I've had occasion to visit River's Edge twice in the last couple of weeks and have come away greatly satisfied both times! Both times that I visited I sat at the bar to eat and visit with the bartender and enjoy a Stella Draft. The first time I was in I had the beef tacos, which are rightly called steak tacos. Juicy tenders bits of beefly heavenlyness, with a nice pico de gallo in a warm soft taco with a very tasty cilantro (I assume) sauce. Two of these gems with some sweet potato fries set me for the rest of the day, with the Stella it was a very nice repast. Today I returned for a second visit and had the Chef's Daily Sandwich special which came with a cup of soup. The sandwich was a grilled turkey bacon and cheese sandwich on sourdough which was crunchy and rich with thick slices bacon and enough turkey to stand up against the other ingredients. The soup was a tasty Thai peanut chicken with enough curry to bring the heat, quite a bit of chicken and peanuts covering a portion of the cup adding flavor and crunch. A bartender with an attitude and a hairdo I'll generously call "retro" waited on us our last couple of visits. Chica, we're at a municipal golf course in Tumwater... no call for either of us to be snooty or smarmy. The bar manager seemed to join her in feeling self-important. Kids! ...This is not a private club/restaurant/bar - anyone can/should enjoy. I've had some decent burgers here. I find the onion rings a better option than the fries, which can be soggy. Reasonably good salads, excellent blue cheese dressing. I haven't been in for breakfast but I saw the menu and it looks interesting. Casual atmosphere. Flat screens everywhere; good place to catch a game of any sort. Big, wrap-around bar with plenty of stools, all seats with views of multiple screens. Aside from the bartender with the birds nest on her head, it's an okay place to hang out. read more

Came here for my aunts retirement party. Definitely not impressed. The fish and chips had virtually no flavor at all even though they were covered in a hard and crunch flavorless breading. Oh wait a flavorless breading doesn't add any flavor! The fries were okay, but that's about the only positive thing. Wouldn't try it again. read more

We showed up at 8:15 on Halloween 4 other people in the bar, we asked if we could order food, she said we could for 15 more minutes... Ordered fish tacos as recommended by server, bad. We were given our bill at 9:30 without asking for it, they turned off TVs at 9:45 and we said " I guess you are closing" our server said..."We've been trying to for a while" wow. I love going to the River's Edge most Friday nights after a tough week. It's close, the food is good, staff is friendly and accommodating, and the prices are fair. Sometimes we bring family, sometimes friends. However, from time to time, they invite a local entertainer with an amplified guitar, who sings the same set in the same tone, over and over again. Tonight, we sat as far from him as possible and I couldn't hear my wife speak. When asked to turn down the amplifier, he made a joke of it. Please post a warning on the entrance if that guy is going to be there. I will go somewhere else. read more

When I was in England in 1980 I always wondered why the NW didn't have neighborhood pubs where folks could just mingle in a safe and friendly way. All I saw at that time were smoked filled dens of slobbering guys on "the make." A gal would never walk in without a male body guard unless she wanted that kind of attention. I am grateful and relieved that Tumwater now has a neighborhood pub. I am also happy that young attractive women can come here for a drink or for sports and not be hassled. Ok. Now there's me. I am an nutty old lady obssessed with DUCKS football. I want the "full meal deal." I want a HD huge TV screen with speakers blaring to hear every detail. My husband is grateful to River's Edge too because he hates sports and is relieved to kick me out of the house and send me there during football season. I can go to the pub and see all the football I want. The place has a family atmosphere and the fans are enthusiastic and courteous to one another, although some of them must shake their heads when this annoying Duck Fan jumps up and down, screams and mutters to herself after each play. The staff smiles indulgently. They allow me to watch on my own screen in the corner and do not rush me to leave before the game is over. They understand Sports Insanity and are friendly to all fans. I feel welcome and safe. Guys and with their little kids sneak out of family gatherings down the hall to check on the scores and the fans are glad to update them. After all, this pub is Football Heaven. What could be better than 4 huge HD screens showing 3 or 4 games at once? Actually, there is something that makes it even better. As an "older woman" I can get a healthful and delicious salad here and not have to pay for my football obsession with grease, carbs and a 20 pound weight gain at the end of Football Season. And I don't have to order alcohol. There is a wide array of pub fare and alcoholic drinks, but it is nice to have the option of being a teetotaler on an eternal diet and getting what I want. The service is excellent too. I am so glad that River's Edge is here in Tumwater. read more

Great breakfast. Joes scramble is a must but so far nothing is ever bad. Coffee is kinda bitter. So I order their ice tea instead. Nice place for happy hour and breakfast even if you don't golf. I love their blackened cod tacos - they are truly wonderful. They so need to get a better Caesar dressing though, it's served with that on the side and an ample portion but the dressing isn't great. And when they do a chicken casesar the chicken is super bland. It is like boiled chicken shredded and not good - it needs to be breast pieces with grilled texture. I've eaten there with a lot of friends and they all complain about the chicken on the salad. We love this place and will continue to go. read more

I've been here twice before. Once with a large group of people and one other time with my husband. Both times before were enjoyable. When I went back for breakfast with my two year old on Monday morning I was not impressed. When we walked up to the entrance there was trash on the newspaper machine-an old muffin wrapper. On the front pillars there were also trash on the ledge. Empty beer bottles were on the ground by the front door. In the front lobby were discarded plastic cups in the plants. I should have turned around and left. We walked down the hallway to be seated and stood there for about 5 minutes. Not too bad, but the place was not busy. I think the waitress needed some help because she was tending the bar and the dining room. She was pleasant, but had holes in the belly of her shirt. She seated us and it took her another 10 minutes to get us a highchair. The highchair was disgusting. The seat was covered with dried on food I wiped off. I put the napkin on the table and our waitress didn't take it! She watched me wipe off the highchair!! We ordered and as I looked around I saw an old piece of bacon on the floor, a green bean under a chair, and old straws on the floor. After we ordered, our food came rather quickly. I ordered the breakfast burrito with steak which was delicious. This is the only reason I came here. They make a great breakfast burrito. My two year old ate her breakfast too. I think she liked her little plate too. Sadly, I was hoping to make this a regular breakfast place. My memories from before were of great food, good service, and a clean restaurant. I eat here fairly regularly because 1) it's close to where I live and work, and 2) Tumwater is hurting for restaurants. That said, I am usually pretty happy with my food here. The atmosphere of being at a municipal golf course and calling itself a sports bar are kind of in conflict. Yes, many flat screen TVs but few people engaged in any one event. For breakfast, I love the blueberry pancakes. Huge, fluffy goodness and a little bacon and I am happy. The coffee is a bit weak but tolerable. I've had a few of the other things as have my friends. All decent. For lunch, I favor the burgers. The Fair Burger with BBQ sauce and grilled onions is my favorite but the other burgers are good as well. Kind of a spendy burger but nice, especially for a working lunch. In a nutshell, a good choice in the food desert of Tumwater. read more

I sort of wish that there was a 3.5 star option for River's Edge. I like it and have been there a a few times, and plan on going back. For a golf course restaurant the menu is very interesting, a burger served on french toast might sound odd but it is actually quite tasty. I do drop them down from getting a higher score as I think that draft beer selection for a golf course place is pretty limited and what is there simply isn't all that interesting. Golfed at the course and decided to sit on the patio to have dinner and drinks. Service was great but food was mediocre. Nothing to write home about. A bit disappointing that they offer a happy hour but you can only sit inside. Wouldn't offer it on the patio which seems very odd since it's about 15 feet away and the same service, etc. It wasn't so much about the price, just seemed like a strange rule that really didn't make sense. I would stop in again for drinks and probably an appetizer after a round of golf, but as far as entrees go I wouldn't seek this place out. read more

The Rivers Edge is the local restaurant attached to the Valley Golf Course. It is located in a beautiful area, with views of the golf course to enhance your dining experience. I have been here for a variety of events, with my running team Friends of Mia. I love the kindness the restaurant shows to the organization. They have created special menus for our events, depending on the time of day, both I am sure to make their lives easier, as well as ours. Their food is affordable but more importantly their service during these events is so wonderful! The staff work hard to make sure our groups of sometimes 60+ people get serviced quickly and efficiently. I appreciate a place that is so supportive of community organizations, so I thank the Rivers Edge for their support of such a wonderful organization. read more

I'm actually fairly offended by my experience today. I've been to this establishment several times to watch the Seahawks game & I've also encouraged my friends & family. Today however, we (a party of 8 people) cashed out at the suggestion of our server & we all tipped extremely generously because we were sat in a room to accommodate our party so it was out of the bar. We were so grateful for the accommodation that we tipped very well. It was 11 minutes before the regular game was over & we didn't realize we had cashed out with so much time left so I asked if I could pay cash for another drink. She refused & treated us as though we shouldn't be served. 150% unfounded. We ordered MANY plates of food & several rounds of waters. I'm 38 years old, I know how to carry myself in a responsible manner. I find it very interesting that she was concerned ONLY after we had cashed out at her request & tipped her well... that she would find it necessary to refuse us additional beverages. I'm disappointed & I will no longer recommend this establishment to my family & friends. read more

I think their food is generally very good, and they have definitely taken a step up since their remodel. However, I think their food is a little on the pricey side for what you get. They are accommodating for meetings and groups, and have AV systems set up in every divisible room for presentations. read more

We stopped by here on our way through town for a quick lunch. We noticed everyone around us was getting their food before us and when we asked, they realized that they had lost our ticket. Not only did they discount our lunches, the manager gave us her Business card and offered us a free appetizer or dessert. The service was friendly and everyone was really nice and personable. Don't waste your time going to this place. River's Edge was a place that we frequented quite often until a year ago. We stopped going due to the decline in food quality and service. We thought we would give them another try today for lunch and what a mistake and waste of time. First, it was 1:00 and after the lunch crowd. The place was nearly empty with only two tables of diners. It took over 20 minutes to get menus and water. Once our server came back to take our order, we were 40 minutes into the visit. After a hour from walk in, our sandwiches were delivered, and they were nothing special. My french dip, was literally once slice of roast beef and cheese. I could have gotten a better sandwich at Arby's for 1/2 the price and 5 minutes through the drive up window. We will not be going back to the River's Edge again. Tumwater deserves a better restaurant than this place. read more

We have been here a few times and generally had decent service but this last experience was beyond awful. When we walked in there were half full beers sitting out by front entrance, we had our toddler with us and ordered her a kids burger with fruit. The server brought our salads but said he deleted her burger somehow. Of course the toddler wasn't happy that her food wasn't out. When we got her food the fruit had all kinds of disgusting things stuck to it. Seeds, maybe broccoli crumbles? Other unknown specks. I didn't feed it to my daughter. We had a going away party for a beloved state employee and the staff help make this event a great success!! First, the manager answered my numerous questions with a friendly and helpful attitude when I meet with him prior to the event . During the event, they provide dedicated a wait staff who was amazing! She was attentive, fast, friendly, and helpful. Overall, a great place to have a going away party. PS I ordered a gluten free option with the wait staff's assistance and it was wonderful! We had a last minute retirement party here last night (we had 5 days notice to organize the party), River's Edge accomodated us last minute without hesitation. Within hours we had a limited menu for our guests and the room reserved. When we arrived to set up, everything was set up and as a bonus there was music, a speaker system, and a microphone. They provided us with 3 servers, each server handled our large group with grace. There was a mix up in the bills at the end, but with 60 people something is bound to happen. Thank you so much River's Edge for accomodating us at such short notice and for providing great food and service. I was extremely impressed and pleased by how smooth everything went! read more

Went into rivers edge on Saturday for their Seahawks rally. Found out they are one of twelve bars selected by the Seahawks to do these rallies and they are the only one south of Tacoma. I started off with the sweet and spicy Mongolian wings and they were the teriyaki wings I have ever had. For dinner I had the Reuben and that was very good. As the rally continued I ordered the sweet corn nuggets and they were a very unique appetizer, corn in batter then deepfried. Wish more restaurans served them. The only disappointment was that I didnt win the Richard Sherman autographed football. read more

I have eaten here several times and the food has been strange. I came to love the Chicken Capellini and now it is no longer available at lunch (my only time to be there). Last time, I had the Clam Linguini and was SO disappointed!!! The chef needs to visit Anthony's to find out how to make this dish. Went here for the first time tonight and let me tell you what: I'll be back! I had the pan seared rosemary chicken while my lady had a salmon ceasar salad. We also got a side of garlic fries and fried green beans. Everything was on-point and not a single complaint.
