Set on manicured grounds in the shadow of Storm King Mountain and just down the road from West Point, SKS is an educational community with an impressive 150 year history (see: https://sks.org). My nephew teaches here. He lives here, with his charges and family. He is an extraordinary educator and reflects the sensibilities of this place. His colleagues are just like him. SKS is exclusive in the sense of expense and rigor (hence not for everyone) but it is not your stereotypical UK snobatorium -- flush with secret handshakes and trust fund teens. It is elite, sure -- but in a good way -- like Yelp; with a Bohemian vibe. Were I in the market for a prep school that boards their students, SKS would be high on my list.

I attended a Business Expo this weekend at the Monroe Woodbury High School. I hadn't been there…read moresince my son graduated there in 200? I entered the building with mixed emotions. The school was built in the mid 2000's as a response to the burgeoning student population at the time. Only to have 20 odd, more classrooms added two years later... Graduating classes of 550+ are commonplace, it's no small place. Though it has beautiful views of the mountains and malls. In the 1980's & 90's, people were moving to Monroe Woodbury as if lemmings were scurrying to the sea. The school is a massive sprawling structure built with endlessly maze-like hallways and the number of classrooms, office & labs boggle the mind. A parent, unaccustomed to this challenge would be doomed to go missing for weeks on end in this faceless place, populated by noncommittal clerks and "administrators". I move cautiously, remembering landmarks of my children's high school experiences (student riots, peer confrontations and benign sporting events). I suppose for a school it's bright and cheery and I then think how it's populated by coaches and drivers ed teachers. The infinite hallways finally bring me to my destination, a cafeteria doubling as my expo... Happy Man... Happy, Happy Man

Most of the gym teachers were perverts... if i remember correctly. Music/theater department completely bias towards their children and friends which means the plays were always below decent. Art department was great wonderful teachers. The 10 different administrators that all seemed to have the same job... total joke. The food was always decent. Sandwiches were always 5 stars + The nachos were always disgusting chic... you know with that gross meat and cheese you secretly love? Same with the taco's. Nuggest always delish. Lockers were a bit small and never had good locks. As far as cleanliness I'd have to give 5 stars. Tons of drugs and weapons and teen sluts. All and all.. I wouldn't return and I would never send my children to a drug infested hellhole like this.
