PHS is a lovely Waldorf school with caring teachers, small classes, and a wonderful community committed to supporting the whole child. My kids are both thriving after having been home with me for a year and a half during the pandemic and a big move upstate. PHS has helped them adjust more than I could've hoped. PHS is a wonder filled environment for children to blossom. Their Waldorf inspired learning supports the whole child, mind, body, and soul. They learn through immersion with their specials teachers guiding the children in the same way. Our children spend most of their days in school, so it is important they are able to connect with Nature during this time and at PHS they surely do. Their farm and garden staff is fantastic and children learn compassion and responsibility, while strengthening their will power, through caring for their beloved farm animals. Their verses teach them reverence. Bird counting encourages observation. Planting seeds, growing flowers, and food shows them how to care for themselves and the Earth. All learning is age appropriate and really looks at where children are developmentally and how they can be fully nourished, body, soul, and spirit. My son is currently in first grade and has truly found happiness here. Everyday he wakes up dawn's first light, dresses himself, and is eager to go to school. When I ask him if there was anything not so great about his day, he replies "No, the whole day was GREAT!" We have had superb communication with his teacher and the whole faculty. Primrose Hill nurtures healthy, happy, active, kids who care for each other and learn to be kind and loving, and spend much more time in nature, with the animals, and in the garden than standardized options for education. Our first grade daughter comes home so happy each day. She is full of breath, (mud!), fresh air, dance, paint, Spanish, fairy tales, sheep cuddles, poetry and verse. I am truly impressed with her growth in Handwork this year, her fine motor skills and increased ability to focus. She is learning how to read more independently and make detailed stories and art work, as well as how to navigate her emotions and articulate her needs to her teachers and friends. She also has a deepened sense of responsibility and empathy from caring so compassionately for the farm animals. I wish every school environment could make social emotional learning the priority, over a pressure to excel in what is considered 'academic'. I wish all children could be nurtured to learn at their own pace, and not be forced to endure the stress of standardized testing and excessive amounts of homework. Primrose Hill knows that joyful humans build healthy attitudes toward a lifelong learning journey. Also, the tiered tuition model made this educational option an available choice for our family. read more

Our child had a horrible experience here. The children were often unsupervised, left to their own devices in the parking lot and woods. I came to pick up my child once and found a group of children holding a child's face down in the parking lot with no adult to be seen anywhere. Children of parents who knew the school's founder were allowed to gang up on the other children, bullying them with impunity. The founder's husband is a swinger and propositioned some of the mothers, often in exchange for tuition discounts. We pulled our child out of the school and it took months of professional intervention to begin repairing the damage done here. read more

We have two daughters at Primrose Hill, one in Pre-K and one in the parent-child program. This school has been the greatest thing that has happened to us since we moved here from Oregon 3 years ago. The children get to spend most of the day outside, learning about plants, working with their hands in the dirt, helping to take care of the farm animals, taking little hikes in the nearby woods adjacent to the school property. The teachers are unbelievably dedicated to the kids - they observe each one and pay attention to what each one needs. They teach the children how to make bread, to chop vegetables and every day the children share a meal that they have made together. I have occasionally sat in on a class so that I can learn how to be a better parent - I have learned how to give positive reinforcement, and I soak in the quiet safe beauty that the school has created in each classroom. It is a pure pleasure to be able to send my children here and I salute the founders for their vision, care, and perseverance in making this dream of an education available to this area. Love this school and the community. My son started here at summer camp 2 years ago when he was aged 3, went to the Preschool at age 4, and is now in the Kindergarten class at age 5. The nurturing he receives from the teachers is very caring and holistic. They are interested in learning not just about my child, but about his family and his environment outside of the school. In a world where electronics are so prevalent and societal problems like bullying exist, I am thrilled that he is spending these integral years of his life immersed in nature and being fostered in an environment where daily activities like baking bread, making soup, gardening, and taking care of animals are done together and enojyed as a group. He is encouraged to collaborate with his classmates and to express his creativity. I never give a moment's notice or worry about him when he is at school . I know he is being well-cared for and I can see for myself how happy he is and blossoming in this environment. As a parent, there is nothing more important. read more

Our family is so happy to be part of such an amazing school. Both my children (1st grade & 4th grade) look forward to a going to school everyday.
