This is a MUST if you are in the area. We stopped by yesterday for breakfast and were delighted we did. The Cafe is in a strip mall behind Sonic off 278 in Bluffton. The decor is charming with a New Orleans feel. The staff is welcoming and efficient. I had the river road omlette which had eggs,peppers, onions, Andoui sausage topped with a Cajun shrimp sauce with a side of hash browns. WOW! It was delicious with great spice and flavor. My husband had the dirty bird which is fried chicken strip on a biscuit with sausage gravy; decadent and delicious. Their coffee is rich and flavorful as well. You will not regret going there for either breakfast or lunch! Can't wait to go back. read more

This local spot never disappoints! Every year my husband and I take an annual trip to Montage Palmetto Bluff, but we always make it a point to leave the resort and come here for breakfast. We love how many locals come to the spot and the level of service that you get from the staff. My favorite breakfast is always one that consists of eggs and they have a variety of options to choose from. I highly recommend the cheesy grits and their biscuit. Was shopping in a nearby garden furniture store, and asked for a lunch recommendation. They pointed us to this little bistro, saying how good the food was. Although it was. a hot day, I ordered the red beans and rice, while my wife ordered shrimp and grits cakes. I was gobsmacked with the best dish of red beans and rice with andouille I have tasted outside of the French Quarter in New Orleans. It was just the right texture, and the sausage was grilled perfectly. I remarked to the waitress how impressed I was, and assured her her boss really knows his stuff. Out popped the proprieter, who turned out to be the waitress's father! This is a fairly new venture for the owner, who relocated to the low country less than a year before. He's just starting out, but his cooking reveals a wealth of experience. We had a pleasant conversation, whereupon he recommended his bread pudding, which I took home and found to be every bit as delightful as my lunch. If you like New Orleans cooking as much as I do, this restaurant offers the real deal! Please reward this fine chef with your business! We were stuck in the usual Hilton Head traffic so we pulled off to have an early lunch and we weren't disappointed. Yelp reviewers gave this place a 5. My brother got the special of the day - yellow grits with fried shrimp and catfish with an authentic Creole sauce. He said it was the best he's ever had! I had the spinach salad and it was pretty good. My husband got the shrimp PoBoy and it was good also. We lived in New Orleans for a bit and really appreciate the sour dough bread the use for the PoBoys - he's spoiled. This bread was a simple hoagie roll without any flavor. He got French fries with it and they were very good. The service was outstanding and fast. We had a nice table by the window. We would definitely eat here again. read more

Had a great breakfast at this quaint cafe in Bluffton before flying home. The cook came out and told us the story behind the eatery, as it is run by a family from New Orleans Louisiana which most of their food has influence from. He insisted on us trying the grits and I have to admit they were damn delicious ! Hubby has the biscuits and gravy and was floored by them. I had the ugly egg burrito that was so filling I didn't need anything else for the day! Alexis was our server and was very social and courteous. I really want "locally owned" restaurants to succeed as I really do not care for chain restaurants. My wife and I decided to go to RR Cafe for breakfast due to their interesting menu and positive reviews. Upon arrival we were seated immediately. The server was courteous and responsive. My wife and I ordered omelets, hers with cheese grits and mine with hash browns. I assumed toast would come with the food, but NO! Have to pay an additional $1.50! I asked for some jalapenos in my omelet and later found I was charged an additional $1 for those. The omelets were small and I believe were made with "egg beaters" as the eggs had very little flavor with an egg substitute consistency. The cheese grits were mostly creamed corn which was odd. When the food arrived, I realized toast was not included, so I asked for toast which arrived after I had finished my food. The toast was cold, the butter was not butter, but was a small cup of yellow whipped goo. The strawberry jam was cheap strawberry jelly (?) that was tasteless. My hash browns appeared to be made with frozen hash browns which were smashed down to about 1/8 " to appear more plentiful. The bill at the end was practically $50 with a 20% tip for a very disappointing breakfast...two omelets and two cups of coffee. After I left I told my wife I felt like I was pickpocketed. What? Seriously good Cajun food. Shrimp and grit cakes for lunch where the Shrimp was so perfectly and softly cooked they melted in my mouth and the grits were crispy on the outside and soft and moist on the inside. So we go all the way to Blufton for lunch at River Road Cafe looking forward to some delicious Cajun lunch and lo and behold weekends are brunch only! We were so disappointed after driving over an hour to get there. But we decided to try the brunch food and my goodness, it did not disappoint!!! I had the crawfish omelet with cheese grits on the side and it was all I could do not to lick the plate. Absolutely the best omelet I've ever had in my life!! My husband got the country fried steak with eggs and cheese grits and was in absolute heaven! It was a happy accident we were stuck ordering brunch.
