Dang! An unassuming place that has amazingly great food. Great water views, looks nondescript, however, you will not be disappointed. Had burgers, grilled on wood which absorbs the amazing flavor. Let me first start by saying, I am no way an expert on oysters, I can actually say I could care less for it but the husband loves it and since we were driving through the "Oyster Capital of the World" I figured we should stop and get some oysters and have my boys try it as well. As other yelpers stated, patience is a must. Since they grill on order, expect to wait 20 minutes for them. But trust me, they are definitely worth the wait. The grilled oysters were so good, we decided to also try their oyster shooters as well. When we ordered the shooters, we originally thought they were going to be in a shot glass since that is what we are used to. But instead, he brought them out still in the shell with lemon and the sauce in a bottle. I was a bit put off by it since I don't really like eating raw oysters from the shell but I decided to try it anyway. I am so glad I did though cause the oysters was so fresh and didn't have that sea taste at all. My only gripe is that they only accept cash and check - no credit cards. He was rude, didn't say but three words to us the whole time we were there. Couldn't even bother to say you're welcome when we thanked him. Didn't serve us water until we asked. High chair was disgusting, my 9 month old was putting the strap in her mouth and I looked down at her and she had brown stuff all over her from it. We asked about peanut products used in the kitchen as my nephew had an allergy. The gentleman serving us responded that he essentially didn't know and that serving people with any food allergies "scared him" and that he'd "rather not serve him" or anyone with allergies. How ridiculous and lazy to not know what is in your food. We already had our food on the way so we were stuck there while the rest of our party had to go elsewhere. We ate here August 9, 2013. A single older woman entered just before my husband and I. The owner/oyster smoker guy pointed at a huge table seating 12 and told her to "sit here" facing the wall! The woman asked if she could have a window seat (the place had just opened and was empty), and he did give her a window seat. My hubby and I were seated at a window seat. Hubby ordered the fish and chips and a vanilla milkshake. I ordered pan sauted oysters off the appetizer menu and one dozen smoked dressed oysters off the outside grill/smoker. The owner took quite a bit of time explaining how everything was homemade, how most restaurants use a frozen pre-battered fish product, how his was handmade batter, and how fresh his oysters were, and how many oysters served along the coast were not even Willapa Bay oysters, but were imported from China! Then he went outside and plucked out my 12 oysters and I watched as he smoked and marinted them. Yes, it took a while (20 minutes?) but they were by far the absolute BEST OYSTERS EVER!!! Very memorable. The sauted oysters were also delish. Hubby loved his shake but was not thrilled with his fish and chips. We had to ask the waiter/wife for water and her two little children were running around the restaurant causing a lot of noise. We are used to eating at whole in the wall Mom and Pop ethnic restaurants and this did not bother us. I also had a plate of fresh, grilled vegetables (cauliflouer, mushrooms, green onion, carrots, brocolli and they were lovely with a nice light sauce. Great final surprise. The bad: - The guy (waiter & cook) is not the most charismatic dude, but he was decent to us. He did forget a set of silverware and seemed annoyed though. - Some of the prices are too much for the portions. There is a special kind of Oyster Magic that happens at this place. Like a pearl! I'm sorry I only had but one meal to eat here. I'm a raw oyster lover, but I tried the cooked here - pan fried, deep fried and Plain Jane grilled. The pan fried were butterflied then fried delicately in a super light breading. The result was soft but not mushy, like a oceany oyster pillow with a gnocchi-like tenderness. Regular fried also delicious, but not as revelatory. Plain Jane grilled were also tender and delicious, with an intense but pleasant smokiness. This is worth the trip. There was an accident on the highway when we were headed out to the coast, so we stopped here to kill some time while it cleared. How can oysters from an oyster capital of the world be bad? This place is a little time capsule. The guy who owns it cooks and I runs it and said he's been doing it for 22 years there. We ordered the deep fried oysters but he said they were no good and talked us out of it (not sure why you'd have something on the menu if you don't think it's good) and convinced us to instead get the pan fried. They were very good! Clean tasting, just the right amount of batter and butter. No frills. Everything is a little extra charge too, if you want to take your leftovers to go, it's a dollar. If you want extra napkins, its 75 cents. Water doesn't come in a glass, it's a bottle so he can charge you $2. A bit of a bummer to spend more than $30 on a small cup of clam chowder (did not seem to have any clams in it. Tasted like potato chowder) a water and the pan fried oysters, but it was good. read more

Nothing is quite so disappointing as being lured with a promise which is then left unfulfilled. We have been eating great seafood throughout the Pacific Northwest, and when we saw this little bistro selling oysters we couldn't resist. We were met by a man who clearly was in the wrong job. But, because I try to always find a positive, I congratulate him on the personality bypass, which was so obviously successful. There were few people in the restaurant yet we still waited for almost fifteen minutes before anyone came to serve us. "No worries, it'll be worth the wait" I told my wife. So we ordered. Two cups of clam chowder; half a dozen oysters from the grill with everything, and half a dozen natural oysters. What seemed like several days later, we received one bowl of clam chowder with two spoons. We pointed out the mistake in a good humored fashion, and Mr. Personality duly told someone else who, sometime later, came to ask us what was the problem. Eventually we received another bowl of chowder. We have eaten a lot of wonderful clam chowder in the past week. River View's was more clam flavored potato chowder and was ordinary at best. Anyway.... Another month or so passed and we were given six oysters. They were very nice oysters courtesy of Mother Nature...and they were enhanced with a little spice and sauce, before being delivered to our table. There was no obvious attempt at presentation. Some time later, I enquired as to the whereabouts of the other six oysters. "I only wrote down one order of 6", said Mr P, rolling his eyes, and rather than trouble this restauranteur with actually having to behave like a restauranteur, we chose to leave things as they were. South Bend is a delightful little riverside town with all manner of oyster bars dotting the main thoroughfare. Perhaps staff at many of them can correctly transcribe an order, and do so with a smile and a friendly welcome. Apparently Riverside cannot. If you choose to ignore the sage advice above, and make your way to Basil Fawlty's Bi-valve Bistro, make sure you have a pocket full of cash. Riverview Dining doesn't accept plastic. read more

Not only is the sauce handmade every morning by Manuel (the owner for 20+ years) which he makes and prepares himself and then meticulously attends the grill like a Michelin chef and sees to the perfection of each oyster. Fine tuned to perfection - he sets them on the grill while still closed to steam the inside before casting off the top shell, adding a delicious concoction of a rustic herbed butter to marinade with the juices and then tops it off with a quick torch at the end - delivering a delicious and perfectly blackened finish. Choose the works or with herbed butter. I watched, mouth watering the entire process and would drive hours for just a single plate.
