Just stopped here because they have a dog-friendly patio, which was right along the river and so beautiful. I went with the reviews and had the French toast. It was EXCELLENT! Thanks, Yelpers. Almond encrusted with some whipped orange marmalade of some sort. Husband had the country-fried steak and reported that it was so-so because it was greasy (we normally eat venison and fish). Service was friendly and helpful. The hotel seemed very nice. If we need a hotel in the future out here, we'll choose this one. read more

We just stopped for lunch and had a great meal. From the courteous service to the wonderful river view, this place really delivered. Our server Isaac was incredibly attentive and thoughtful. Service was extremely slow. Waitress brought delicious onion rings to our table without providing napkins, utensils, or plates. We asked for all and got cup saucers for plates with napkins and utensils. We'd already made such a mess that I cleaned it up with a napkin and asked for another. Got that, but the dirty napkin wasn't removed. Salad came with the wrong dressing, fortunately served on the side. Service was extremely slow. My friend's main course meat dip sandwich was overcooked but tasty. My hamburger was so overcooked that it was crunchy on the edges. I've never before had a crunchy hamburger. So slow, so disappointing. My two stars are for the beautiful view up and down the Columbia. We were road weary and would have taken a walk on the beautiful beach if service had been faster. read more

We have stayed here before, and really like the setting and the ambiance. I don't recall this from the last time we were there, but this time (over the 4th holiday) our bed was super hard and the pillows were not comfortable (lumpy foam things). We ended up checking out a night early (3 out of 4) because the bed made my husband's back hurt so much. I like a hard bed, but this was even too hard for me. Still love the location and the staff are super nice. Just get beds with a pillow top or something. Maybe we'll try it again and bring my own memory foam mattress topper. read more

The food is good but a bit over priced for what you get. The salads are ok - large but mostly lettuce. The fettuccine has the out-of-the-box flavor. And let's face it, $14- $18 for a dish that's about $5 to make is crazy. The steaks are $27 but not the quality you receive at the steakhouses. But, the view is gorgeous and the wait staff is good. The wait is a bit long but nothing less than what one expects when sitting down to eat a freshly prepared meal. Overall a pleasant, albeit expensive, experience. read more

We drove through on the way to Pendleton and it was the dinner hour. The name of the place sounded good so we took a chance in spite of the so-so reviews from others. Except for the too speedy pacing of courses, the service was excellent. I ordered some apps and they showed up w/ soup & salad. Yikes - I just got my wine, dude! My boyfriend ordered the clam chowder & said it was excellent. My simple mixed iceberg w/ blue cheese dressing on side was very fresh. Good bread, with baked-on cheese baguette. Classy. Dinner came - Prime Rib w/ nice rub, the chefs secret spices. BBQ ribs - meaty baby backs with a nice sauce - 'Sweet Baby Rays' sauce I later found out. My baked beans were wonderful and I usually don't like beans since they're too sweet. Not these- I found out the chef uses the BBQ sauce in them, also. Very pleasant! Impressed that the waiter could explain the preparations - good training except for the pacing but there were very few customers there, also. I highly recommend this restaurant and would consider staying in the Lodge, also. Very peaceful!! read more

An excellent place to relax and watch the River while enjoying a fabulous meal. Service is great. Clam chowder bread bowl is one of my favorites. I eat here often as I am a local. This is a great place to stay if you're in the area. I need to be in Boardman every other month and always try to get a room here. The breakfasts are very good and if you get the chance, try the French Toast! Very nice view of the river with some walking/hiking options. I've seen Mt. Hood way off in the distance over the river on clear days. read more

All I can say is, what a disappointment! While the location was nice and the room adequate, the service left much room for improvement. The front desk staff, in particular, was unprofessional and uninformed. When I made my reservation online, I requested a double queen. When I arrived, I was informed that their ADA room was only a single king. Seeing as how the front desk clerk didn't know what ADA stands for (even when I informed her during a confirmation phone call, prior to my trip) and the supervisor was less than enthusiastic about helping me during check-in, I settled for the king, with a fold out couch. (I guess visitors with disabilities usually travel alone??!) My final impression after checking out the next day was....how unfortunate the owners of this establishment are not taking advantage of their location by providing a really superior customer experience. While most of their clientele is probably fishermen, they should expect, being so close to the highway, that they would have other travelers as well. Needless to say, while I travel this route frequently, I won't be staying here again. read more

The restaurant is plain awful. We had lunch there made of uncooked chicken strips, cold soggy French fries, and coleslaw made with so much cayenne pepper that will make most people cry. We were told that it is because their cook is in training. I am wondering who is training that cook to do such a horrible job? The service was very slow - we waited for our meal 35-40 minutes. The waiter did not check on us promptly if everything was satisfactory with our meal. We were sitting outside - we had to pull our chairs to the table ourselves. Chairs were dirty. The hotel and restaurant are located in a gorgeous location by the river. It breaks my heart to see how this place with the great potential is totally ruined by poor management and unqualified personnel. read more

What a hidden treasure out in a tiny town in Oregon! The hotel is like a resort and very well kept. It looks so new to me but I don't know when this was built. There is a walking trail, a small beach, 24-hour fitness, etc. Such a nice place for a retreat, getaway, or other events. Recently had a poor experience at the hotel. First - the hotel is fantastic. Always clean and beautiful. I've stayed there many times, and had great experiences. Myself and most of my company drive an extra 30 minutes to stay at this hotel, rather than the local one. This experience wasn't so good. I had made 2 online reservations; for Monday and Wednesday night... planned on returning home for Tuesday night. Plans changed and I didn't have to return. When I checked in on Monday, I arranged with the front desk to stay Mon -Wed. They had to put me in another room, but that was fine. I stayed Monday night and left for work. Received call that I didn't have a room on Tuesday night and there were no rooms available. I had to drive back to the hotel, pick up my bag and stuff, drive almost 3 hours back home and back the next day. That really wasn't a big deal... but the manager on duty was less than apologetic. Thankfully, the young lady who had changed my reservation the day prior took full ownership and was VERY sorry. I would have expected the manager to say sorry, but she never did, and really tried to blame ME for making the online reservations. I was never offered any type of compensation. If fact, I cancelled my Wed. night reservation, and got a sarcastic comment from the manager. Very disappointing. read more

Second review and I'm going to have to remove a couple of stars. Last time we were here in March, I had made reservations for the eve of the eclipse. I asked the front desk attendant if we could reserve a river side room. I saw her click away on the computer and found a room. She cheerfully complied and assured me it would stick. So... fast forward to the eclipse, and sure enough they had me down with a view of the parking lot. I explained when I made the reservation. She said, "well you made your reservation on Expedia" so no guarantees. It was evident someone went in and changed our reservation, possibly because we reserved it on Expedia. It was not worth arguing with the poor girl at the desk. I knew their place was now packed. Settled in the room which are still quite clean and large. However no drinking glasses. Then off for dinner. We knew not to have high expectations. We were quickly seated and orders taken. Then the wait. Over an hour and the waitress came by with an apology that they were busier than expected and had to call in extra help. (didn't they know they were packed for the eclipse??) finally served at 1hr 20min. I tried to stay real main stream with a burger. My wife had the House Pasta with Alfredo. My burger was burned, the pasta was half cooked, half over cooked, covered in canola oil. No creamy alfredo sauce. When leaving, 2 other empty tables full of dishes where everyone left uneaten fries. It wasn't just us. This place has such potential but I attribute both our negative experiences to management. Don't think we'll be back. read more

Ready to wait over an hour for bland, overcooked food? Brought my family in after a long day on the road. My 8 and 12 year old kids were in good spirits but hungry and ready to have a bite and hit the pool. We put our order in a few minutes before 8:00 p.m, expecting to be fed and out the door within an hour or so. 45 minutes later the waitress offered to send out the bowls of chowder but the rest of the food would have to wait. By 9:00 p.m. they finally produced a small, bland pizza and a couple of fish tacos with breaded and deep fried overcooked cod. At this point there were fewer than 20 patrons left in the entire restaurant. Not exactly peak rush hour! I confronted the waitress to let her know that letting her tables wait an hour for their food for no good reason was unacceptable. She apologized and mentioned being short staffed but judging by the leisurely pace and casual conversations the line cooks were involved in, I don't think my experience was much different than many other patrons, including the couple next to us who were also waiting over an hour for a slice of prime rib. After spending the better part of a week in Bend, OR experiencing amazing food and friendly prompt service, the River Grill helped remind me not to take a great restaurant for granted. read more

Our first visit to this restaurant was last night we are RVing adjacent to this restaurant and it was convenient. My husband had the rib steak which he said was tasty I had the filet mignon medallions which were tasty and the broccoli was good , potatoes ok. . The View was amazing the only problem was there was only one server and she could not I repeat could not dedicate herself to all the tables our drinks went dry and we weren't asked for dessert . IT was a Saturday night so management did not plan accordingly because she was very busy I felt sad for her we did leave her a good tip but we did not get good service because she could not get all the food orders taken or delivered in a timely manner and accommodate everyone as they should be accommodated. Management needs to step it up and have the shifts covered appropriately. We will return and hope that it will be better the second time. read more

Horrible service. Been here multiple times and every time it is a very frustrating experience. The food is decent but high priced and not great, the service makes this experience terrible. Every time we go there it is consistent in the fact that it gets worse and we somehow forget why we don't go there and six months later when we try again, it's worse than the last time. It's a nice place with a great view and would have so much potential if they could get the service aspect right. An hour to get your food is unacceptable when there are two other tables that came in after you and are finished eating before you are served. No refills, forever to get your check, no substitutions. My husband and I were married at the port building just next door. The Riverfront view is gorgeous, other than that it's not exceptional. I had reserved a specific room, a honeymoon suite with a view of the sunset. There was another couple that had there wedding ceremony at the Riverfront on the same day. The Riverfront gave our reserved room with the view of the sunset to the other couple! One of our friends had our wedding gift placed inside our reserved room before we checked in. Needless to say the other couple ate our wedding gift despite our names being on the gift! And we ended up in a different suite. I wasn't pleased but was too tired. I'll never do business there again! read more

We made reservations as we would be passing throuh on vacation, and this was the first leg. The lodge was excellent, freindly staff, clean rooms, pool, spa, sauna, and restaurant. The lodge was a fair value, the restaurant was okay. I had the special, tilapia and wife had califormia chicken. The fish was excellent, but the chicken overcooked. Staff was freindly, The unit is on the river, away from the highway, and a good quite place to stay. Had breakfast the next morning, it was a long time coming, sat on the warmer, as it appeared they were understaffed. One waitress that did the seating, took and delivered orders, and bused the tables. Skip the juice, my OJ was more of an orange drink. They would do better to have adequate staff for breakfast, people waited and orders sat. We would stat again. read more

When heading east from the Portland, OR area with a late morning departure, the River Lodge & Grill has proved to be a pleasant stopping point for a nice lunch in pleasant, quiet surroundings. Nice view of the Columbia River ... a wide reservoir restrained by the John Day dam several miles down river. The luncheon menu offers a variety of sandwiches and salads. (We've never been here for breakfast or dinner.) Service has always been satisfactory. There's outside seating, but before choosing to sit outside, consider the wind conditions, as it can get rather breezy so close to the river. Very clean and modern facility. read more

First and last time that I will be eating at the Grill. After a long drive, my wife and I were searching for a place to eat dinner. We saw an advertisement for River Resort Lodge and Grill and decided to give it a try. The grounds of the resort and the restaurant had a very nice appearance. What a mistake! I ordered the grilled pork loin with apple chutney. What arrived was two 1/4" over cooked pan fried pork chops that would not have made a good sunscreen for a solar eclipse. They were tough, tasteless and combined weight of 3 ounces. Included were two whole sprigs of broccolini and a wad some semi tasteless mashed potatoes. The wait staff was pleasant, but the food was very slow coming out of the kitchen due to the cook, as we could see the kitchen. Other patrons were looking towards the kitchen also waiting for their food. Save your money, visit someplace, any place else! Only reason I'm giving this place one star is because I can't rate it lower! read more

it used to be great when matt was there supervisor but was terrible after he left not sure what happen but i would go back if matt was managing it again no one else can tell you anything about how the food is prepared or anything about the wines havent been back since but ill keep checking back on it when i travel through but probably wont be stopping by :( read more
