Hello, fellow golfers. I'm 72 and a lifetime golfer at a fairly high level. After a layoff due to health issues, I took up my beloved sport again, and I was terrible. Spraying the ball everywhere. I finally concluded I needed some lessons from a pro to get me back on track. I found that pro at Old Mill, and his name is Gavin Eckert. He is truly one of the best teachers of golf I have ever worked with. He has a very positive demeanor, and I immediately started hitting the ball better. I spent $300 for the four lesson package, and it has been worth every penny of it! I'm hitting every club crisply and my short game has dramatically improved. I did the old guy thing and invested almost 1K in a new Ping Driver and a Taylor Made mini driver. Now I can actually hit them. Gavin is a great listener, and I believe he patterned his lessons for me based on his understanding of how I processed information. Now, that is a real talent. This is a beautiful course set in the hillside of Little Cottonwood. I played here two years ago and not sure why I've not been back in that time. The views are breathtaking. With the Wastach range so close it's like we're playing in the Alps! The fairways are wide Amd in great shape. Don't think you will walk this course. The climb from 8 to 9 alone should discourage that thought. The clubhouse and cart staffs are great people and helpful. I don't want this place to get busy but if you choose Old Mill you're going to love it. read more

After a Yelp search of many Utah public courses, I chose Old Mill and I'm really glad I did. Only $67 for 18 holes and a cart was a great deal and I'd pay it any day to play this course. Like many mountain courses, I was afraid it was going to be a bit gimmicky but I was pleasantly surprised it wasn't at all. There were several elevated tees, rolling (even slanted) fairways, it never felt like it was too much at any time. The course was in great shape, especially considering it's been 100 degrees and more throughout my Salt Lake City visit. Outside of a few holes, the course is pretty narrow and will require some straight shooting. The greens were a trip because at times they were quick and then they would slow down considerably. Many of them had several tiers which proved to be tough at times. Overall, I had a great experience and had it with a great rate for some good golf. No cart girl but I'm guessing the 104 temp caused that. On an amazing customer service note, when I finished the drink area was closed and when I asked one of the instructors if there was somewhere else I could buy something, he gave me one of his own Gatorades. Super nice! Hydrate and have a blast. read more

Granted, we had a late t time but do the sprinklers need to come on the greens when you get to them? We couldn't play the last 3 greens because the sprinklers would come on. Staff was friendly. Course in great shape. read more

This is a good and challenging course and a course that is on the shorter side of courses but very challenging for a shorter course. The Cafe has great food too! The sandwiches and hamburgers are really good! read more

We enjoyed this course. Generally, the the tee boxes, fairways, and greens were in good shape. Regrettably, too many of our fellow golfers don't understand the importance of replacing a divot or repairing a ball mark, but the grounds crew seems to stay ahead of them. Wide open fairways on front 9 give way to a few challenging dog legs on back 9. I would not walk this course unless you want a good workout. Limited interaction with staff was all positive. Cheers! We took the last tee time at 3:20 and once we finished our game, we discovered we were the only people on the property. The clubhouse closed down and they locked the gate so we are stuck inside for the night. No way out. Please help. read more

Pretty course but a 3 1/2 hour back 9 is unacceptable. Especially when they couldn't care less. Oh, and we were out there for 6 hours with it in the upper 90's and there is no working water on the course and we saw the cart gal one time only. Lame... read more

I don't know much about golf, having only played three times so far, but what I can say is that Old Mill Golf Course is a beautiful golf course. It is very well maintained and the views across the Salt Lake Valley are terrific. The one drawback to being nestled in the foothills and surrounded by nature is that much of the rough consists of thorny plants like stinging nettle, so if you lose a ball it's gone. Don't try and get it. There are also a lot of ponds and trees that can be challenging. But the overall beauty of the course is still worth losing a few balls. Clubhouse and pro shop were clean and well maintained. Staff was friendly enough. Golf carts were in good condition. read more

I love this course! I'm not a huge golfer, but this course seems to cater to both beginners and experienced level of players. The course is well maintained, the clubhouse, pro shop, and facility is nice and well kept. The carts are in good shape and the view from every hole is amazing! You're either looking at a cityscape or the bench of the Wasatch Mountains. I've played here about a half dozen times and plan to keep playing here whenever I get the chance. read more

My friends and I sincerely do NOT appreciate the man with the prosthetic leg that works there following us around the entire time we were playing golf on Sunday May 30th and harassing us. He was extremely rude and I'm not sure at all what his problem with us was. We got to the second hole and he came up to us and told us to hurry up and play faster. His exact words were, "alright kids listen up, this is how the holes need to be played at this course today..." he went on from there to tell us that we were only allowed to spend 15 minutes on each hole even though we were waiting for the people in front of us to play... when we told him that we were waiting for people who were playing in front of us to get done he snapped at us and told us the course was wide open in front of us and to hurry it up. Ot true!! He then told us that we all needed to pay a prospector fee at the clubhouse. We all paid a lot of money to play that course on Sunday and we are not "kids" by any means and are all experienced golfers. I have been coming to this course my entire life and have never been treated so rude and disrespectfully. He then proceeded to hang around at random holes we were playing for the rest of the 18 holes. He would literally sit right behind wherever our carts were parked and just glare at us all. We finally asked him if there was a problem and if we could help him with something and he finally took off and went away all pissed off. That was the 16th hole. I'm furious about getting treated like this. I will be telling everyone I know about this. I grew up in Holladay and am so disappointed in my neighborhood golf course and their employees and the disrespect I was shown to myself and my friends on Sunday. read more

Course in decent condition, greens were nice. They have no outside drink posted in a couple places which makes sense because they have no water to drink on the course and they charge $4.50 for water. They like to squeeze any penny they can from you. So I would not go on a warm summer day read more

Little town, it's a quiet village! Love the view from this place and I love the course. More than anything though we got to talk about that view. I am sure it was once way more beautiful now you are looking down on freeway but still pretty awesome. This course is well maintained and the only thing it lacks and is a pretty big deal to me would have to be no GPS giving you a rough estimate of how far away you are. Could I figure it out some other way? Most likely, but do I want to? No. Reasonably priced and the holes aren't too difficult most of the fairways are pretty wide and is great for beginner golfers. But if you are beginner go somewhere else, no offense. I don't like playing behind slow people, unless you play best ball... persona non grata. The range is one of my favorites however once again it is just missing those little flexible plastic tees that allow you to actually use your driver. THE VERDICT: This place is out of my way, so I would never choose to go here. However, when my friends do I have no problem hitting it up because it is a beautiful course and it isn't stupidly priced. For the most part most of the patrons that go here aren't ass-hats, which makes it that much more enjoyable. So... if you go... don't ruin that. It was a great course. The salt lake areas public courses have all been really nice so far. About 35-40 bucks for 18 holes and a ride. The views were rally nice and the greens were in pretty good shape for September. I'll play here again read more

Do yourself a favor and never play here. Lots of other courses, don't wast your time/money at this place.

So I love this golf course. If I got to choose any 9 holes to play in the state (and I've played at a lot of courses here) I'd probably pick the front nine at Old Mill. The views are awesome, especially on the front nine. The course is no cake walk, though. I enjoy undulating greens because they provide a major challenge to this golfer of average ability (maybe I'm being to generous to myself but whatever :0) and these greens are fantastic. I agree that the last three holes (16-18) are difficult. They drive me nuts each time I play but I'm not going to lower my rating. I just need to play more and improve my game. (Don't let my wife hear that, though.) The staff has always been polite and professional when I've visited and the practice greens are nice for warm up. Confession, I've never used the driving range here. So I have no feedback on what that is like, but I've seen it and think I may be too distracted at looking over the valley to practice driving the golf ball. (I also blame my high scores on that when I play here. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.) read more

Old Mill is my favorite public course in South Salt Lake. The course is well kept and in much better condition than all the other public courses on this side of the valley with exception of South Mountain. Length is average from the tips. Not many trees and fewer ob areas that will eat your ball. Greens aren't difficult but more challenging than competition with the exception of South Mtn. Green fees and cart for $40 -50. Walk on is going to be challenging unless it's mid week mid day or 1 - 2, foursome isn't happening during peak hours. read more

Old Mill is well maintained, challenging, and has amazing views of Salt Lake City from all over the course. The combination of elevated tees and high altitude makes for great drives (seriously, I've never hit 307 yards off the tee before!) There are lots of poison ivy signs in the out-of-bounds areas, so bring some extra balls if you're like me and don't always keep it in the fairway :-) Basically, they have everything you could ask for from a "mountain golf" course, plus a nice driving range and a chipping/putting area to warm up. Minus one star for the price, otherwise highly recommended. read more

Granted I'm a beginner and don't have a ton to compare to, but I really love this course. The views are spectacular and the location is great. It's become a Sunday hobby for us. 4 stars instead of 5 because there are a lot of divots. Wish people would abide by the signs to keep carts on the path on wet days like today, but I don't blame the course ownership for that. Path is windy and steep, but that's what you get for a hillside course. read more

I absolutely love this course, it is well maintained, people that work here are very nice. This course can be challenging in some areas and open in others. It is located in such a beautiful area on the Eastern bench of the Wasatch area. Awesome view of the Salt Lake Valley. I love this course, one of my favorites, of not my most favorite compared to other county courses. I highly recommend it playing this course in the early mornings, it's gorgeous and cooler temperature on hot summer mornings due to the sun rising above the eastern mountains. read more

Anyone who says this course is acceptable in any way simply has never played a decent track. Where to start? The course itself is jammed into an area the is not large enough to fit 18 holes. 2, 9 and 16 are gimmics. Much of the front 9 has a number of holes running back and forth so you always worried that the hacks who play this dog track might be hitting you with their balls. If they're not hitting your head they're hitting your ball. The greens are slow and poorly maintained. The driving range is pitiful. I once tried to give a lesson there. NEVER AGAIN! The tee is elevated so you have no idea of your ball's true tragectory. They make you hit of mats. How can anyone learn to hit a golf ball or practice striking irons if you can't see your divot. To hit a driver (which is not allowed) you have to tee it on one of those rubber tee things so basically they feel they know how high to tee your ball. When I incredulously asked the punk of a pro about the mats and if I could hit some balls of the turf, he said, "We've always had mats," as if that made it OK. I live right next to this course and play it no more than once a year and every time I play it, I hate every minute of it. Every time I come of if, I vow I'll NEVER PLAY IT AGAIN! This time I mean it. If you like it, play it, but when you play a decent course, you'll see what I mean. I have never known a decent player who likes this pit and most simply refuse to set foot on this cruel trick on an uninformed public. read more

Sorry, but after today's round (8 AM t-time), I would suggest calling for course conditions! Many t-box, fairways and greens in terrible shape. Divots, ball marks not repaired to the point that we wondered if maintenance is not routine at all on this course. This place is really taking a beating! Today my thinking is that they should close this course for a month to let it recover. There are many courses that are played to death - but very few of them are in this condition. The integrity of the golfers also play a part. Fix your damn ball marks and divots!! What the hell, you morons born in barn??!! read more

Good course but they stacked foursomes 6 minutes apart. At one point while golfing there were 5 groups of four waiting on one tee box.

Just had a friend ask me to gold at Old Mill yesterday and I declined...see my review. I asked how it went yesterday (4/17/14). He told me they STILL haven't mowed their greens yet! I may wait until JUNE to play there instead of May!!! Come ON! Every place I've played in SLC have been mowing and rolling their greens...just an FYI- I wouldn't play full price for such dismal greens.... read more

An enjoyable course tucked in the corner of the valley. Some hills (tiring if you walk it), with a nice mix of water, bunkers, trees, and tight fairways. Great views of the valley. Good value for the money. A few holes on the back 9 are a bit whacky, but fun. read more

Fun course. And i agree with with the comment about holes 16-18, tough stuff if you aren't on your game. Enjoyed playing here the other day. A little bit of a higher quality crowed at the course. Stopped and chatted with two different groups playing and it was very enjoyable. The fairways never seem to change much whether its the first day after winter or its mid summer, just a little above average. Greens were great. If you are walking, it'll be a bit tiring due to all the hills. But i would definitely recommend this course. read more

Played today with my son, who is in college in the area. Although the season is coming to and end, and the greens were a bit raggedy, we had a great time. The course has a nice mix of holes, is wide open in some parts and butt clenchingly tight in others, and has great views of the greater SLC valley from its hillside location.
