This doctor was clear, calm and didn't rush through the appointment which I always notice. They went over my past info, asked questions that showed they were really trying to understand my situation and talked about what could be done going forward. I liked that they didn't talk over me or use too much medical talk. They explained things well and were honest about what I should expect. Been a patient for over 2+ years now. I have had back issues and severe back pull when moving between houses, lifting heavy items, due to which I could not bend properly. I have visited them months apart for a different back pain. After the first adjustment, it starts getting better and after few consecutive visits, the pain goes away. Finding appointments is easy since they are quite accommodating, also well organized. Treatment starts with hot water bag therapy and then massage which is really soothing. They really know how to touch the pain points and ease the pain. After the massage, Doctor will pay a visit, ask questions and do adjustments. Don't be afraid of noises, but it feels really good. Came in here for a quick adjustment, my neck, back and hip are stiff and in pain. Doctor came in to do a very quick adjustment, before I could even get up and feel how my body is doing, he already left, didn't care to ask if the adjustment was ok or if there's any additional adjustment needed. A day later my neck is feeling better, but my back is still hurting. I would not want to come back again. Also, I didn't see much COVID-19 safety practice. The clinic had 3 patients waiting in the tiny waiting area plus at least 3 staffs (with front door closed). They close the door when doing the treatment, if you are concerned, don't come. read more

I had been here for chiropractic adjustment as I had neck pain. Dr.Payne treated me with very little adjustment on neck. He was there for 2mins max. He didn't bother to check on my spine and asked me to follow up in the later that week. Seriously?! I don't have chronic pain - I used to go to another chiropractor once in 3-4 weeks before moving to San Jose i.e., I was on a maintenance phase for the past one year. I had clearly mentioned this to Dr.Payne that I don't need frequent adjustments. After the adjustment, I started getting nausea for the next 2 days. Later, to get this fixed, I had to go to another chiropractor. 2 stars is only for the massage. The lady was pretty good with the massage. This is just another money reaping place which asks asks for unnecessary follow-ups. I don't recommend chiro here! read more

Full disclosure: I've only been here once, and I live within an easy walking distance. Though, I've lived here long enough that I've sought more-distant chiropractics at doctor recommendations. That said, I dropped by earlier this week for an injury that's going on five years, diagnosed. Recently, it had become bad, again -- enough that every day was painful, just getting out of bed. Intake was pretty easy, as-was connecting our insurance. Treatment included a meeting with the doctor, followed by heating pads and electro-stimulus therapy, and a DEEP massage. Doctor came back, and did what adjustments he thought necessary. Two days later, and I'm still out of pain... I can still feel being "tight," but the pain is much improved. I go back next week for "an update." So far, so good... a MUCH better experience than my chiropractor from five years ago. I'd recommend them for the massage, alone! read more

Before I moved to San Jose, I bought a maintenance package as I like to stay on top of my mobility!!! So I'm shopping around for a great chiropractor and this place was my 1st spot since I moved down the street from them. The one star is for the cleanliness, amazing back heat and massage. The Dr. came in and asked some questions. He adjusted my neck 1st and I didn't even know he was going to adjust my neck. He adjusted everything so fast and that was it. I had to ask him if he could adjust my shoulder ribs too cause it was still hurting and he said that he did. I had to point out where it needs adjustment and it had a deep crack. Then he walked away. I went to the front and a package was offered and it's was a great deal. $45 per adjustment or $150 for 5 adjustment. If the experience was great, I would've gotten the package deal in a heart beat. My only thing is, spend a little bit more time with your patients and take your time adjusting too and not rush it. Y'all didn't do any X-rays on me. Oh well, good luck to y'all read more

The entire staff is very friendly, and accommodating. I went for my first visit 3 weeks ago. I actually stopped by one day and as they were actually closed, Dr. Payne saw me peeking through the door and was kind enough to talk with me... and after letting Dr. Payne know I was experiencing back stiffness he was able to squeeze me into the schedule the next day. When I was called in I was informed that I would get a muscle stimulation and a massage to address my back stiffness/soreness. I believe each lasted for about 10 min. After the massage, Dr. Payne came in and did an adjustment, which was my first experience. Oh, I never imagined that I would hear so much cracking, which was very satisfying. I immediately could feel the difference as I felt lighter, and my posture also felt more improved. They are amazing! From the front desk, to the masseuse, to the chiropractor, the whole staff is awesome. They make every effort to fit you in, are very responsive, and highly skilled in their chiro services. After having gone to them consistently, I have been noticing great improvements, and this is coming from someone who has been going to chiropractors for at least a decade. I have been having mid-back muscle pains after sleeping for more than 4 hours, enough to make me so uncomfortable that I have to get up and walk around before laying back down to go back to sleep. It could be my bed, but it's only a year old memory foam bed. Whatever the case, I needed help! I found this place on yelp, seeing they do adjustments and also give massages. My first session was when I couldn't turn my head or move my arm without neck and shoulder pain. And I swear, after the first session, I had no more pain! I have been continuing weekly sessions for a month and a half and I've been sleeping more than 4 hours without any issues. :) What to expect? They start off with heat packs on your back for 10 minutes, then one of the massage therapists will work on your back for 10 minutes (you can let them know where to focus and how much pressure to use). Then one of the Dr. Payne comes in to do a few adjustments... Btw, my favorite massage therapist is Claudia. She will ask for focus areas and works it to the point where my eyes tear up from pain... GOOD pain... and she also knows exactly where I'm tense or where my knots are... she's so awesome. But be warned, you might be sore the next day... GOOD sore... lol read more

Insurance allows 20visit a year and I often use it during snowboard season for an adjustments or home improvement or just daily stress. I left a voice mail in the morning and Jesica is very accommodating with short notice. She got me an apt same day. The ladies give 10min massage, you don't get a choice who you get but today I had Sonia (she's took care of me as she always do) and Dr. Payne comes in and adjust you. Walllaaa I'm feeling good!!! Larry and Brian Payne, along with their fantastic massage team, make you feel like family. A typical appointment includes a ten minute heat pack in a low lit, comfortable room, where soft music is playing. Then one of the massage therapists, most of whom have been employed at River Oaks for years, give you a ten minute massage. These massages are not your typical "foo foo" spa massages. These are more like sports massages that really get the kinks out. Just let the therapists know how deep to massage. One of the doctors then finish you off with a nice adjustment. I have been going for 15+ years. I opt for the extended twenty minute massage which gives more time to get those multiple pesky stress points out of my system. River Oaks Chiro takes most all insurance carriers. The fact that most of the therapist employees have been with the Payne Brothers for many years speaks volumes about how they take care of their employees and their patients. read more

So a few days after our Chiropractic visits hubby and I started to discuss our experiences. After a few days my hubby went to the doctor's office because his back pain didn't go away. When he sought out the medical doctor's advice on his back, he was prescribed muscle relaxants and pain killers. I still don't know what was wrong with his back, but an interesting comment the doctor made was, "You went to the Chiropractor? They should've never taken you without knowing what was wrong with your back first. They could've injured you further." WOW... interesting revelation because I started to think about my experience that day. Yes he asked about my back pain and my concerns and I've been adjusted before, but not by them, I was a new patient; and I expected to have a much more in depth first client consultation. I didn't know what the next steps were, I was never told what was needing adjustment, what I can do to ease the pain, etc. I had to ask all these, but I still felt like its something that needs to be discussed after the adjustment and if I had no idea about anything then I'd be walking away uneducated about my back problems. What I would expect as a first time patient: -Introduction to the massage therapist by the doctor: "This is so an so...and she will be giving you a 10 minute massage to help to relax your muscles and allow for a much smoother adjustment. After that I will be coming in and adjusting your back. -During the adjustment I would've like to have known what was being adjusted and why, what is wrong with my back and what things I can do to make it better. -After the adjustment: A basic and quick prescription of what I can do on a daily basis to make things a bit better to relieve some pressure. I don't know if I'll be coming back again. I enjoyed my visit and it was a great deal, but I just wish they could explain things a little more in depth. You've got to love a chiro practice with Drs. Payne and Payne! I had always been a skeptic about chiropractic, until no fewer than a DOZEN coworkers and their friends recommended this practice to me, 8 years ago. I didn't (and don't really to this day) know how it works and have a general fear of it...yet...they were able to solve some horrible back spasming that resulted from too many trans-Atlantic flights, and I've been hooked ever since. I since referred dozens of friends--work injuries, car accidents, general stress, you name it, friends all love these guys for the relief. Since I have never been to another chiropractor, and would hesitate to do so, I cannot say how they differ, beyond anecdotally, from others. One thing I know if different from what I have heard is the straightforward, no hassle approach. Nobody has ever tried to upsell me anything, like xrays or electrotherapy. You go in, get your heat to loosen you up, massage (I buy the very reasonable extra massage for 15 minutes), they crack you and you go. If there are particular areas of pain, they've got tricks for that and will work with you. While they took care of the back spasm 8 years ago, a wonky hip thing (related to lower back issue) and a few bad headaches, the best approach for me is to go regularly and keep "maintained." With the extended, intense deep tissue massage, and an appointment every three weeks or so, I experience far less back pain. They have a super friendly staff and appear to treat them very well. It's a total family in there, and I like supporting that. They take a lot of insurances and seem to work the nuances of the providers pretty well. The occassional billing foo foo has occurred, and they've been exceptionally responsive in working out the entire problem--immediately--for me. Occassionally, things back up in the waiting room and appointments can run late, so do ask to be booked for a less busy time/day if that is an issue, although they've worked on this issue over the years. read more

I started coming here for back and neck pain that I incurred during a car accident and fell in love with this place. I even increased my visits to twice per week ! Every single time I arrived the receptionist greeted me by first name and welcomed me back. The massuses are amazing, Claudia is my favorite. If your the type to really enjoy the deep tissue massages and get a little roughed up then go to her. She will leave you feeling like you got beat up the next day but it works wonders on the pain relief. I had others that were lot lighter on the massages but the pain didn't really subside as much. Both Larry and Bryan Payne (doctors) are super easy to talk to and great at what they do. I loved the adjustments at the end of the visit. These definitely helped with the pain and allowed me to sleep better at night. The only reason I stopped going was because I had to close out my claim so that I could finalize my accident settlement. Unfortunately my insurance provider didn't cover Chiro and I wasn't able to afford it on my own. They truly care about your over well being and its clear they will try whatever it is that they can to help you feel like a different person! read more

When you first walk in, you will notice that the office is nicely decorated with a very relaxing feel. Staff is friendly and after several visits, I felt that I we had a good established repoire. I tend to come on the same days and generally get the same massage therapist, who is quite friendly and remembers our conversations from previous visits. Treatment rooms are clean, uncluttered and relaxing. Each visit starts with a nice warm heat treatment for about 10 minutes, followed by a massage for about 15 minutes. By the time the doctor comes, I am relaxed and ready for my adjustment. Both doctors are cordial and quick about their treatment, which I appreciate. I have been to offices where I am given tons of advice and ways to "improve my life" which is not what I go to the chiropractor for. River Oaks Chiropractic is reliable for taking care of my aches and pains and that is why I continue to come back. I live in the East Bay and have had ongoing back problems since 2005. I had just started a new job in San Jose when I threw my back out due to my own horrible posture. Seeing as I couldn't take any time off since I literally JUST STARTED, I needed to find a chiropractor in the area that was affordable and that could fit into my 8 am to 5 pm work schedule. LUCKY FOR ME! I found River Oaks. THANKS GOOGLE! What got me in the door was the fact that their office is only about 5 minutes away from my new job, and that they offered a coupon for a free consultation/exam on your first visit. The other blessing about River Oaks is the fact that they are open until 7 pm Tuesdays and Thursdays, and once a month on Saturdays! This is rare, as my chiropractor at home closes at 3 pm, and isn't open on weekends. Also, for those of us without insurance, they offer a package of visits for a discounted rate. Since I knew I was going to be going for a few weeks, this was a great deal for me. So needless to say, I printed out the coupon, made an appointment and went in. To be honest, I can't remember which Dr. Payne I saw first (I STILL LOVE YOU GUYS), but I explained my prior problems with my discs and fractures, and told him about the problems I was having at the time. I must've pinched my sciatic nerve cuz I had horrible pain that I've never had before in all my life. My leg would completely collapse from under me. Since falling down outside of my job is frowned upon, I needed to get it fixed, PRONTO! I love the treatment you get at River Oaks. You start off with a heat treatment, and I asked to use the TENS machine (my secret love) since I've used it before, and they were more than happy to hook me up (literally, lol). After that, you get a 10-15 minute massage from one of the lovely ladies. Each one brings her own unique touch, so if you like one girl in particular, make sure to find out her name so you can ask when she's working again. After your massage, the doctor comes in and gives you a quick adjustment. I've noticed other people complaining about how the adjustments are "too quick" and blah blah blah, but you have to remember, you've just had 2 treatments (heat and massage) in the past 20 minutes from trained massage therapists, what more do you want the doctor to do? When I had questions about my pain, or wanted them to adjust something that I thought was important, the doctors would always accommodate me. Had my second visit and arrived on time for my appointment. Everything was great with the service of checking in, and being assigned to a room but when the 2nd doctor arrived, he wa stone cold, unlike the first doctor. From the reaction I got from him was that I was wasting his time. He cracked my neck and afterwards he asked me is I wanted him to crack my back, which I did but he did it so quick, I could tell he wanted to leave. I hope he doesn't act this way next time.
