dr james su has absolutely terrible skills in talking with patients. i came in for a consult because i have pain from tmj and concerns about my night guard and one of the first things he said to me, completely unsolicited (i had said nothing about my appearance) was that "a plastic surgeon would tell you to get a nose job and chin implant." he also said that i am not a good candidate for jaw surgery, so there was really no reason to bring up cosmetic issues with my face, since he wasn't offering any solution to either my pain or my cosmetic issues (aside from, i guess a recommendation to plastic surgery, something i had not considered before this appointment). not only was my appointment completely unhelpful with no solutions offered, my experience here has been extremely detrimental to my self esteem. read more

Dr. James Su and the Hygienist provide 4.5 stars service. But the front desk staff and technicians have no clue how to provide quality customer service. Just to prove my point all you'd have to do is call. They answer the phone with No greeting, basically answer it like it's their personal cell phone. I just called and had to ask where I was calling because she answered the phone "hello?" and stopped speaking. That's a shame. Same as with making my appointment, super rude. The day of my appt. while waiting to get an extraction I felt the doom. Energy is understood and they seemed pissed off to be working with people. Thank goodness the dentist is uplifting and has a nice sense of humor. The dental hygienist who assists the dentist also speaks so nicely and rubbed my shoulder when I was nervous. Simply empathetic. Unfortunately, I have to let it be known that the front desk service and technicians have a long way to go and maybe could learn a few things from the dentist and hygienist. If you are afraid of the dentist I would not recommend this place as it will only heighten your anxiety dealing with the front desk service. read more

I have known Dr. Su for over 20 years, both as a referring dentist, and recently as a patient. My patients have always came back raving how wonderful their experience was but now I can certainly put my name on that list. I've always known Dr. Su to be a gifted, caring, ethical Oral Surgeon but I now have seen firsthand how incredibly gentle he is. He completely erases any apprehension one might have. I know that this true gentleman and his wonderful will continue to shatter any preconceptions any patient might have. Needless to say my implant was completely painless, with an excellent result. He truly is outstanding, especially in today's world where there seem to be an abundance of dentists ready to take terrible advantage of their patients in need. read more

I got two of my wisdom teeth removed here! After calling multiple offices with rude staff it was breathtaking to call this office with such lovely staff . They gave me a quick appointment for my consultation.. compared to other offices that took weeks. When I went into my consultation the doctor explained everything that I needed to know to prepare for oral surgery. I have a lot of anxiety and was nervous about doing this procedure but the doctor made me very comfortable. I knew I was in the right hands to get the extractions! The actual oral surgery took 45 minutes perhaps a little less since I was a little loopy due to the happy medicine ... overall I could not have asked for a better experience amazing office staff from the receptionist to the dental assistants! Here's the DL: I had to get my wisdom teeth taken out. I was lazy and waited until they were pretty much grown in and needed to be operated on. So I decided to go local and went to see Dr Su. We set up a consultation, he took a look and said, yep you need to be operated on- the longer you wait, the worse it'll be. Mind you, this is around early December. So, after looking frantically for a time that would work, we settled on December 23rd, at 3pm, the last appointment they had for the year. Yes, I know what you're thinking, that's 2 days before Christmas! So, I had resigned myself to looking like a chipmunk in pictures and eating mash potatoes for a few days. So, on Dec 23rd, I went in. The surgery took maybe an hour, hour and half max. They gave me an intravenous drip, so I was pretty much knocked out the whole time. When I came to, I was very disoriented and really tired. Got home (with the help of a friend) and proceeded to take 3 tylenols. Woke up around 9 pm later that day and was starving, so I ate some oatmeal, not in too much pain but that could be because of the 3 tylenols I took earlier. The next morning, I woke up, went into the bathroom and noticed a slight swelling and had some pain but nothing a few OTC painkillers couldnt handle (I still have the full bottle of oxycoton he prescribed me, didn't need it once). And I had moved on up to eating rice and sandwiches. So come Christmas morning, I look in the mirror. No swelling! And there was no pain (unless I bit down really hard). None of the horror stories that I hear from my friends who said they were swelling for 3-5 days and couldnt eat. Dr. Su's skills are impressive and I highly recommend him. read more

I went to Dr. Su a couple of years ago to get two of my wisdom teeth removed. This weekend after a failed attempt at trying to get my top left wisdom tooth removed at my dentist's office, I ended up having to find an oral surgeon to finish the job. Having had a painless and smooth time at Dr. Su's office the first time, I decided to go back there. They fit me in last minute as an emergency patient. The facilities seem very clean and up-to-date. The entire team was both friendly and no-nonsense, a combination I really like. Dr. Su was very personable and even though he only saw me once in 2013, he had a lot to say about my first visit and the progression of my healing since then because it seems that they took very extensive notes, which was a pleasant surprise. I would definitely go back to his office to get my final wisdom tooth taken out and would recommend him wholeheartedly. read more

For years before I had gone to Dr. Su, I was experiencing a lot of pain coming from my wisdom teeth. I had four impacted teeth and was originally planning on having them taken out elsewhere with local anesthesia, but reconsidered only to find the best Oral Surgeon in Riverdale. I was understandably nervous about getting any surgery done, especially one invoking my teeth and gums. But when I arrived to the office, which was visibly well maintained and staffed by friendly people, Dr. Su sat me in the chair and instantly calmed me down with his easygoing demeanor and positive attitude towards the upcoming surgery. The general anesthesia was applied and before I knew it, my 4 wisdom teeth extraction surgery was done. It was such a quick procedure and I couldn't believe I was already ready to go. But before I could leave, they made sure I had someone (particularly in this case, my girlfriend) pick me up from the office. In retrospect, this is a great policy to have when you've performed a surgery that requires the patient to go under general anesthesia. Now that I'm writing this Yelp review, my extractions are fully healed and I never had a dry socket nor an infection thanks to Dr. Su. The doctor and his staff were so sweet and professional. I needed two wisdom teeth removed that were severely impacted. The doctor himself was very personable and even gave me a brief description of how Cross Fit began LOL! I asked for a summary of the charges that will be submitted to my insurance and they were able to provide that for me right away. Before the procedure the doctor explained to me all the risks and had me watch a short video. They also provided me with a lot of gauze for the bleeding (that I barely even used) and "happy medicine". I opted for general anesthesia and had it removed last Friday. Now today Monday, I am back to work with very minimal swelling. I even had a very soft pizza today. Totally recommend. read more

Everyone was very nice and friendly (although sometimes the other staff had their COVID surgical masks below their nose which I didn't feel entirely comfortable with). Dr. Su pulled all 4 of my wisdom teeth, and I had a tiny bit of swelling (even with him having had to scrape an infection out of next to one of them) that I could feel on the inside but no visible swelling. I was eating normal food and doing light exercise 2-3 days after the procedure (soft food for the first two days). No dry socket, infection, or bruising. I was so worried after friends' horror stories and yeah, the first 2 hours after the surgery were miserable but that's expected and it was barely bad after that (managed pain by alternating ibuprofen and Tylenol). So glad I did it here. Also, he talked to me the whole time about other things which distracted me from my nervousness before the procedure began. Thanks Dr. Su and other staff! read more

I had my wisdom teeth pulled out about a week ago. I was very pleased with my experience in Dr. Su's office, for starters, the office was clean and newly renovated; the staff were very kind and attentive to my needs. As for Dr. Su, he is an honest and caring man, he explained every possible risk of the surgery ahead of time and explained every step of the procedure very thoroughly he even went out of his way to clean my face after the procedure was over, something he could have easily let his staff do. He will definitely be my oral surgeon if I am ever in need of another procedure. read more

The best of the best. I went there to get an extraction. First of all, Ive Never been sedated before. Was told, by the way my tooth was lodged in, it could possibly fracture my jaw, and read so many horrible reviews about dry sockets. So Yes. I was a Nervous WRECK! Before i get there, Im praying to god i even Wake UP. Hats off to the ENTIRE team, starting from the wonderful and accommodating woman in the front. I believe her name was Jessica, to the surgeon himself. Dr. Su knew i was nervous. Before the sedation process, he inserted a needle. I asked him how long it would take to kick in. Mind you, as i stated earlier, I'd never been sedated, so I'm Really into seeing how this works and feels and when will I start to feel DrowSyyyy.... Dr. tells me he's giving me a little to see how i respond, and maybe 5 minutes or so. I then saw the nurse in front of me and i asked, is this about to happen. She said, we're done. Yep. JUSt Like THAT! the weirdest most calmest situation I'd ever been in. They kept me at ease, and assured me that everything would be fine. I had a large tooth tangled in the nerve, so Yes, It was a big deal. For me that is. I followed ALL of the instructions. and had very little swelling. No dry socket, and a speedy recovery. I Highly recommend them, but can't say, "I can't Wait To Go Back". lol. Hospitality at its best! read more

I went to Dr. Su to have my four wisdom teeth removed. After hearing about friends's wisdom teeth surgeries, I expected to be in a lot of pain after the surgery and to not be able to go about my normal activity for awhile. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that that was not the case at all. The surgery itself was very quick, and Dr. Su's calm and reassuring demeanor made me feel at ease before the surgery. He carefully explained to me in detail what was going to happen. I woke up a little loopy from the anesthesia but in no pain. After the anesthetic from the surgery subsided, I felt some pain that evening. I took some Advil and went to bed. I woke up feeling much better than the previous evening. Throughout my recovery, the pain was so minimal that I only took Advil. I never had to take the painkiller that was prescribed to me. Only a day and half after the surgery, I felt better enough to go on a bike ride. Four days after the surgery, I went to a big music concert. The swelling had pretty much fully subsided five days after the surgery. I highly recommend Dr. Su as an extremely competent doctor you can trust and rely on. Throughout the whole process, I felt that he genuinely cared about me and my recovery. He is very diligent about his work, and I'm glad that I went to see him for my surgery. read more
