A lowkey gem in Milford with good food and a great location. Breakfast (served all day by the way!) was very good and filling. The caramel macchiato was amazing and had a "fall candle" type of flavor to it which I loved. Service was prompt and attentive. Only problem may be limited space as it was somewhat cramped on a Wednesday afternoon so may be problematic on a weekend.

Great location along a meandering river that winds its way through Milford on its way to the Delaware River. In nice weather the outdoor covered deck would be an ideal place to enjoy a leisurely breakfast or lunch. On a rainy day like we had, eating indoors was the only practical option. The choices are fairly traditional egg, pancake and waffle plates in the morning, with their "American Breakfast," the most popular and filling. My son went for that and he couldn't finish the two eggs, meat, home fries and waffle that were brought to him on multiple dishes. He was totally sated. I went with one of their DIY 3 egg omelets (scrapple, cheddar, onion, pepper with the hash browns thrown in), and rye toast. It was quite the load, and beyond my capacity to consume completely. It needed a little kick in the pants, so several shakes of Texas Pete's hot sauce was applied. Filling for sure, but still not all that tasty, and I remembered why scrapple is not a favorite of mine-just a little textural and slightly off flavor that I had forgotten in the long interregnum between samplings. Ironic that we had three table side visits from staff inquiring about our satisfaction, yet they never offered to refill our coffee mugs. How does that happen? So, although the house was warm, clean and friendly, the display of form over function was noticed and not designed to bring us back for another visit. 3.5 Stars

On a recent trip to Maryland and Delaware, we knew we would be driving through Milford early in the morning, so we checked out Yelp to see if there was a good place to grab breakfast. We saw River Lights Cafe and decided it would be a good start to the little drive we had that day. We really enjoyed our quick stop here. The service was good, and very quick, and the breakfast we great! I personally had the Huevos Rancheros which was wonderful! My wife had a breakfast sandwich that she really enjoyed as well. Definitely worth a stop for breakfast, and I think ti would be an ever better spot when it is a bit warmer outside as they have a very nice little outdoor seating area right by the river. Give River Lights Cafe a shot if you happen to be in the Milford, DE area!

The food and service was excellent I will be definitely making this my new go to. I had pancakes scrapped eggs home fries and bacon.

Not impressed with lunch. Perhaps breakfast is their strong suit? We came late, only one other 2-top occupied in this small dining room (seats just over 20 at 10 tables). There was debate between the server seating us and the manager (not in English, but I understand Spanish) about whether we could sit at the 3-top next to the window because "it's supposed to be for 3 people." We sat down anyway. We ordered a cheeseburger, chicken quesadilla, and a chicken taco. The fries served with were excellent. The burger was large and good. The other food was bland (nothing served to accompany the taco of chicken, lettuce and tomato with a slice of lime, or with the quesadilla--no salsa, no sour cream, nada).

It took a few for minutes for our server to come to the table. She was not overly friendly but seemed to be okay. We ordered a Bacon Omelette with potatoes and wheat toast and a BLT breakfast sandwich. Food was out in a reasonable amount of time, brought by someone from the kitchen. The food was good, nothing great but decent. We did have a cinnamon roll and it was absolutely delicious. We never saw our server again, she never checked on us, and I would have liked some more tea and some more jelly. We waited about 2o minutes to get our bill after we were done, our plates neatly put together and sitting on the table and she never came to our table. We went up other her ask for our check and she told us to just pay at the cash register. So, all in all, not a great experience. I saw other waitresses who were attentive to their tables so I think it was just our waitress. I didn't see her around much so maybe she was doing something else, making coffee's or something. I think the fact that she did not want to bring our bill was the worst. With all the good options around I am not sure I will be retuning but it is worth a try to make your opinion.

I was driving from Bucks County to Newport News to visit family over the New Year's holiday and Surf was my first stop about a third of the way to my destination. I wanted to buy a half dozen for the family to enjoy for the next few days. I hadn't counted on the Christmas break causing this shop to be full on a Tuesday morning and low on bagel inventory. But, it was, so my options were limited. My first choices (onion and sesame) were gone, so it fell to secondary availability to meet the need. A few garlic, poppy and plain rounders would have to do. Still, these were quite good; well textured semi-hard skin with softer chewy bread within. Taste was forceful (particularly the garlic) and with toasting, cream cheese or butter and slice of Gruyère, enjoyable. Strong brewed coffee complemented it as hoped. Service was friendly and helpful and appropriately apologetic for lacking my desired flavors. Not their fault that they were so busy on a holiday week. Good for them. Surf is definitely a bagel stop to make on a quieter day when they wouldn't be nearly sold out before noon! 4 Fat Bagel Stars
