The Deer Lodge - LOOK at the size of that steak!

PICTURES ARE worth a thousand words…read more... And the pics I submit here, for your approval, speak volumes. Heck. The outside character of this li'l red shack shouts "Get ready to eat some meat!" C'mon inside. Join me, and 3 of my whacky friends as we get down and get steak-y. Ian appeared, past the red kitchen partition. With the look of a young rocker or budding rocket scientist. Our Deer Lodge Leader, steak wrangler, master of caremonies. I'm a bit shy, so I....(YEAH, right!) So I inquired of Ian, which cut caught his fancy? He rebounded with a well done response. T-Bone. T-Bones it was! For three of us. That fourth one, no names, Butch, bucked the trend and went for a ribeye. It wasn't long, Ian reemerged from behind red partition, hefting plates of meat and potato magnificence. As a fine tuned Foodie, this charming niche carved into the side of a chunk of Georgia rock fulfilled a tantalizing fantasy for me. A venture into a rarely found world of Med Rare and more. Sizzles on a flat top turned into scent-sational fantasy fare. These huge hunks of meat were T-Bone perfection. The long side, the strip. The smaller side, a much anticipated tenderloin. A cut oh so tender. Fork tender. The explosion of flavors did NOT disappoint! Thoughts of joy ran through my head, 'damn glad I'm not a vegan'. Hey, we tried. As we happily munched on greens & things. Ranch on mine. But bring on THE meat! The draw at this Lodge is clear. Perfectly clear. Meet 'n Greet the meat. An introduction that I believe the beginning of a beautiful, loving relationship. Well done! Cash, or checks only accepted. No cards. Kinda rare nowadays, but I get it. Before we left, we got the answer to an observation we had at the onset. We found out in no uncertain terms, why EVERYONE exiting was swinging or cradling a white doggie bag. HUGE portions. Unbelievable prices. I got the thrilling chance to step into sear central. The Med Rare command center. I got the thrill of meeting the vivacious owner, Sabrina. With a wink and a 1,000 watt smile she welcomed me into her kitchen. Look around. Take all the pics you want!, she said. THAT is confidence in a spotless kitchen and nothing to hide. I felt honored to stand nearby as Sabrina in person, grabbed a spatula. I witnessed a master at work. At her craft. She was 14 the first time she walked through those doors. And now, she transforms a loin of beef into picture perfect choice cuts. Anything that touches flame, cleaved by her knifemanship. (Just made that word up!) A sparkling & bubbly personality to boot. Bravo, Sabrina! I definitely have a thing for The Deer Lodge. I bet you will, too!

Seating was roomy and comfortable. Bathroom clean. Our group got a variety of things from the menu and off menu. The pulled pork sandwich was right on. Couldn't eat all of so we saved it and ate it with some eggs at breakfast. Yum! The fried okra was hot and crunchy, and quite the serving. The little dish was heaped high with deliciousness. I got the Brunswick Stew, which was not on the menu, but on the specials board at the entrance. I never miss a chance to eat Brunswick Stew. It was just right. Not too spicy. Not too vinegary. I got a bowl and shared it. I also got the baked sweet potato. That was a real treat. The potato was hot and cooked to silky smooth. It's served with this brown sugar butter that made it a dessert. One our group got the fried apple pie with ice cream. I'm not a fan of fruit pies, but I did have a nibble of the crust. It was light and crispy. Not heavy, tough and crumbly as I've seen done by others in the mountains. I would almost eat a serving of fried crust dough. Serve with that butter for the sweet potato, and some ice cream-THAT would be awesome. On your way out don't forget to pick up some grits or pancake mix from Logan Mill. It's the only grits I serve at my house.

They come out hot and perfectly crispy, with a light, crunchy breading that doesn't overpower the pickle itself. Each bite has that satisfying crunch followed by the tangy dill flavor that fried pickles should have. They aren't greasy, which I really appreciated, and the portion size is generous enough to share (though you might not want to). Paired with the ranch, they hit that perfect salty, savory balance that keeps you reaching for "just one more." Sitting there with the lake nearby and a cold drink in hand made them even better. If you're at Lakeview Tavern and debating on an appetizer, the fried pickles are a no-brainer -- classic, flavorful, and done right.

When visiting new establishment it's best to go with whatever your friend orders since this is their territory. She ordered the ribs and I was able to try one and it was by far one of the best I've had in a long time. I was trying to be good since overloading on food and alcohol. The last few days and opted for the grilled chicken dinner with broccoli. I was very much happy with my meal. I preferred to drink my calories so I did order myself a nice old-fashioned. Ambience was definitely fun and we were all enjoying ourselves and it's just a great atmosphere when you can also interact with the bartenders. I would go back again.
