6/28/26 I would just like to add that i've been messaged by one of the people who recently reviewed...accusing me of being immature and saying I was an ex-employee. So take that as you will but I think it's very suspicious, and the other also magically saying they're buddy buddy with the manager...Read all of the one star reviews about this place let me know if you see a trend! Way overpriced for what this course offers. The golf carts are questionable at best, and the overall experience did not justify the cost. When interacting with a manager named Sarah. She was rude, disrespectful, and unprofessional. I think a toddler has better manners than she does. I also saw what appeared to be her drinking a beer while working which is concerning for someone in a management position and expected to set an example for employees. Watching the way she interacted with staff was disappointing. Management plays a huge role in running a business, and based on what I saw, there is huge room for improvement. The fact that this behavior appears to be tolerated reflects poorly on the owners. If i could rate this course a 0/5 Stars i would. This was one of the worst golf course experiences I've had, and I would not return nor recommend. read more

Extremely rude service from multiple employees including the "Marshall" and girl working the front desk. Myself and my family have golfed here multiple times before, but will no longer be going back. We have never had an issue here but I absolutely do not recommend this course after this mornings encounter. Apparently carts were not allowed at two specific holes due to a pipe bursting. Multiple golfers could be seen with their carts around these holes, so we continued to play. The "Marshall" rode over and began to yell that we weren't allowed to have our cart there. (We were done with the two holes at this point). When returning our carts the front desk lady began to single our group out, yelling we knew we weren't supposed to be down there. When we questioned seeing other golfers with carts in that exact spot minutes before us, and why are they not being yelled at her response was "i'm not going to argue". Tacky and unprofessional. I don't usually leave reviews but this was so unnecessary. Post a sign or simply communicate with your paying customers rather than yell at them. read more

We just had a great time playing River Oaks. We had a group of 15 with only a days notice and they set us up nicely. One thing that's really cool here is the front and back 9 are completely different experiences. The front is mostly flat and the back plays along a river and is hilly. Really cool. The employees here are great; I can tell they're hard workers. Bango, Daren, and Brody make it very welcoming. However, the lady at the front isn't very nice. But the other people inside are great aswell wish I could catch there names. Overall, it was a great experience. p.s fire place needs to be cleaned. read more

The woman working the counter is rude and has no patience with Customers. The people in line all wanted carts and she would explain why we couldn't have carts, which is fine but to be rude about it to everyone in line is unacceptable for any business. Beautiful golf course and great place to have special events. We had a funeral reception there and the staff was so helpful and accommodating. We had plenty of space between the tent area and patio, as well as plenty of parking. Everyone really enjoyed visiting on the patio and the beautiful scenery. Pam, Ken, Robert, Gloria & Ryan were all so kind and compassionate. So grateful to them for making a hard day, so much easier. read more

I always give River Oaks a break because there is so few options for public golf in this area. But after today I have to call out the current state of this place. The lady at the front desk is rude and combative. The Range balls are mostly trash. The Range is mostly dirt. The "redesign" of the front 9 is wacky. The Greens are trash. The Twilight is at 5:30, which is later than I've ever heard of. I get this is a small business, and I bet they have a hard time staying open. But you have to have some level of quality for what they are charging. I'll be sad when they are gone, but I won't be visiting much while they are here. read more

I honestly don't write reviews but I felt the need to do so today. For starters, I am a 26yo multi-sport athlete & not some middle-aged Karen with a BoB haircut driving a 2017 Toyota Sienna. The course itself was fine for the 209 region with the back 9 better than the front but what was not great was the customer service from the clubhouse. Played as a group of 3 and charged double compared to my friends. When asked why, lady had no reasoning even with proof of bank statement and were unable to do anything. A secondary lady was rather rude and told us to "call back tomorrow" and get it figured out while we were inside talking to them. Random dudes yelling at us to stay off the tee boxes with carts even though we were behind the car signs & some dude who works there drove up while we were mid swing talking about repairing our divot marks even though we had been all day. Willing to give River Oaks another shot in the future but was honestly at a loss of words for how the experience went today made me not wanna ever come back. Keep in mind we are all respectful young men just trying to enjoy a nice round of golf. Maybe in the future I'll play here again but for now, I'd stick to Creekside, Dryden, Manteca, & Jack tone. This course is pretty much comparable to Dryden but the staff in the club house were exceptionally nice over there. read more

Hi Pam, Not sure what part of this review is inaccurate. I was not complaining about the weather, I was complaining that then tent flooded. As a business you should've informed us of this possibility instead of us finding out on our wedding day. I wish I could rate this place ZERO stars. My husband and his friends come here often. They are constantly disrespected by a lady at the front desk. Even when they make appointments, she insists the person who took the appointment shouldn't have done so. My husband and his friends are business owners and respected teachers in the area. They deserve to be respected and treated like individuals. I do not recommend this place for anyone. Especially with service like this. read more

I've been going to this course a little half a year, never had an issue before yesterday. What I use to love about this place was that if you and your buddies want a last minute tee time at a simple going course this place is there for you. We show up at 1:30 ask to walk on they said the next available tee time is 2:45. Weird but we accept and just hang out on the putting green. Some dude keeps coming up to us smoking clearly not a golfer but they were chitchatting with him inside so he must be a regular. About 2:30 we look over at hole 1 to see if we might be able to get on early, there's a group of 3 kids teeing off walking so we wait a couple more then head inside. Everything's going smooth until we once again go to tee off on 1. There's two more kids in addition to those 3. But they are barely teeing off while kids who previously tee'd off are finishing the green. 6 hits from each golfer later it's finally our turn. 3 men finished hole 1 before each of those kids even tee'd off on the next(we did have carts.) They were kind enough to let us go through, we rushed and went to hole 3. The next 2-3 holes our golf is constantly interrupted because these kids are hitting in our fair way taking their time on recovery shots. The kids were nice but still was less than enjoyable. We go along finish hole 8. It's about 3:50 we were told carts go in at 4:30. Instead of hitting hole 9, we wanted to change it for hole 2. No one is over there so we tee off on 2, about to finish up, haven't hit onto green yet. Before I continue I'm pretty sure the marshal is some older gentleman who wears a straw hat (no beard) I could be wrong. The poor excuse for a man that showed up yesterday to tell us to turn the carts in was overweight and had a beard. He already came with an attitude so I drive to go pick up my ball near the green. On my way back he yells at me "AND ILL MAKE SURE YOU GET BANNED FROM A CART FOR THAT MOVE YOU JUST PULLED RIGHT THERE!" I'm confused at the whole thing and asked him what I did, and according to him I did about 12 donuts in the middle of the green and messed up all of hole 3. After arguing back and forth with him about what I did I apologized sincerely, but he still had an attitude! I reply to him "if I drove on the green then my bad dude I didn't mean to ruin your day with that." He replies "you didn't ruin my day you ruined your day now your banned from cart." I replied "I didn't ruin my day I played good golf until you showed up."he was PISSED LOL. He replies "yeah well I'm still going to follow you guys in." He's speaks in a horrific unprofessional, immature tone like everyone should be kissing the feet he walks on. When I go inside he can even be man enough to look me in my face when I tell him to have a good night!! What a poor puss!! I would be embarrassed if I was River Oaks employing someone like this. read more

I NEVER EVER WRITE REVIEWS! But I have to this time! So the front desk lady is super nice.... older gentleman riding around is cool... the course is fun and unique in it's own way. Quick 18 to mostly get some practice with those irons. So I'm not gonna hate on the course. HOWEVER!!, the blonde lady with the tattoos seems to always be unhappy about something in life. This course is so OVERBOOKED every time. She'll yell at you for having a Golf cart too long but should pull her head out of where it's at and realize that the course is OVERBOOKED with a TON of people that are walking and holding things up! Pay attention Instead of coming out yelling as we're approaching the back 9 and embarrassing my Group in front of other people for " having the carts too long " as if we were playing slow. Be happy that we're the ones making the most out of the course by paying to play the 18, paying to rent the carts and buying your food and drinks as opposed to so many overbooked WALKERS that you have. It's a great small course to definitely start off and improve your game but you can't even enjoy a weekend day here or even bring someone that wants to learn how to play without feeling like someone's breathing down your neck. ESPECIALLY that blonde lady that just feeds bad energy all over the place. She gave me the " here, we move things at a certain pace and it shouldn't take... Blah blah blah... " Yea stop OVERBOOKING and worrying about renting the carts out as much as possible. Charge me an extra 20 to hold on to it longer if you're gonna WHINE about it. I don't have time to listen to you. Oh wait, I do have time because YOU'RE OVERBOOKED and I have to sit in my cart with my feet kicked up while we wait on other backed up groups. If you bring someone here to show them the ropes, expect them to have an unpleasant and rushed experience. Very unprofessional. But Just the BLONDE TATTED girl. Everyone else is cool. My favorite course in Modesto. They are fairly priced as well. They have a driving range and putting green.

Luv golfing here. Let's of recent improvements. I'd give it 5 stars if it wasn't for that marshall that keeps harassing me and my friend.

We absolutely love River Oaks. It's a very fun course to play. We just picked up golfing again a couple months ago and we try to get out there at least 5 days a week. Front 9 is all par 3's which makes it very nice for beginners. Back 9 is more challenging and scenic. Nice driving range and chipping/putting area too. The staff is friendly and the grounds keeper is constantly working on the course. read more

I went golfing this weekend with my friends. I was in a team of five people. And we got split up. Totally understood the rules and We where okay with it. What aggravates me was the lack of professionalism from the clubhouse staff. I had a reservation teatime for 2 PM and had to wait an entire hour to start golfing due to over bookings(what was shared to us by the clubhouse staff). Once we started Marshall came over to our playing hall and rudely told us that we shouldn't be playing and that we had to wait for the team behind us when we where a team of 3 at that point. Very disappointed as I have been playing here for the last 5 years. I guess I'm going to be taking my business elsewhere. read more

Convenience, consistency, and friendly service matter most at the end of a complicated week. I have been to River Oaks Golf Course quite a bit in the last few months and could confidently say their consistency is admirable: staff service is always friendly and great, greens are well kept, course is challenging but not too difficult, priced so that golfers could go out once a week (or more). River Oaks' big ticket seller is that it's ideal for the last minute "Let's get a round of golf in today". Not complicated or pretentious, just fun! read more

Went out there today for the first time in a long time because I had heard the course was getting fixed up and I wanted to see how it looked and whether it would be a good place for my daughter to get some lessons. Played the front nine and hit some balls. The course looked pretty good and the range balls were better than at McHenry. The reason for the bad review is that there was construction going on to the building and the workers were very loud and the language was terrible. Now the language wasn't anything I haven't heard a million times, but it was the fact that there are a bunch of kids around taking lessons and practicing and these guys are just blasting off. A couple of course employees were around and didn't think anything of it. The basics were F this and F that. Retar* this and retar* that. Also talking about how woman look, while not more than fifteen feet away is a little girl there for her lesson. Needless to say, I will look elsewhere for lessons for my daughter. read more

I really enjoyed golfing here. I had great experiences, I also brought many players. It's a shame what they did to me. I brought my kids to play with me today. They have their own clubs, they prob aren't the best, but they can play. I called before I got there and they said kids are fine, they are 8$ each. I came brown there and the lady said we can't play because she was nervous they'd get hit by golf ball?! That was her excuse. It's a shame that they turned us away, little did she know I had just golfed there with my kids 2 days before. Sometimes you never know who you are dealing with. I'm owner of 5 local restaurants and will never endorse this club. It's a shame. read more

Golf course it's self is nice and enjoyable, currently under some construction but that wasn't a big issue. However the older Marshal was very unwelcoming, from when we got there he was just watching us, approached our group multiple times every time he had something to say. Felt like he was just watching us and being nit picky trying to find something to say to us. Didn't even finish the course because of it. The business lost money from our part bc of him. read more

River Oaks is a great golf course and I would highly recommend it to anyone. They take pride in the course and entire facility. Their prices are the best in the area and you really can't beat it. The front 9 are all par 3 and for a new golfer like myself they are challenging, but attainable. Back 9 is slightly more challenging with a few par 4's and extra places to loose a ball or 2. After the last flood of the back nine, this course took a nosedive for a couple of years. In particular, the greens were no better than the fairways and virtually unplayable. The un-flooded front nine was no better. Kudos to the management and ground crew for turning this course around 100%. Not only are the greens now as good as Modesto's other muni's, some of the holes have been lengthened with plans for more, and several landscaping touches have enhanced the overall appeal. If you've never played this executive style course or haven't played it recently, you are missing out on a very nice addition to Modesto's golfing community. read more

After hearing River Oaks was under new ownership, and that the new owners had really turned the course around, I finally made it out there. My friends and I played all 18 holes and were so impressed with the course and staff. Our day started with a warm greeting from the girl at the counter (I think her name was Jasmine). She was very patient and helped us get going. We jumped in to our golf cart and away we went. The course was beautiful! I'd go as far as saying it is the best course around for non professional golfers like us. If you haven't played here, or if it has been a few years like it was for me, you've got to get back out to River Oaks. They've made tons of improvements to the course and buildings. They've even added a new event space! I'd definitely recommend River Oaks to all the golfers in the area! read more

I mean. I give it 2 stars but its not that bad. For what you pay, it serves its purpose. Rather than running on a treadmill, you can walk around with your golfbag on your back or push it on a cart and play 9 holes for around 10 bucks or as many holes you want for 20??? Its ideal if you are a beginner and want to start learning how to golf on the field after some practice at the range or if you are super rusty like I was and wanted to hit some short irons at a target rather than at a driving range. I went on a weekday around midday and I was the only one there on the course. I saw a couple of others as I was nearing the end of my short 9 hole day. The first 9 holes are all par 3 courses. The back nine looks like it has some par 4s mixed in, but I didn't even know where it was located. read more

Just finished 18 and we had a great time. The back nine looks awesome, very scenic and it's obvious the new ownership is turning this place around. The price was right and we finished fairly quickly. This is a nice spot if you want take in a quick round and work on the ball striking. I don't typically except Del Rio greens at smaller courses such as this one so I wasn't let down by the least. The frisbee golfers were cool and I like seeing the numbers out there to support this locally owned spot. #Hit-'em straight!! read more

This golf course is great. Let it be noted that I know nothing about golf. So for me and my buddies this is a great place for the range. The bucket of balls for the range is a great price compared to the other local ranges I have been to. Overall if you want to go to a golf range that is nearby in Ceres this is the one to go to! It's near other places like Walmart and there is tons of food around for after. But during there is a small kitchen that they have. I have yet to try the actual food but the snacks, drinks, and candy are reasonably priced. Great place for someone who knows nothing about golf! read more
