As another recent reviewer wrote, this group is fine if there's nothing wrong with your pet. If your pet could be truly ill, you won't find appropriate treatment or support here. Over five appointments, my kitten was seen by three different (and young) vets. During the first four office visits, no attempt at what in hindsight seems like would have been a rational examination or diagnosis was made. There was no continuity of care and no interest in thorough evaluation. Just lots of my money being spent. My newly adopted kitten was drooling and developing an increasingly foul odor in his mouth. (1 and 2) The first two times I flagged this with the vets, I was told he was "just teething" - although neither of the vets that "diagnosed" this had bothered to look inside his mouth. (3) A couple of weeks later, I noticed that he had an ulcer on the roof his mouth, immediately made a third appointment and got an antibiotic. (4) During the follow-up appointment, I was told everything is fine. (5) Within a week, the kitten was increasingly smelly again. During our fifth appointment, a vet finally actually examined the inside of his mouth and gums. She told me he has an auto-immune disease that makes him allergic to the plaque on his teeth - which might make sense if he'd had his teeth for five or six years instead of just five or six weeks. He's a baby; there's no plaque on brand-new teeth. She also left with me without reasonable recommendations for next steps; she was like a deer in headlights. Although my kitten's condition still hasn't been diagnosed, I'm grateful - and feel confident - that he's now being treated competently and compassionately by Dr John Howell at Yonkers Animal Hospital. This place was very close to me, and I brought my new pup there last week. The staff was extremely helpful and kind, and talked to us for 10-15 mins after all the vaccinations were done, just to answer questions and offer training advice. read more

About three months ago I bought my lovely cavalier home. I was sure that I wanted her to get the best care available in the area. I wanted to find a vet that I could openly communicate with and for her to properly educate me on my dogs health. We just finished her last set of puppy shots, and I can say that our experiences were perfect. The wait time was always fast and speedy and everyone in the office is knowledgable. The vet techs were always nice and very loving towards my pup. Dr. Emmerich herself is nothing but loving and sweet, she's very knowledgable and always remembers the services she provided for my puppy. Overall, a wonderful office and vet experience. read more

We got a puppy about 5 months ago and were looking for a reputable veterinarian. This came up on our search with some great reviews. We brought Zeus in when he was about a month and half old for his vaccinations and boosters. We met with Dr. Rosado who is GREAT! The staff is always super helpful and Dr. Rosado is always listening to our concerns and answering any questions we may have. The location of the vet is a ways off from where we live but it's definitely worth it! It's so comforting to know that our baby is in good hands! read more

My dog has been coming here for 14 years. The vets, technicians and receptionists are very professional and kind people. I've been through different medical situations with my dog. Dr. Rosado, Dr. Fried and Dr. Palmieri always listen to my concerns and explain options before moving forward. My dog got spayed here and had a teeth cleaning. No problems at all. My dog has boarded for 14 years. She LOVES coming and pulls me all the way there. This is not fake. I love my dog. I'm very happy with the quality of medical treatment and compassion shown by the vets and staff. I had another dog who went there for 2-3 years. I highly recommend Riverdale vet group. read more

We started coming here when we moved to Riverdale 10 years ago. It wasn't great as far as a practice, but the vets seemed competent. However, when our housekeeper brought in the wrong cat for a dental cleaning (the cat that was supposed to be cleaned was an orange 11lb male, and they did it anyway (the cat that was cleaned was a grey 6lb female with chronic renal failure), we decided that it was time to go. My current vet (Dr Luckow, .on Broadway) tells me that he didn't need a cleaning anyway. I'm not so much of a fan. read more

My pets have been going to Riverdale Veterinary Group for many years now. Dr. Fried is such a nice guy and I've usually requested for my pets to see him whenever possible. The vet techs/assistants are all really friendly as well- which makes going there a pleasant experience for the most part. In recent years however, the prices have become a little too high for me ($300 to neuter a cat? Seriously?) and I have looked into cheaper alternatives for vaccines/neutering etc. However, I found a small stray kitten near my home recently who was very sick and in desperate need of medical attention and I felt this place was the best choice locally --even if it would cost me an arm and a leg. I brought the kitten in to see the vet and was assigned to Dr. Rosado. I was fully expecting to be charged a lot of money for a bunch of tests I didn't need, but Dr. Rosado was extremely professional, friendly, and sympathetic to the situation. He didn't try to talk me into additional tests or charge me for any unnecessary procedures. Although it wasn't exactly a cheap visit, I felt it was very fair given the circumstances and I would gladly return to see Dr. Rosado again. read more

What a lie that the vet said he could be liable for the pet's death, when I checked and found that in NY that malpractise suits are not allowed against vets. A lawyer could best advise on possible alternatives. However, vets and dentists are sanctioned by the state department of education which ahs an office in every NYC borough. The one man vet who heads he practise was preoccupied when I called to complain that his fellow UPenn alumnus neophyte could not and did not diagnose the large sore on a pet's back. I am spending my cellular service to call back while on hold forever, then when he gets on the telephone he keeps talking to someone else intermittently either on another line or in person, so I mentioned this and let him know it was unporfessional. No, I would not recommend Dr, Fried, because he also is not there daily to supervise he operations, when he needs a self-check. The common ignoramus that I refer to was Dr. Toll, who confused Frontline with the heartworm Rx update I requested. I also requested bloodwork on two pets and lab work to diagnose a growth on one pet's chest. It was, she said, a greasy, fatty mass. She should have been "shadowed" by an experienced vet. The staff assigned my pet's to this incompetent blowhard because she liked their particular breed. Mind you, she had already ordered over $800 in tests before I asked for any of the above. The got almost $1200.00USD by the time we left. I had to call back for more heartworm, so as to not go back anytime soon, since the one box we got was misplaced. This was not an illegal request, but staffer named Joshua kept harping about how often clients overmedicate pets whch I was not doing, and I had to shout that to him several times to never waste my time about other people's foibles repeatedy. When he put Dr. Toll on the telephone, she greeted me, then left the line, saying nothing when I tried to complain to her about his non-service. I had to call back for Dr. Trujillo (the only vet there who did not attend UPenn) to get the Rx needed. Dr. Trujillo is a great vet, and I told her that she was our preference fro the start, but she is not there everyday. At least she makes the effort to explain her assessment of the pet's needs in a clear diagnosis, not convoluted double talk. Sadly, the pet with the sore (over $700.00USD total fees) died less than three months later, undiagnosed. One of the other pets is now in a vet hospital fighting for its life, because recent heavy breathing indicated an enlarged heart and bloodwork repeated there indicated anemia that was present for months. We paid almost $1000.00USD today to get critical care that RVG overlooked. None of this is slander -"just the facts ma'am." read more

Really didn't want to leave this as it's obviously my dogs vet but I was so disappointed the last time I went in. Which was a month ago. And unfortunately I've waited this whole time for a response for my dogs fungal culture. I would've hoped that the fact that I was waiting for a "yes or no" in something that could possibly be ring worm would be enough but not at all. I called two week after my appt. as asked. Then today when another two weeks passed and nothing. Thankfully she didn't have ring worm because I'm not sure what my reaction would've been like. $200 later, I'm upset. read more

I don't wish this vet group anyone. The receptionists are surly and rude.The doctors don't listen and don't seem to care. Their incompetence and misdiagnosing will probably result in the shortening by several years of my beloved dog's life. Do your research before going to this vet. They insist on performing services your pet might or might not need. A pet owner always wants the best for their pet and it is easy to be guilted into getting a test or a shot you might not need at all. Be aware also that they mark up the supplies to about 300% of what you would pay on your own. I've paid for food supplements for cats that amazon sells for a third of the cost. It's ok for a business to make money, but there is reasonable and then there is being ripped off. Cat neutering is $300, for example. Way too expensive. read more

I had a very unfavorable visit there 2 weeks ago. I brought my dachshund in to be groomed. After waiting 25 minutes past the appointment time, the groomer came to get her. After waiting 20 minutes past her expected return, my girl was returned to me. The groomer said she gave her a bath and only needed to trim her dew claws. My girl couldn't wait to leave and after paying a hefty charge, we left in our van. When we got home, and I opened the car door, there was blood on the back seat, on her dog bed, and on the car tether. My girl wouldn't let me look at her paws. When I called the office to find out what happened, after 5 phone calls, the groomer said she didn't notice any blood, after she groomed her. I subsequently spoke to the Office Manager, who said that maybe she was cut accidentally. I told him that I understand accidents can happen, but if an accident happened they should have informed me. I was told that I would get a return call, to discuss the matter, which never occurred. When I called 3 days later to ask for my dog's medical records as I would be bringing her to a new vet, I was again told that someone would reach out to me. It's been 2 weeks AND I have yet to receive a phone call. NO ONE from the Riverdale Vet Group has reached out to me. Soooo disappointed. Will never go back there!!!!!!! read more

I brought my cat, Archie, in in November. Shortly after moving to the area, he began having "elimination problems" (ie. he was peeing all over the couch). The vet insisted on doing extensive blood tests and charged me an arm and a leg. I know that the tests were necessary to rule out a medical problem, but they seemed to be too busy to even care about getting back to me. They told me that results would be in and they would call me. Two days after they told me they would call, I called them and left a message for the doctor. A full day later, he finally called me back and said there was nothing "very" wrong with his tests but that I should bring Archie back to be tested again "just in case." I couldn't do that to him or my wallet, so we failed to return. After $500.00 in vet bills, I bought a pack of five drop cloths for $5.00 and covered the couch. There have been zero problems since then. Perhaps that should have been the first step before spending buttloads of money, Riverdale Vet Group. read more

The service is expensive, but they are thorough. In an emergency situation, one vet even drove my pet in her personal automobile to a specialty hospital to save his life. Because they spend as much time as needed with each pet, they run behind on appointments -- sometimes as much as an hour! Recommend that you book an early AM appointment if you do not like to schmooze with other pet owners in the waiting area. Or take an appointment on Sunday. Their office hours are extended and they always seem to fit me in on days and times when the wait is not too bad. read more

I brought one of my gerbils here because she had what turned out to be a mild eye infection. The staff was VERY nice and seemed to actually care about my pet - most of the time people scoff and tell me "it's JUST a gerbil!" when I talk about them, but I could tell that they took my love of my pet seriously. The wait wasn't too terrible, maybe ten minutes later than my appointment time, but she was a new pet and they had to do all the processing on her and what not. The doctor was very gentle with her and friendly to me. He gave me some tips on how to better take care of them, and told me it seems like I'm doing a great job. My ONLY critique is that it was a wee bit expensive - 30 for eye drops and a 65 dollar visit. But honestly, it was so close to home (finding an exotic vet in the bronx is a pain) and it was the cheapest of the research I did. I plan on taking my cat back there soon. read more

The staff is unfriendly and unpleasant. Last year i brought in my dog, because i was worried about a lump on her abdomen. The vet, said it was nothing. Luckilly, i took her to a professional animal hospital, who took a biopsy and the lump was a mass cell tumor. Luckilly, we caught it before it spread, but if we would have listened to the vet at riverdale veterinary group, the tumor would have spread, and it would have been to late to operate. I made an appointment telling the receptionist that my dog has pneumonia and a respiratory infection. The records where my dog was hospitalized 2 weeks ago was sent to riverdale before his appointment. I asked the receptionist can they help him. She told me yes. I went to appointment and was told that he needed to go back to the hospital that they couldn't see him because he had a respiratory infection. I paid $169 for 15 minutes of my dog being seen. The people were nice but why would you make an appointment to see my dog when I told you what the hospital diagnosed him with so I can then go to an appointment and be told that they don't treat that. I definitely feel cheated and wasted my time. read more

I visited the clinic a few weeks ago with my cat. I brought her in because she had been having trouble with her anal glands. They were swollen/inflamed and needed to be expressed. When I called to make the appointment, I made it clear that my pet needed to be sedated for her examination because she is very scared of strangers. When I arrived, they took us into the examining room and proceeded to try and examine her without sedation. As expected, my pet reacted very violently and was later described in her medical report as "very aggressive," by the vet, Jennifer Emmerich. The veterinarian tried to get a look at my pet's rear end while her assistant restrained my cat. Obviously, my cat was trying to free herself - I do not believe that the veterinarian took a good look. Jennifer Emmerich told us that my cat's anal glands were fine and that it was dark because of her excessive licking. Although I was not convinced, I just wanted my cat to get better. During the "examination," my cat peed (again, she was very scared) and the assistant collected a sample to be sent to the lab because the vet said, "she might have an UTI." We were sent home with antibiotics and pain medication. My cat continued licking her rear end and scooting excessively. Needless to say, I was provided us with an inaccurate diagnosis that caused my cat unnecessary pain and distress. When I called to inquire about her urinalysis results, I was told what I already knew, the test came back negative for an UTI. The medication that I was given provided absolutely no relief for her. The day that my pet and I visited the clinic, she did not need antibiotics, she needed to be sedated to be able to get a thorough examination. Due to the veterinarian's negligence, my cat only got worse. If my pet was a human, this would be handled as a malpractice case. I am not trying to be complicated but as someone who loves her pet very much, and is exceptionally sensitive to her needs and well-being, this situation is unacceptable and deplorable. I am appalled by the way that the veterinarian handled my pet's case and her lack of care. If I had been informed that she was not going to be sedated - even after letting them know that she needed to be sedated - I would have taken her somewhere else. I wanted my cat to be comfortable, instead she ended up being stressed, scared, traumatized and inaccurately labeled as "very aggressive." I called the clinic Saturday, March 24th to inform them of my cat's condition. I was told that she could not be seen that day because there is no sedation done during the weekend. I was assured that the veterinarian who saw my cat would personally call me the next day, Sunday, to let me know if I could bring her in that day or Monday. To my dismay, Jennifer Emmerich did not call me personally on Sunday. When I inquired about bringing her in, I was told that my cat could not be seen that same day. I would have to wait until Tuesday morning. Once again, if my cat was a human, this would not be acceptable. As it is expected, I am absolutely disgusted by the lack of professionalism and care from Jennifer Emmerich towards the entire situation. As a result, I do not want her to see or touch my pet again. I feel sorry that I did not have a positive experience as I was looking forward to one. I need to make sure that everyone knows about this and understand the gravity of this situation. My cat can't talk, and as her owner, I am responsible for her well-being and safety. I cannot condone Jennifers behavior and hope I never see her again. I felt that as a result, we deserved an apology and a full refund as Misty was taken to another vet and I had to pay more money for her to be treated properly. I emailed the clinic and called them regarding my request and I never got a reply back through email or by phone. I am so appalled and in disbelief. I cannot belief that this clinic cares more about more than they well-being of pets. Absolutely appalling. read more

The office is very clean, The surgery was very good and my cat was back to herself after a spay within a day. BUT - we called for a price and were given a ballpark of 450-550 for this service. It came to almost 800 by the end. I frankly think this is a reason not go back or recommend this office. The doctors and aides of Riverdale Veterinary Group took excellent care of my 18+ year-old cat Lucy as she entered her last months due to renal failure. I was instructed on how to administer subcutaneous fluids to her at home. I also brought her back a number of times when, during her last month of life, I grew increasingly concerned about her failing health. I was given advice, and medicines, but of course the inevitable, very difficult day came when, on July 27, 2019, she had to be put to sleep just thirteen days short of her 19th birthday. I cite here Josh, Jay, and doctors Emmerich and Gad as among the many who who did their professional best, in a most humane way, to ease Lucy's suffering. When Jay picked up Lucy to have her weighed and examined a few weeks ago, she used the kind of tender handling and sweet words one would give to a human infant, and it touched me deeply. She also comforted me when I had to sign Lucy's euthanasia papers: one of the saddest moments of my life. I guess everyone has a different experience with the different needs of their particular pet, but I feel that Lucy was given the best possible treatment at that late, irreversible stage of her life, and for that I am grateful to the RVG. I would like to praise the entire staff at Riverdale Veterinary Group. I had to put my Rat Terrier, Stallion, to sleep today and everyone was so wonderful and understanding. They gave us time with him before and after the procedure. We were never rushed and the staff was very accommodating during this difficult time. In the past, I had very positive experiences using the Riverdale Veterinary Group. They were willing to see my cat and I on short notice and I found all the staff I encountered to be both professional and compassionate. Recently, when I found out that my little love was terminally ill Dr. Fried and the other staff members helped make a painful time less difficult. I scheduled my first appointment with Dr. Fried at the Riverdale Veterinary Group a week prior for a 1/2/15 appointment at 4:00pm. Today 12/30/14 I received a call from someone in his group saying that Dr. Fried would not be there due to a change in his schedule, that I should call back to reschedule for an earlier time that day. When I called to reschedule for an earlier time, the guy I spoke to said that he could give me a 1:00pm appointment because the dr. has a 1:15pm appointment already booked, and his last appointment is at 1:30pm that day. Really, my appointment was for two dogs, was the dr. only going to grant me 71/2 minuets for each dog. I am not looking for a vet that basis his practice and work ethic on seeing his clients dogs as if it were an assembly line with a window of 5 to 7 minuets upon which to complete the work. We the clients Dr. Fried, want the best possible care for our animals and the attention they deserve, and we the owners are paying for. So even before setting my foot in the door, I know that this Riverdale Veterinary Group is not the sort of place were my dogs would receive the care and attention they deserve and we the owners would hope to get for them. Dr. Fried is by far the best exotic vet in town. He takes such good care of my hamsters and my lizzards when they were alive. He is kind and really knows his exotics. I would not take my guys anywhere else. If you want really good vet care, this is the place to go. read more

I typically don't write reviews. I am an animal lover and am only doing this for your pets:) This place is absolutely horrendous. Thankfully we had pretty healthy animals so we only went here in a pinch. They are unorganized, not punctual and unapologetic for it. We took our cat here because she was losing weight. They did a full blood panel and came back with hyperthyroidism. They advised us to give medication once a day. We did that and she became really sluggish and not herself. So we started every other day which they said was fine. Sadly she became very ill. We knew immediately we would not take her back to RVG as we wanted "special care and attention" to our sick kitty. We took her to another vet who was so amazing. We didn't mind driving to Tarrytown for a quality vet. He ran her blood work and said she didn't not have hyperthyroidism and even if she did giving that dosage of medication every other day was pointless and ineffective. She was diagnosed with cancer and we were referred to an animal hospital in Yonkers who was also amazing. Throughout the chemo process, we kept making them check her thyroid levels to make sure she didn't need thyroid medicine. Throughout this 6 month process, from 2 different vets, and dozens of blood test, SHE DID NOT NEED THAT MEDICATION that we forced down her throat. It makes me so mad that these idiots do this to people. Every time they talked us into all these useless tests and upsold the heck out of us. The things we do for our pets. Financially we were willing to spend whatever for our pets, but I know there are many who can't. It's not right what they are doing to their patients. Think twice before coming here. They will either bankrupt you or do harm to your beloved pet with useless medication and extra lab work. read more

STAY AWAY! I brought my rescued dog here. I had a certificate from animal control that the first visit was free. The office said they accept certificates. My dog was coughing so hard he was vomiting. They said he had kennel cough and sent him home with three pills. They never ran any tests. The next day he was worse so I went to a different vet. They ran tests and he has pneumonia. He is now on an iv and has to be fed liquid food. They were surprised that the riverdale veterinary group never ran tests to make sure it wasn't anything more serious than kennel cough. This is the second animal I've brought here that riverdale veterinary group was less concerned about than their money. This veterinary group is run as a business. They want their money regardless of the care of your pet. STAY AWAY! read more

Overall, my experiences here were quite positive. I would have preferred to have just one veterinarian instead of the system of taking whoever is available, but that said, I had a good experience with all of the vets I saw. Dr. Toll and Dr. Fried were my favorites. Overall, I felt like everyone with whom I interacted was compassionate and caring--for both me and my cat, who ultimately died of cancer that the vet (Dr. Toll) truthfully told me was not treatable. The night I decided it was time to euthanize my cat, they squeezed me in at the last moment, and I did not feel at all rushed to leave. Yes, it was expensive, but in all my years of pet ownership, I've yet to find a vet that is not expensive. I believe that is just the nature of veterinary care. read more

This vet killed my dog, who went in for teeth cleaning. In the aftermath of the surgery, they ignored our pleas for help and told us he would "get better." He is at rest, no thanks to the vets. I am amazed they are still allowed to practice. read more

The doctors and Vet Techs are very good and the only reason I return.The administrative staff leaves a lot to be desired. Even the most simple tasks like checking a pet in or getting meds is a frustrating and time consuming experience. I recently called to fill another prescription for my dog. He is on this medication for life and they keep giving me 2 or 3 week supplies. I asked for a 2 month supply and they told me if there is any issue with that the Doctor would be in touch. The next day I called 10 minutes before I arrived to pick up the medication asking the invoice be ready, knowing how slow they move. The invoice wasn't ready and the meds were not up front either. The icing on the cake another 2 week supply. read more

I started using Riverdale Vet Group about a year ago when I moved to the neighborhood -- it's pretty easy to get an appointment, the staff is friendly and helpful, and they've provided great care for my kitties. It's a little expensive, but I'm happy to pay a little more for care I can count on. They do accept care credit. I've met two of the staff vets (Fried and Rosado) and they're both knowledgeable and kind. My only complaint with them has been that I almost always wait quite a bit for my appointment. read more

Well I must say that aside from not being organized I would not trust them with my pet. Last year in august 2007 the riverdale press released this head line "Riverdale vet group lost a dog". Yes your reading right. They had a maltese boarding at there hospital and when the O came to pick up the pet the manager Chris they named had said he did not know where the pet was. The dod was boarding there for 2 weeks and they did not know what happened to it. That is by far the worst thing for and Owner. Not to mention the tech staff is not liscensed and they do things like monitor anesthsia etc. scarry I would not have a nurse touch me if they were not licensed. read more
