Lack of professionalism, cleanliness and decorum. I arrived early for my extraction appointment. I asked to use the restroom but was told there was no paper and the receptionist had to wait for the dentist to finish with her patient so she could access the toilet paper. Fifteen minutes later ( fortunately my needs were due to nerves rather than urgency ) the dentist appeared. She came out with a roll of toilet paper and with her bare hands proceeded to roll off sheets of paper for me. I left the paper and her office. I will never return. I am a senior citizen perfectly able to take care of my paper needs and to hand me crumbled paper with her bare hands was not only insulting it was also a testimony to her lack of hygiene. read more

The first time they didn't tell me that it was only a consult when I was supposed to have my wisdom tooth removed. You have to wait 1 hour for an appointment. Dr. Oana is skilled, gentle, and kind! I had all four wisdom teeth removed which were all impacted in 30 minutes. She is amazing, walks you through every step of the way of what she's doing, if you feel any pain she asks you to tell her. I got the local anesthesia which at first I was nervous about because the noise of their tools really scares me, but she is very soothing which made my nerves go away. By having local anesthesia and not being drugged on pain killers, I did not have any pain only swelling which shocked me (keep in mind everyone heals differently). I was prescribed pain medication to which I have only used once. I cannot begin to emphasize how amazing she is at her job!!! I will be recommending all my relatives in the area to go to her!!!! Her staff (specifically Miguel) is very polite and kind! From calling to make an appointment, getting my out of pocket price, and going in for my oral surgery - everything was so smooth. Miguel followed up after my surgery to ensure I was feeling well. This is not something you encounter often and I am so appreciative of it. Dr. Oana is a remarkable Oral Surgeon. I did not experience any discomfort, not even the injection. Dr. Oana completed an extraction and triple bone graft before I even realized she had begun. I had a wonderful experience from beginning to end! Dr. Oana and her team are absolutely the best there is. They are welcoming, hospitable, friendly, accommodating, caring and attentive. It was beyond what I could have ever asked for. I had a tooth extracted the day before Thanksgiving. Though that sounds like a nightmare, it was the exact opposite. Surgery was done with 15mins or what felt like 15mins and my pain was minimal to nonexistent. **Please note every patient is different and the rate at which you heal is specific to each individual. ** However, I wholeheartedly believe that my speedy recovery is a direct reflection on Dr. Oana's work. She is extremely humble but has every right to boast about how great she is. She'd never, so I will... YOU ARE AWESOME! I went to see Dr. Oana last year to have a tooth extracted. She charged me a reasonable amount, $400, which she said was the discounted rate. I willingly paid this amount. The extraction went well. I phoned Dr. Oana last week because something came out of my mouth which I could not identify. Of course I brought the unidentified piece to her. She had said that I should come in whenever I could that day. When I came in I waited no more than a few minutes. I was ushered into her office and stood and talked to her with the unidentified piece for no more than 2, perhaps 2 1/2 minutes. The piece she identified as part of a crown which she said would be replaced when my tooth was extracted. When I left the office I was told that there would be a charge of $121.50. I had trouble believing that I would be charged $121+ for less than 2 1/2 minutes. I asked to speak with Dr.Oana who met me. I asked Dr. Oana if she would remove the charge for a visit that lasted no more than 2 1/2 minutes. She VERY RUDELY replied that it was what she charged for a consultation. I was struck with a debilitating toothache over the weekend (when it first hit me, I actually had to take a knee). Was finally able to see a dentist this morning, and he told me I had an infection, and sent me straight over to Dr. Oana's office. They took me immediately as an emergency patient and worked with my woefully disorganized self (forgot my wallet and didn't have hard copies of anything). They were attentive to my needs, and clearly cared about my situation. Dr. Oana actually seemed as disappointed as I was that my tooth couldn't be saved. Local anesthetic sometimes don't work so well with me, and Dr. Oana took that under consideration. The whole extraction procedure lasted maybe 20 minutes from the time I sat down in the chair, and I am still astounded by how painless it was. Dr. Oana was also very attentive to any pain I might have been experiencing (there wasn't any, I'm just a little noisy), and talked to and reassured me through the whole thing. This whole situation could have been so much worse and I am SO GRATEFUL to Dr. Oana and her team for making it a best-case scenario. read more

Dr. Oana is the best oral surgeon in the world! She's not just a great doctor, she's personable and very pleasant, which doesn't take anything away from her direct approach when discussing procedures. She's not wishy-washy​ when it comes to that and I really appreciate it. She's a consummate professional. I don't know where she learned the techniques that she implements but as someone who's had multiple dental procedures, I sit in her chair without flinching, and with no fear. I completely​​ trust her! How does she manage to administer novacaine without my barely feeling it or without my feeling it at all!!?? Furthermore, she's pulled teeth without my even realizing they were out, lol! I love Dr. Oana! Since I have recurring issues with my teeth and I'm moving from New York to the South, I'll probably fly back just to see her. The facility is clean and modern, and the check in process is fairly easy. It's not overly crowded like most offices that take walk in extractions. I arrived at about 9 am and was finished and out the door by 11. The only downside is the doctor who pulled my tooth told me to "keep my emotions in check" TWICE when I made noise. This was insensitive considering the fact that I am in my first trimester of pregnancy and could not be put to sleep. If she had slowed down and not been in a rush to stab me with those huge numbing needles it could have been better. read more

I had a dental emergency during a vacation and needed someone urgently. My wife called all the oral surgeons in the UFT dental guide that were within a 50 mile radius of our home. Most of the calls went to voice mail and others said to come the following week. Dr. Oana was out of the country and took the call. She told my wife that she was out of the country but that she would be back in the US the next day and said for me to go there at 9 am. I was there before the office opened. The official hours were after 8:30. Dr. Oana arrived at 8 am and immediately took me in and did the emergency procedure. I wasn't even a patient! This was the first time I had ever met the woman and she treated me with great care, as if I was a long time patient. Last week I had another situation, once again Dr. Oana made a break in her schedule to see me the same day. She's not only a professional, but an incredible human being. I've had negative experiences with dental offices who treat patients with little to no care. Thank goodness that I found Dr. Oana by accident. Her office staff (Miguel) followed up on me so that I felt that I truly mattered. There are no perfect places, but in the several encounters I've had with this office, I cannot in all honesty say anything truly negative about this office. Felt my wisdom tooth pain and called at roughly 9:45am, got an appointment for 11:15am. They have a beautiful modern place. They called my boyfriend to let him know that I was ready to go home. Today I had a tooth pulled and I have to say I will NEVER EVER go back. While i was clearly in a lot of pain while having my tooth extracted she told me to stop making so much noise that it was scaring the other patients. Huh?? I really didn't give a crap what other people were feeling when I was the one in the chair, in pain with tears streaming down my face into my ears! Oh sorry don't want to disturb anyone with my agony. I should have been more considerate... Dr. Oana was completely mean to me. It was humiliating. 2 years ago I had an extraction done there and it was a very easy, almost pain free experience which is why I went back this time. So I guess they are only nice to you if you are not uncomfortable or in pain. However it is oral surgery which is never pain free and they should try to be a little more compassionate next time. Dr. Joel M. Friedman and his staff are complete professionals, but also very caring and able. I highly recommend them if you need any difficult dental surgery. I needed a lot, and put it off for years. When I finally decided to go to Dr. Friedman, I couldn't have been more nervous. He put me totally at ease, and they gave me whatever I needed for pain. One time I was so nervous that Dr. Friedman made me go home, calm down, and come back the next day. I can't thank him enough for that. The office is on the ground floor of the Whitehall, very easy to get to by car or by bus. And he accepted my insurance. If you need to, go see these guys - they're great! read more

I have seen Dr. Oana for a few years, she pulled two of my teeth and did three implants over the years and I always felt that I was treated with compassion and warmth. Today, though, she outdid herself. A post on an implant I got a few years ago broke (through no fault of hers) and my dentist could not get the broken piece out. She told me I would probably have to have the implant redone, at great inconvenience and cost. I made an appointment with Dr. Oana and she said that after the dentist called, she called the manufacturer and got a special tool which she thought would work. She managed to get the post out with no pain and inserted a new one. She saved me at least $1000 dollars and a great deal of time and pain. I cannot say enough about her care. Her office staff is as nice as she is and they obviously like working with her. Although I hope I do not have another problem I know, if I do, Dr. Oana is the only oral surgeon I would use. read more

I went to them to have all 4 wisdom teeth extracted (one was impacted). I first had a short consultation with Dr. Oana and she was very friendly and informative. The staff is also very friendly as well. I scheduled the surgery for a few weeks later (after I was really annoying and called to reschedule 3 times - they were nice about it throughout). For the extraction, I opted to use local anesthetics and laughing gas. I was a little nervous but Dr. Oana was very deliberate and communicative throughout the procedure to tell me what she was doing as well as what sensation to expect at every moment and when to expect it. Once I was numbed, if I felt any slight detection of pain, I just indicated as such and she gave me a little more novocaine in that area - I liked that approach a lot in that I only received the minimum amount of novocaine necessary (instead of loading me up with more than enough the first time). I was very lucky that my recovery went as smoothly as can be expected. Re the price - my dental and medical insurance (aetna) covered most of the cost - I ended up paying a few hundred bucks out of pocket. I think they billed about 2k to insurance for the whole surgery which I think is not a lot at all. read more

i went to them to have some extractions.. they put me to sleep ...everythin was fine until a few days later when i had horrible pains . they told me they didnt see a reason i should be in pain as if i was a liar . the secretary got smart with me. all they kept makin me do was go in there .. i had pain on one side and they explained in that side the surgery was more complicated and experienced more trauma however they refused to give me more pain medication .. so here i am crying in excrutiating horrible pain my stitches came out my mouth was bleeding yet they say everything looks fine theres no reason i should be in pain .. i dont go anywhere im distracted at work by this pain... thanks alot riverdale oral surgery for lettin me suffer and not caring.!!! read more
