    Grilled oysters with a view

It's about the experience, stopping here. Very much enjoyed meeting Manuel. I'm watching him at work at the grill. I'm a novice oyster eater and I have till now have not been one to venture into the two biter size, but I did today and this is my second visit this week. Absolutely love the flavor of the barbecued oysters! Steaming hot off the grill. And when they say, Riverview the first day I was here. I watched a bald eagle diving for fish across the street in the river. Definitely recommend this is a must do visit went in the area

Best grilled oysters we have ever had! We agreed they beat Draco's charbroiled oysters in New Orleans. For all the whiners on here: you didn't get the right thing. "Grumpy" or not, guy knows how to grill a damn good oyster. The grilled oysters will take some time so be patient, grab a beer and relax. Cash only.

The first thing I noticed was our beverages came in original bottles. These drinks were not from some dispenser. Original! I had the Barbecued pulled chicken sandwich. The sauce was rich and had a little kick. It wasn't too sweet or bland. There was so much meat i decided to eat it as a Sloppy Joe. The husband had fish and chips. The fries weren't over cooked. The fish was thick, not pancake- like. The interior is oldish. What they save in decor they make up with variety. Another patron recommended the grilled oyster to another group. The setting made for easy interactions.

Tamales and chowder. Both delicious! (I had started eating my first tamale when I decided to take the photo).

On our way back to Seattle, my wife and I wanted to stop somewhere for an oyster meal for lunch. Not many choices but saw this place, quickly checked Yelp, and based on positive reviews we went in, despite the place looking a little weather worn. Were very pleasantly surprised with two terrific meals. My wife got the pan-fried oysters which were among the best either of us had ever had. I got the daily special: three homemade tamales and a bowl of chowder. An unusual combination but both were delicious! River View is the definition of a down-home 'mom and pop' restaurant. Nothing pretentious or fancy here. Just good homemade food in a friendly and welcoming environment. Cash only.

Had the Oyster Sampler, all of the fried oysters tasted the same although they were supposed to be seasoned differently. The sautéd oysters caused some of the fried ones to be soggy since they were not separated on the plate. Two bacon cheeseburgers, one sampler platter and 3 bottles waters came out to $101.

Stopped in town for the oysters, but the brisket here was the runaway star of our stay! Oysters were good, too.

Was eyeing this place while heading to Long Beach & thrilled we were able to dine in on our way home! Recommend coming here when they open, as it takes about 25 mins with the oyster cooking. We ordered both the grilled BBQ'd oysters and the pan fried ones! Both were epic, and the pan fried ones came out sooner than the grilled. Great seasoning, we inhaled it all (especially for typical non-seafood goers). The chef was busy manning the grill, super friendly and checked in with us multiple times. He was appreciative of the service. Highly recommend checking this place out - will be coming back when i'm in the area. Cash only, no thrills-food savoring type of experience that overlooks the water (don't let the exterior appearance scare you). What a treat!

What an absolute gem of a restaurant. The recent weather hasn't been the greatest, so the warm and welcoming inside of this place was needed and appreciated. Before coming to River View Dining, my only experience with oysters was having them raw. Having them cooked never occurred to me, but I'm so glad I did. They were masterfully cooked. The combination chef, waiter, and owner made sure our oysters were the perfect texture and had tons of flavor. I looked over our table out the window and saw he was squirting lemon on the oysters over a hot grill, that's dedication! And the dedication shows, the oysters were phenomenal. Well worth the price, hopefully I'll be coming back soon!

BBQ oysters. Piece de resistance. Perfectly BBQ' d with a nice light smokey taste.

This is a funky mom and pop restaurant. The building and interior is nothing to brag about, but it's warm and the tables clean. We stop here regularly for the BBQ oysters. They are the best around and sometimes worth the wait. Another treat is the seafood chowder (prawns, scallops). Yum! The fries are cut potatoes and the tartar is Manuel's creation. Ask for an oyster po'boy, it's really good too. Currently it is cash only. This place is worth the drive.

This is a cozy and cash-only establishment. We ordered the half dozen smoked oysters which took about 20 minutes to be done but I happily waited because I knew they were going to be good just by seeing how much care was taken when they were made. Time really slows down here, which was very relaxing as I sat in the restaurant looking out at the rainy day while waiting for my order. The oysters were incredible, and unlike any flavor I've had before. They were not fishy at all and were very meaty. The barbecue sauce on the oysters was incredible. I highly recommend this place.

The oysters are to infinity and beyond. In fact, everything Manuel and his wife cook up is second to none.

Pfffttt... not even sure where to begin this review. Often times either food or service is an…read moreissue, but rarely is it both; this was the exception to that rule. The whole fiasco started with the fact that it was a 20ish minute wait to get a table. Yes, this was a holiday weekend, but busing tables was moving slow enough where I started to wonder if it was self seating; this is mainly because it took about 10 minutes for anyone who worked there to even acknowledge that we were waiting at the door. Once we got seated, slow service continued on with about another 10 minutes till someone asked about if we wanted something to drink. We got our drinks and had a "mix up" as they got one of our drinks wrong. We would have let them know... but they dropped the drinks off and took off for another 10 minutes. Once they came back for our food order, we let them know another the drinks and there wasn't much of a response on their end, more of a shrug. I ordered a cup of chowder as an appetizer, and that took another 15 minutes... the chowder was pretty good though. Our main courses came about 15 minutes after that; which, if you've been keeping track means that our food came well after an hour after we sat down. The food is a whole other story. Needless to say that it would have been better if we were given napkins or even utensils; call slice pretty hard to eat without a fork. The poor boy was more than just "drenched" in their house sauce; it was absolutely falling apart with how wet it was. I also couldn't believe that the staff mixed up both kids orders for fish and chips, and brought two plates of grilled cheese. I can't stress the fact that it was grilled cheese simply because of the fact that it was cheese that was grilled on bread. But I need to say that I've never seen that bread. Be two pieces of a burger bun, just flipped upside down... It's also a pretty rare day that I don't see kids eat grilled cheese because of the way it tastes; today, was one of those days though. I get that holiday weekends are a tough gig, and restaurants aren't always at the top of their game because of how busy/shortstaffed they may be. But this was rough.

They handled our table of 10 really well. Drinks were creative, pretty and delicious. We shared starters and salads and enjoyed them all. Fried oysters (needed more of that delicious sauce!), fried green tomatoes, and foresters' toast were all delicious. The mushrooms and sauce on that toast is one of the best things I've eaten in a long time. We loved the arugula salad. Beautifully presented and the flavors shined - pine nuts, parm and truffle. The sorghum salad was both a surprise and comforting. Such an interesting salad! Everyone loved their entrees. I had the fried chicken. Some of the best I've had. (Note: you can request their spicy sauce on the side, and it's worth it. Doesn't hide the chicken flavor but enhances.) But IT almost overshadowed by the biscuit. I'm going to dream about that crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside biscuit. Loved the mashed potatoes with pan gravy and collards as well. Others had shrimp and grits, pork chop, and rock fish. Everyone raved. Frankly, I don't think you can go wrong here. A memorable meal that I'd be happy to enjoy weekly.

The Sour Cream Standoff!…read more I came with my best friend and from the start the energy felt off. She ordered chili cheese fries and asked for a side of sour cream, something I have witnessed her successfully order there before. The server immediately responded with attitude, saying they do not have sour cream. My friend calmly explained she has gotten it before, however the server remained firm and did not offer to check with the kitchen. When the food arrived, there was no sour cream so I politely asked if she had checked with the kitchen. She replied, "We don't have sour cream lady" and walked away without clarifying whether she had actually asked. When she returned, I said I was not trying to be confrontational, just genuinely curious if she had confirmed with the kitchen. She admitted she had not asked because she "knew they did not have any" At that point I asked if she could please just humor me and double check since it would take a few seconds while picking up food. Five minutes later a woman approached the table in full defensive mode and asked, "Are you the one asking for sour cream?" She identified herself as the owner and was immediately combative. The entire restaurant went quiet. It was wildly uncomfortable. She explained that sometimes they did have it but they do not right now. The issue was never about sour cream. It was about the attitude and unprofessional behavior of staff and owner, as well as escalation over something that could have been resolved in a few seconds. Beyond that, the overall experience did not improve. The restaurant felt unclean, the bathrooms were rough, and the food did not make up for the tension. It is one thing to run out of an item. It is another thing entirely to turn a simple question into a public confrontation. Disappointing across the board.
