Beautiful golf course. From the limited perspective of a rider (non golfer), it is an enjoyable course. The course was busy and backed up at times but we went on Sunday of Memorial Day so we expected just that. I can't comment on the course difficulty myself, and my boyfriend is 3 weeks into golf so I'm not sure we should trust him either. read more

Excellent course, excellent staff, Always love playing this course as it puts a good test to my game. Just a few hills if you decide to walk it, nothing killer though. Didn't get the fifth star as their café was not open. This was the 2nd time on a Sunday that we could get snacks. If you are going to post signs of NO OUTSIDE FOOD OR DRINKS you should have the café open. Keep up the good work course staff, but step it up café team. read more

Played here a few weeks ago on probably the windiest day of the year. I'm a newbie and still enjoyed playing 9 although I lost quite a few golf balls (you're welcome). I really liked the course and look forward to coming back on a calmer day. read more

Fun, challenging course. One of the more mature ones in Utah with lots of trees and punishing out-of-bounds. They keep the river weeds high so out of bounds is usually bogey or worse. But if you stay in the fairway, relatively short holes leads to lots of birdie opportunities. Some holes test your ability to manage distance and the course, can't just whack away. Some of the better sand in Utah, stuff you can hit out of. I've played this course several times and never had an issue with staff. Sorry for those that did--I'm a minority and didn't feel out of place. read more

I gave this course 2 stars because they have a good practice facility and they keep it decent shape. Overall this is not great. There are way too many hazards. If you like losing golf balls then this your kind of place. read more

This place is pretty tight for the average golfer. I had to keep the driver in the bag for the most part, only using it about three times. In spite of my 15 handicap I managed to play without losing a single ball. This is a strategy course and doesn't play long at all. I probably won't play here again because I love to use my driver but This was not the place for me to use one . It's a nice course and well cared for. read more

I had problems when they double-charged me after their online reservation system glitched. But they made it right. Tough course, but in good condition. A little funky how the power lines go over your head on the first hole and can interfere with your shot, especially when there is enough trouble everywhere anyways. But if you like a challenge and a decent course, this is a good place to play. read more

I came here once before and had a great time. Today, I came here with a couple of friends and started golfing and done about 2 holes until we were interrogated by the Marshall to let people play through us. He left and came back right as the people in front of us finished and told us that we weren't allowed to play anymore unless we reported back to the pro shop. After we left the pro shop, we were continuously followed and watched closely by the Marshall when we tried to continue playing. I would like to add that we are colored people and young. We felt that we were treated differently because we are not white nor dressed how people dress in the golfing scene. Anyways, we kept spotting the Marshall hiding in secret paths just watching us as we play. We felt so uncomfortable that we just left after paying so much for how many holes we got to play. We will definitely not be returning here to play. Being discriminated and watched our every move is not what we payed for. We will not recommend any family or friends to this golf course for the unreasonable act that happened today. Just can't believe it. read more

I've played this course about ten times. It's tougher than it looks and is definitely a course for shot makers. If you want a course where you can bomb your drive and then try to recover with a short shot to the green then this course isn't for you. Having said that, there are a few really long holes that make the challenge varied. Why not five stars? The course can get busy and slow. I've played as a single and had a difficult time getting people to let me play through at times. If you can find a time where the course isn't busy you can have a great time. read more

Dear River Oaks, I've usually always enjoyed your facility but in the last few months I've seen a drastic decline, especially at your north driving range area. I usually come 3-4 times a week and within the last months every morning there is only two spots you can hit from due to your over watering. Someone needs to re-evaluate their work read more

I play this course as a men's league member at least once a week during the season so perhaps I'm biased but I'll share my views and you decide. I play from the white tees and I'm more of a hacker than a player and NO I won't share my handicap on Yelp- so adjust your expectations accordingly. I shot an 89 here - once. Of the half dozen guys I know who play this course , three like it just fine and three can't stand it. Those who don't like the course have one basic complaint, it's too penal! And I have to say I agree. If you're in trouble here, most times you're screwed, recovery isn't an option. During the summer there's head high marsh grass and sucking mud, a river, oak tree forests, 18 inch overgrowth alongside the fairways and on a couple of holes you'll be smack up against the driving range so stay alert. I think this is a place you "learn" to play, I don't think I'd appreciate it as a first time experience. However, once you get familiar with the course I think it grows on you. It's challenging for sure, but not gimmicky at all. Every hole has it's own set of challenges. It could be a blind tee shot threaded through a narrow opening with OB on either side or a wide open fairway that looks easy until you barely miss it and see your ball disappear into the river or into the marsh. Oh yeah- fun. The course is always well maintained, the clubhouse and lunch room are OK but can get a little crowded. The food is golf course rated, meaning it won't kill you but you won't be taking any home to surprise the spouse. One thing I haven't gotten an answer to is why the 67/119 course/slope rating? Are you kidding me? Even Glendale, one of the easiest tracks around, has a rating of 70/117. Makes it tough to drag that handicap down when you're playing here all the time. Anyway, if you're a high handicapper plan on leaving the driver in the bag, although on the par 5, 13th if they are playing from the elevated tee it's really tempting to try and launch one- good luck. read more

The greens are second to none. So fast, true and hold. You won't find better greens for public consumption anywhere in Utah. The dual-directional driving range and practice area are so nice. You can always find a sweet spot with good level turf. With selection and value, the merchandise in the pro shop rivals any retailer even discount off-course retailers. read more

This is a really good golf course. The greens always seen to be in pretty good shape. Practice facilities are great. It is a very tight golf course, but if you play the right tees and make the right club selection, you will be fine. This course does a lot of rounds, so plan ahead. read more

I've participated in the ladies league for five years or so and each year there's less attention to us ladies. Our league day is on Mondays and they schedule high school tournaments and the mayor tournaments on Mondays, not men's league day! I guess it's time to go to another golf course because they don't care about women! read more

I'm from Colorado here for a Basketball tournament for my daughter. Had 7 hrs. to kill between games. Decided to play River Oaks because t was relatively close to our hotel. Reviews had me second guessing but I'm glad I decided to play. Although I'm a hack this course had some interesting holes. Definitely makes you double check your club selection and the sooner you figure that out I believe the better and funnier the round will be. Being my first time playing it took the first 9 to get it. This course is extremely tough but at the same time fun. I would recommend playing this course if you are at or near playing your best golf. Would like to play it again in seasons form. (Is there ever really a time?). Greens were fast but fair and the scenery was second to none. Hopefully,when I return next year I can exact my revenge on my lost dozen balls!! Otherwise great course, great staff, pace of play was right at 3 1/2 hrs which is awesome and ice cold beer on the 19th. Priceless! read more

I recently played this course for the first time over the July 4th weekend and will definitely be back to play it again since the course took 10 of my balls. If you're the type that like to hit driver on every hole then this course is not for you. This is a technical and non-forgiving course at least through the front 9. The back 9 has a number of elevation changes but is a bit more forgiving. The course was in great condition but the greens were a bit slow. I played on a Sunday so I can't comment on the pace of play since I didn't see anyone until the 7th hole and I think I was the only one playing the back 9 since I didn't see a sole out there. The only reason why I didn't give this course a 5 star rating is cos the 18th hole is a par 3 and not a good way to finish a round. read more
