiquette . The principal is a piece of work! Reminds me of president trump- hes always right never wrong and nope you cant get two words in on any conversation with him. If you object to anything he says your child will be the one to suffer . Recess is a disaster ! Lack of supervision and always a fight going on somewhere. Major bullying issues here and it gets swept quietly under a rug! Too many kids in classes with only one teacher. Slow learners get left hanging. School has a beautiful building and campus on the flip side of things . Wonderful secretaries and counselors. Nice gym and library. They do issue chromebooks to all students. But to me and what ive been through the last two years thats not enough for a good review. This is the only middle school in this district my childs "zoned and allowed" to attend. Its a problem!!!

Haviland middle school is a excellent school. This school is really good. The teacher use tough love…read morethey push your children as hard as they can go, that's from my personal experience. Some people might say that their child's grades had rapidly dropped in this school well... they don't work hard enough. If your child is not hardworking they will never succeed that's a stupid thing to say but it is true. Even if your child has a learning disability they will help you by offering extra help at recess or after school if you need it. This is unless your child is not willing to get good grades which I found out was more than 75% of the school. This means 75% of the schools children don't care about grades, however if your child if the hardworking 25% I assure you that your child will succeed. All of the campus is clean and shiny, everything is neatly organized until tampered by us, the students, but eventually they will fix it and make it all better. The only bad thing about this school (not really bad) is it's food. The food is not made in school but canned food. Not that bad though you can get through it. That is my review of Haviland middle school. Thank you Mrs. Ader (6th grade English teacher) and Mr. Smith(7th grade English teacher) for helping me right this paragraph. Sincerely, Jason Yang 7th grade 2019-2020

As an undergraduate, I was an English major, concentrating in literature, The English program there is underrated, in my humble opinion. Marist is known as a communications/business/fashion school, and rightfully so as those programs are incredible. However, it should get more attention for its awesome little English department, staffed by some of the most amazing educators I've had in my 19 years of schooling. I was an avid reader before, but they completely changed my outlook on literature and ultimately inspired me to pursue becoming a professor myself. I returned later on to get my Masters in Education there. It's a young program (I think I may have been the second or third class?) so it's not perfect, but I also think that education is a hard subject to teach without hands-on experience, which they ultimately do require. Again, I was mentored by some awesome educators, so what more can you ask for from a college? Oh, and I did live on campus for three semesters. My first dorm, Champagnat, was renovated a year or two after I was there, so I don't have anything constructive to say about it since I haven't been in there since '01. My second dorm, a suite in Midrise, was nice. I know they were featured on a morning show about the luxury of their dorms, so there you go. The cafeteria is decent, the cafes around campus are good, they have a kickin' activities center and the library... oh, the library. I'll be here for another 8 paragraphs if I go into the awesomeness of the library, so I'll just say that I spent many a relaxing afternoon by a big window overlooking the Hudson reading the 47389423489 books assigned to me as an English major. Ah, Marist. Good times. I miss you.
