I have struggled to find a BBQ restaurant that meets my Texan expectations and it's an hour+ away from home. My husband suggested Riverfront - and we have officially found our new date night spot. Walking in, I instantly like what I see. The tables were all packed, so be prepared for a wait. The wall decor has a musical theme - Elvis (my personal favorite) and jazz, from what I can remember. The bar is decorated with chili pepper lights (which I use on my christmas tree at home) with the traditional Mexican tin/metal decorations popping out here and there. The margaritas were PERFECT. The bartender was a master at her craft - forget the margaritas you've had anywhere else, these were the real deal. Fresh squeezed citrus, perfectly combined ingredients... hallelujah. Texans are serious about their brisket - it's how I judge every BBQ place I go to eat (and the reason I do not like many in Maine) Naturally, I ordered the brisket plate, with beans, fries and served on cornbread. If you are looking for gigantic portion sizes, you won't be pleased. However, if you are looking for reasonable, healthy sizes, this place is perfect. Both my husband and myself had exactly the amount of food we needed, with perfect proportions (as in not 90% fries and 10% everything else). Good BBQ doesn't need sauce, so I can't judge how theirs was. I think it tasted just fine the way it was, and I know I'll be back. read more

This place does awesome BBQ. I go through nearly a whole bottle of their own sauce on my pulled pork. It rocks! Also: my wife and really like their asian salad with Cajun broiled haddock. So good... read more

My husband enjoyed his BBQ pulled chicken and brisket. It was tender and juicy. Their fries are outrageous. I am not usually a fan of shoestring but these were outstanding. I had the Shrimp and Sausage Jambalaya. It was really yummy and spicy. It came with cornbread that was perfect. I did not care for the Maine crab cake that was on top of the Jambalaya. In fact, I had to ask what is was because I couldn't tell by the taste. We did have a dessert of Kit kat cheesecake. It was Ok but not enough flavor to really taste the Kit Kat. Could of used more of the homemade whip cream. We would go back if in the area again. read more

We are in Augusta quite often doing research at the State Archives and usually get done about noon, we live about an hour away so we want lunch before heading home, there are several places we go but none remarkable until now. We found the food to be great, I got the pulled pork sandwich and it was the best I have had in years they don't put much sauce on the sandwich and there's a bottle on the table so you can have as much or little as you like, my wife got the chili and it was made with pork which she really enjoyed and it has a nice little snap to it. It also came with a Jalapeno cornbread which was fantastic, They also have a nice choice of ales on draft which just makes my lunch perfect. We will definitely return next time we are down!! read more

Just passing through and decided to stop here for lunch! Sleepy town, but amazing BBQ! Enjoyed good craft brews and BBQ sandwich platters-- awesome corn bread and beans! Would definitely recommend this spot! read more

The food is always very good here. The ribs are great! I like the BBQ sauce but am used to having sever options including mustard and vinegar based sauces which if they made them available would surely be great. I've had all the meats, some of the appetizers, and a few of the specials and they are all thoughtfully played with a complementing side and well executed. Pretty good beer selection but their upstairs bar has a better one. read more

Came here from CT with friends after seeing that it's one of the only places in Augusta that doesn't have picnic table seating or a neon sign. They had a dining room and the food was absolutely great! We have had BBQ down south and this was totally up to par with a renowned bbq place. Our server Alicia was super friendly, patient and a pleasant part of our experience. I was sad we came on a weekday when the lounge part of the restaurant with the most beers on tap was closed and the only constructive criticism I have is that the dining room needs some decor! It felt I inviting. Would have loved to see some pics on the wall or some colorful paint. read more

Six thumbs up! Just spectacular food. The pulled pork was THE BEST. We had to order another side of it, it was so good. Dessert was deep fried cornbread topped with strawberries and whipped cream. YUM. Service was great, and I thought the price was reasonable. Highly recommend! read more

The real deal, folks, from the melt-off-the-bone ribs to the lush pulled pork and perfect slaw. Nice touch: great slabs of grilled corn bread. From now on will time my visits to Augusta to coincide with lunch or dinner! read more

Best chilli and jalap corn bread. Jambalaya is so good and huge portions! Last time I ordered my chilli to go n had the jambalaya for my meal with a beer great place to go local for BBQ. Boyfriend gets their ribs n they fall off the bone every time! read more

Food's OK (with the 'for Maine' caveat...in the context of what's available locally). If you've never eaten at the Rendezvous in Memphis, this is pretty good BBQ. What drove me to write this review was the terrible service. It's pretty clear to see why all of the dinner business at 7:30 on a Friday night was in nearby Hallowell. Pushy waitress trying to hurry our menu selection; giving us the bum's rush out the door. Clearing napkins while you're still sitting there is a pretty clear message. I can only imagine how the paying customers at the other table felt when they were the last ones there. Owner: WARNING: Your staff is trying to kill your business! read more

First time experience was great. Waitstaff friendly and personable. Food was excellent. My company said best BBQ since Texas and Tennessee. Recommend the Brisket, beans and hush puppies. read more

We have just finished eating here...skip it! As BBQ lovers, we were extremely disappointed. The ribs were very dry and seemed as if they were cooked days ago and heated up. The pulled pork was ok but not enough flavor. The cornbread was good, but skip the baked beans. My little girl's mac and cheese was terrible, and she will eat any mac and cheese! We felt as though we would have had better BBQ at the Texas Roadhouse! read more

This is the best barbecued pork in the state! I get the platter with beans and coleslaw nearly every time. I recommend the cornbread, too. I eat half and take the rest home for another meal. The house made BBQ sauce is my favorite. The service is excellent even when they're busy. Enjoy, my friends! Get yourself here for some awesome food! read more

Brisket is the best!!! I have celiac and I would give a 5 star if they could make a gf corn bread because I feel so deprived when I go there and face to watch everyone else eat cornbread. Cool environment read more

Husband, brother-in-law and I went for the first time last week to try something different. Service was less than desired. Our waitress was only at our table twice. The hostess came around more to check on us than she did. Props to that girl. Sausage and chicken gumbo was ok. Ribs were super dry and tough. Was not impressed enough to want to go back again. read more

This place serves really good food. I love their Caesar salad with a filet of blackened haddock on top. It's delicious. If all of Augusta's downtown was on the par of this place, it would be an awesome stretch. As it stands however, it is the only reason to go downtown Augusta. Well, that's something, anyway. Oh, my husband loves their Barbeque sauce. He nearly empties an entire bottle on their pulled pork and cornbread. read more

We visited Riverfront on a Sunday a little after 12 noon and we were the only patrons in the restaurant for about 30 minutes. The hostess/waitress came over right away. I ordered the pulled pork over cornbread (the other option was on a bun) and a side of fries; however, they had a problem with the fryer so I opted for cole slaw (which was probably a healthier option). The pulled pork was tender and very tasty. The sauce was the right consistency between sweet and tangy. The cornbread was EXCELLENT. I was so glad I chose that over a bun. I've had better cole slaw but it wasn't bad. My husband chose a salad with the smoked chicken. He thought it was OK but would have preferred the chicken be warm/hot but it was ice cold. I would definitely return, my husband is on the fence which is why I would give the a 3 star rating. I think if he had selected a BBQ item, he would have been more satisfied. Their prices are very reasonable. read more

This establishment in a riverfront warehouse even impressed my 17-year old son. Everything about our visit was top shelf.

Pretty amazing that I can get better BBQ in Maine then Virginia go figure. The corn bread is awesome some of the best I have ever had. The baked beans were well done and had a good flavor. I had the pulled pork and shredded brisket platter portion size was not and issue for the price the meal was awesome. Pork and brisket were done well they were flavorful and done well. Smoke flavor was excellent no sauce in the meat the choice of hot sauces is excellent and the home made BBQ sauce was above average. The atmosphere is nice the acoustics not so good big room noises travel and loud echoes a little annoying. Service was fast however thought it was kind of fake just something about it didn't impress. I would say this could do easily been 5 stars if not for a couple of things. I will say the food was definitely 5 stars. I would recommend trying it if you like BBQ and your in the area. read more

My third visit to Riverfront. I went with the pulled pork over corn bread with rice and beans sides. As with my prior two visits I was not disappointed. Every meal I have had has been perfectly prepared. Wait staff was professional, courteous and attentive. The menu is not extensive, but it is diverse. The restaurant is clean and we'll lit. If you have the chance to stop in, be sure and take it. Well done Riverfront ! Who would expect such great BBQ in a state so well known for seafood. read more

My burger was great and my co-workers enjoyed their meals too. Awesome fries. The order taking was a bit slow, especially since there were only 3 other tables seated when the 4 of us came in, but the refills and check came quick. Nice area of town, and the place was clean. I'd eat there again. read more

Was starving as we drove around looking for something to eat and found this place. The beer choice was great and I can not stop raving about the ceaser salad and the alfredo penne paata with the smoked sauage. Excellent! The service was great and friendly. I'll probably never be back in this part of the country again, but hope all of you looking for a great meal in Augusta will try this place out! read more

Just had THE MOST FANTASTIC ribs for dinner! Perfectly seasoned with a great rub, not dripping in sauce. They have all kinds of sauce that you can add, but I definitely recommend trying them without, at least to start. And they understand that if you want something falling off the bone, you'd order pulled pork or, hey, pot roast, right? Anyway, theirs are just perfect. And, trying to do the low carb thing these days, I ordered double vegetables, which were incredible! Grilled, spiced, summer squash, red peppers, carrots, and onions - I didn't feel even slightly deprived. Dinners come with two excellent sides. A half-rack is plenty for all but the most huge appetites. Service was fast, friendly, and non-intrusive. Riverfront just became one of our favorite places to eat! And Haley, our server, is tops on our list for professional servers - the best, and very informative. read more

The service was excellent. The food was very delicious and flavorful. We felt like we were sitting in Memphis. The atmosphere is inviting and comfortable. And the barbecue was tasteful read more

Best BBQ ribs I've ever had. Up from NYC for camp visiting weekend and discovered this gem. Showed up with 9 people unannounced. Food was amazing, service was friendly. My 6 yr old, who is a picky eater, ordered the pulled chicken off of the kids menu and devoured the entire plate. Run, don't walk!! read more

Unbelievable BBQ and I am from the south. Great service too! Next time you are in Augusta, it's a great place to stop.

We dined here for the first time last night. We were warmly welcomed and seated promptly. Our food was fresh, wonderfully presented, and flavored perfectly. We could not have asked for a better dining experience! read more

Some of Maine's best BBQ. Maine is not known for BBQ, but this place rocks. My favorite menu item is their jalepeno cornbread - it is not spicy, but has a slight tang. It's very good! For those who indulge there is a good selection of beer. read more

On our way up to my mother in laws we decided to stop for food in Augusta. Looking for a non corporate atmosphere and seeing good reviews online we decided to give riverfront a shot. Walking up to the building the smell is overwhelming. Loving bbq we were excited the second we stepped out of he car. We walked in and headed to the bar. We were greeted immediately by what seemed to be a 16 yr old boy? He was friendly but not knowledgeable whatsoever. When I asked what a certain beer was I was told it was in between a dark and a light. Working for a brewery myself I was puzzled by this answer. I decided a glass of wine was a smarter choice. Still the restaurant smelled amazing. We asked a server if the ribs and wings were great. She of course said yes. We added on two house salads (a bunch of romaine with some canned oranges and a few onions for $4.99). The wings we expected to be smoked, instead they were rubbery and salty. The ribs were burnt, dry and cold. We were thoroughly disappointed when I saw the "bartender" fresh squeezing drinks. Finally being excited about something I was told they don't fresh squeeze their margaritas however their Stoli lemonades are freshly squeezed. Apparently fresh is two squirts of lemon and minute made powder they label "bar dust". Working in the restaurant business I always try to give credit where it is due... But I just can't here. Horrendously overpriced. I wish we had just gone to Applebee's. Now I know why it was dead on a Friday night. read more
