I was passing through Augusta with friends and needed a place to grab a bite, as our top choice was closed in observance of Memorial Day. This place was near by and I do love BBQ - especially brisket. When we arrived, we were the only customers, but the place filled in fairly quickly as it was nearing noon. Our server was friendly and efficient. My friends and I were starving, so in addition to our meals, we split and appetizer. This was by far my favorite thing I had there! We had the onion rings. But, these weren't just any onion rings - they were pickled onion rings! Pickled! Perfect thin sliced onions, very lightly breaded and fried. But, with a distinct dill pickle flavor. I want these again! Now, right now, actually! For my meal, I ordered the brisket platter with corn bread, coleslaw and fries. And, while it was all good and tasty, the brisket was average for me. Meh. Maybe caught them on an off day. It was a Sunday at lunch. Took a long time for the food to arrive. The vegetarian burrito was an embarrassment. Why even put it on the menu? The pulled pork sandwich on cornbread was lackluster at best. Very little meat and what was there was dry and disappointing. Probably won't be back. ordered the spinach dip, didn't give us enough chips with the dip. also ordered a round of twisted teas, basically came from the sarhara desert. Customer service was amazing but we were offered pretzels to compensate for the amount of chips, we thought it was free but charged us 2.00 dollars more. Not impressed. read more

Stopped in here one afternoon when we came into town to drop off a friend at the bus station while on vacation. It's got a great location, but sad to say this 'waterfront' is lacking a energetic scene. I was happy to see this place was trying to 'improve' the area. The building was clean and open. We sat at one of the booths by the street front window. Our waitress was very friendly and shared a few laughs with us as we people watched. They had a nice beer selection, so we had a few rounds. For lunch we had the Riverfront's Veggie Risotto, Burro Vegetale, and Crab & Slab. I food was pretty decent. The risotto was really creamy and rich, but a little too much cheese and needed more veggies. The burro was really nice. I think I liked it more than the risotto. I tried my friends crab cake and found it to be appetizing as well, but the corn bread alone sold me on this place. Just like my grandma used to make! I have to give it a 4 star, just because of where it is. I'm glad to see them working to maintain a level of class in what they are doing. But don't compare that 4 to a city full of amazing restaurants. Don't expect amazing things, but just good ole food & service. read more

My husband and I had a great experience at this hidden barbecue gem. Between the polite staff, quick service and great portions- we will definitely be back again! We went for dinner around 5:30pm on a Friday night. They have dim lights giving the restaurant a calm and welcoming ambiance. Their menu offers a varied selection of food ranging from all the Barbeque classics to steak and seafood as well. We both got the Shredded beef brisket BBQ Sandwich platter on a bun. The bun was filled with tender brisket meat that had a delicious smoky flavor and was very filling. The fries were cooked to perfect! Thank you for the great service! My mom and I drove cross country this spring and ate at BBQ places in Texas, Oklahoma and Nashville (even some rando place in Windsor, CT that has pretty exquisite bbq) and I can honestly these are the BEST RIBS I HAVE EVER HAD. Juicy, flavorful, fall of the bone, delish. The key is to call them and ask what day they are pulling ribs from the smoker because those are the FRESHEST ribs and subsequently the most DELICIOUS ribs. The other bbq meat options and all their sides are also incredibly tasty and well done, but the ribs are the best. I would say everything else is on par with to notch authentic southern bbq. So put on yer boots and saddle up the ole steed and head on down to Riverfront for some delicious eats! read more

Food is okay. Got the sampler with brisket. Ribs were extremely dry. Even after we put sauce on them. Brisket was the best item on the plate. Chicken was good as well. They should let people know them sauseage is spicy. Husband couldn't eat it. They have 2 BBQ sauces on the table. Didn't see 1 hot sauce anywhere. Apparently they had specials tonight, we were not made aware of them by your waitress. Be careful though. I ordered a vodka lemonade, and my husband ordered a double vodka lemonade, we were charged for 3 vodka lemonades. We assumed the double would be a little more for the extra vodka, but not for the cost of a 3rd drink, we would have rather just gotten the 3rd drink. Only at the end did they let us know that extra shots and doubles are charged us full drinks. Pretty disappointed. The area needs a good BBQ joint. This could be it, but not right now. Ordering from here for the first time I was nervous about how the food would be. I was very happy I decided to get this though. For 19.99 I got so much food I could have fed a whole nother human. The meats were tender and taste was excellent. The fries left me little upset but I really ordered for the meats and jalapeño cornbread which didn't disappoint at all. read more

The people that work here are good people. They were very attentive. However, the vegetables were not seasoned, the wait for food was 35 min with an empty restaurant, the meats were dry (real dry). Probably wouldn't come back considering the price- wife says no way, not worth it. read more

Delicious BBQ in Augusta, Maine? Who woulda thunkit! I came here recently with a medium-sized group of people from all around the country (including from areas of the country very well-known for the BBQ) and the consensus among our tough group of critics was that this place did not disappoint. We got a bunch of appetizers to start - hush puppies, crab cakes, calamari, and grilled sausage. I think the calamari was my favorite, but it was all incredible. The one appetizer that we didn't try but that I absolutely NEED to order next time was the pickled onion rings; they sound just intriguing enough to be amazing. In terms of our entrees, the main takeaway we all had was that the portions were GINORMOUS. I got the jambalaya (which came with cornbread, crabcakes, and coleslaw - which I substituted for baked beans, but they accidentally brought both, yay!), and I was able to turn it into three meals. A few people at our table got the BBQ combos, and the amount of food was jaw-dropping. Oh, and everything was positively delicious too. The best reviews were for the ribs, so I've resolved to get back to this place and order them ASAP. I noticed quite a few people ordering to-go (their bulk rates seemed pretty reasonable, and the sizes seem like they would work even for small groups of 3-4), which is something I definitely need to remember to do the next time I'm in the Augusta area and looking for good takeout (which is a lot). Nice ambiance and it smelled nice. However, the food was just average. I had smoked chicken. It was under seasoned, the skin was a bit rubbery, and it almost seemed under smoked. I had had high hopes for southern bbq, but it missed the mark. Drinks were fine, coleslaw wasn't bad. read more

One of our favorite spots in Augusta. I never thought you could find such great BBQ in Maine. We are such huge fans we used Riverfront as our caterers for our wedding. One of my must-visit spots during a stay in my hometown. The food is fantastic. Great pulled pork (available by the pound if you want to bring some home/bring to an event), homeade jalapeno cornbread and other delicious treats. I am a huge fan of the crab cakes in the appetizer section of the menu as well as the chili (nice and spicy!) I've tried many of the entrees including: the pesto pasta, jerk chicken sandwich, sausage w/mac & cheese and of course the pulled pork w/sides -- baked beans! There are a number of micro-brews on tap and a decent wine list. They recently opened up a "lounge" upstairs called "The Gin Mill". It is super nice with a lofty feel, leather couches, brick walls and a great big bar. As far as I know, it is only open on Fri & Sat. nights. Definitely a great place to grab a bite & brew if you are in the capital city. read more

My husband got the seafood jambalaya, the flavor was nice & spicy. It came with a crabcake on top that seemed to be more filler than crabmeat & was slightly over fried. The cons: The side dish of vegetables is boiled zucchini, yellow squash, carrots and sliced pickles. I like all of these separately but not together. And boiled. The hush puppies are dense and hard. No one give attention to us when we get in to the restaurant and like in 5 minutes a guy serving food to upstairs asked us if we wanted to sit. We sat and ordered barbecue chicken and steak. Yum! We stopped here for lunch one day on our travels through Maine. My group tried the jerk chicken sandwich, Caribbean shrimp wrap, chicken caesar salad, garlic pasta with shrimp, and something else I'm forgetting -- we were all very pleased with our meals (see pics). Everything was very fresh, tender and very tasty. The restaurant and bathrooms were both clean. Our waitress was very friendly, attentive and helpful, and the service was fast. If you want to spice up your meal, they have a wall rack of hot sauces to choose from. Good atmosphere - a nice space with a small bar, high ceilings and tasteful decor. We popped into here for quick takeout while having to go to Augusta and after reading reviews we were excited to try Riverfront. The portion size of our takeout was just ok but what really was a bummer was that our pulled pork was cold in some areas. Not just cool but refrigerator cold. I can't say much about the rest of the food because after that bite I stopped eating. The kids meals were just ok. My daughters buttered pasta was swimming in butter and for me I'd be fine with that because I love butter, but she wasn't too happy. We won't be back, sadly. read more

She came back out and said, "They're just finishing it up." 15 minutes later, food still not served. Manager was nearby, so I told him what was going on. Very disappointed. I have been there before and was super happy. Portions where amazing! So today for my birthday I order 3 of the $35 dollar samplers and the portion size compared to a $20 meal is crazy small. You only get 4 ounces of pulled meat whether it is the brisket, pork or chicken. I called to complain and the acting manager said "I don't know what you are expecting ". I lived down South for 35 years so I know my 'que and this is some damn good 'que. I had the brisket which was delicious, the coleslaw was perfect and the pickles (of all things!) were incredible. Then we ordered dessert...I order the flourless chocolate cake and took most of it home. Took another 3 days to finish it off - just about the best I've ever had - truly chocolately and fresh whipped cream, too! The only reason I don't give this restaurant five stars is because we waited a very long time at each checkpoint - 30 minutes to be seated, 15 minutes before our order was taken.
