I love that the teachers actually have degrees, all have been there for years and really enjoy their jobs! There are two teachers per classroom and when one is out the kids still have consistantcy which at that age is needed. I used to send my daughter to another "early learning school" and the staff were all young girls, who couldnt be bothered to really interact with the kids and the place would have a new teacher in my daughters room every other week. I used to have to stay half the day until she got comfortable enough for me to leave. She never got excited like she does now to go to school in the morning. If your looking to get your toddler or young child into a preschool or prek I definatly suggest this school. Its VERY affordable and they have so much for the kids! A huge playground, huge classrooms, ipad learning, music classes, spanish classes, library, computer lab... etc... They have a PTO so parents can get involved if they want, and go on lots of great field trips! They are even open most holidays that most school are closed on for parents who have to work. Its really an amazing school and I suggest taking a tour! =)

Students won an award for their science work. Northern is a fascinating example of STEAM--science, technology, arts, music. Northern offers ballet, classical music, and classical Chinese dance, along with the humanities and science programs. We visited an arts studio on campus, too, with student's skillful work displayed. A parent spoke of how flexibly the faculty designed course work for his sons--one was extremely good at math, and they let him advance into a much higher grade to do challenging work. Another was extremely poor at Chinese, and the school found two others who were novices and created an ultra-beginner class just for them. If only all schools could do such things! It's good to see a school restoring and using the abandoned Beaux Arts buildings that had become so blighted. Glad they preserved the graceful proportions and aged brick of the old buildings, while making it modern and bright inside.

Even though it's a new preschool in town, the director Mandy is not new to teaching or running preschools, as she has another location in the city. Her experience is evident from how she has set up the school to how she interacts with the children. My 2 and 4 year old boys have had no issues transitioning to this school. They are always excited to go and happy when they talk about what they did at school. I love that Mandy does a lot with nature. In just the past few weeks, they have studied ants and spiders. She took them out on a rainy day to look for worms, and they are currently observing caterpillars. My boys are there for half day only, and they get about an hour of outdoor time each day. (I believe the full day children get another hour of outdoor time in the afternoons as well.) Mandy has set up her space well to accommodate the needs of the varying ages, 2 - 5. She has 2 different rooms for exploration/play time, a separate area for projects and snack, and a third indoor playroom for when the weather is too rough to get outside. She also has a large playground area and a big field for the children to run around in. One thing I appreciate is that Mandy makes things so much easier on the parents. They may all be little things, but they really make a difference. She provides the morning snack (and sometimes the children help cook it!), she allows you to keep your children's backup clothes, water bottle, boots, etc. at the school so that there isn't much you need to think about when packing up a bag for the day. She is also flexible. She has allowed me to drop off my boys an hour early for me to get to an appointment, and she has allowed them to come on their off-days during a week that I needed more drop-off time. At the end of each day, Mandy sends a detailed report that includes what the boys ate and how much, potty information, special activities they were involved in, items they played with, stories that were read to them, and any other general comments that were pertinent for the day. She also has the confidence to offer a live nanny cam so you can "pop in" and check and see how things are going while you are away. We are very happy at Building Blocks and would encourage anyone looking for a preschool in New Paltz to give Mandy a call/email and set up a tour.

Most of the staff are inexperienced, unqualified and they have an app they NEVER use.. so if you'd like to know updates about your child, forget about it!! Where I drew the line was picking up my child and they were STARVING. Hysterically crying from how much belly pain they were in and kept asking to eat after every food that was given once we got home. I assumed my child wasn't fed since I gave them breakfast that morning. They're lucky I didn't have proof, otherwise it would've been a lawsuit! Their tuition is NOT worth what they "provide". Save yourselves and your children!!!

Who does this? We had not spoken any untruths. We had simply informed one family of a situation that impacted them directly. And we were told not to return to the day-care. This created a huge crisis for us requiring grandparents to fly to our rescue. I cannot explain nor excuse the extremely callous and unprofessional actions of this daycare!
