In searching for a new chiropractor, I posted in a local Facebook group asking for recommendations. Alexis Martinez, co-owner of this practice, responded and invited me to send her a direct message. Because I do not like pricing surprises, I asked specifically about costs. Alexis told me that the initial exam is $97 and that follow-up visits typically range from $25 to $70, depending on a patient's needs. That pricing was within my budget, so I submitted an online scheduling request. The next day, I received a call from a staff member named Kelly, who explained that if you do not have x-rays taken within the past year, the initial visit requires an additional $100 for x-rays. This increased the cost of the first visit to $197. I was shocked, as that was double the price Alexis told me, and I've never been required to get x-rays to be treated by a chiropractor. However, it got worse when I learned that the initial visit does not include an adjustment. If you want to receive an adjustment during that first appointment, there is another $100 charge, bringing the total to $297. At this point, I chose not to book because this was far above what Alexis quoted me. I contacted Alexis, who apologized and said she was "mortified." She stated that her husband, who is also a co-owner, was contacting the office manager to find out what was going on. She also explained that the employee I spoke with was very new and initially indicated that I had been given incorrect information. The next day, the office manager, Kim, contacted me "to clear up any confusion." Yet, she told me that Kelly's explanation was accurate and reflects how the practice normally operates, although she stated they would honor the pricing Alexis originally provided "as a courtesy." Based on that assurance, I went ahead and scheduled my initial appointment for a couple of days later. Because I was concerned about future costs, I called back and asked what adjustments would cost after the initial visit. Kim told me that individual adjustments are $100 per visit unless you enroll in a care plan, but she would not provide even a general estimate of what those plans cost. She kept stating "it just depends on what the doctor recommends." This made me very uncomfortable and led me to read online reviews to better understand what treatment might actually cost. I'm glad I did, because multiple reviews report patients being charged over $1,000 for just one month of care. This pricing structure was dramatically different from the $25 to $70 follow-up range I was quoted directly by the co-owner, Alexis, so I attempted to reach back out to her to get clarity about pricing. I was truly hoping this was just a misunderstanding of some sort. However, I found that Alexis had "blocked" me on Facebook, so I could not directly message her. Sooo where do I start. Made an appt here because I have Scoliosis and chronic back issues - mostly managed with PT, massage, exercise and yoga, but thought I would give chiropractic care another try. I was a little worried because I wasn't sure what to expect at the first appt - x rays? Adjustment? How much is this going to cost??! But I got even more anxious and worried when they insisted on giving me a 'tour' of their heavily gimmicked and branded 'wellness' philosophy before I even saw a chiropractor. Now chiropractic care already has a lot to overcome in terms of there being lots of quacks out there - but this takes the cake. I felt I was entering some kind of weird millennial cult. I was waiting 40 minutes and I never even saw a doctor - and when I asked if I would be able to get treated today they couldn't give me a straight answer, but made a point of saying it was late and everyone left at 6! I rearranged my work schedule to make this appt - don't schedule at 5:15 if you can't actually do more than a mandatory 'tour.' What REALLY sent me running is the fact that NO ONE in the entire office was wearing a mask. So. I am expected to take ANY kind of health advice / info / care from an entire office NOT wearing masks? Like maybe they think their 5 essentials health model prevents Covid? Or maybe Covid doesn't exist in this office? Um, no thank you - ran like a bat out of hell out of this place. Started coming here in September 2022 with lower back pain. They examined me and showed me the problems I had with my spine with X-rays. Started their treatment regimen immediately. During this time I also received injections and pain meds from my pain management doctor to ease the back pain, but it only provided temporary relief. I've been coming to River City Wellness twice a week and with Dr Shawn's adjustments the pain is almost gone. It's now almost Christmas and I've been able to stay off the pain meds for almost a week now. I have been a patient for about 2 yrs or so and decided that for whatever reason I was well enough to stop care, well 7 months later my upper and lower back began to hurt to the point where I could not work or stand for long periods of time. I had waited to long between treatments to be seen. I was able to be seen I believe the day after I called for an appointment because that was the soonest I could get in which was better than the latter. Anyway I believe her name was Michelle. She was newer to the clinic because in prior visits she wasn't there but she was sympathized and empathic to my needs and could hear I was in pain. The place is super clean, I like the intent behind the mission there & what they stand for in regards to wholistic approach to health. However, it's clear this is a volume business will sign you up on agreement for extended treatments, the costs are much too high. I went in for a very specific issue with my knee, but the doctors were unable to treat it. After signing an agreement that locked my into a treatment plan, I was verbally told they knew my knee would get better within 30 days or I would get money back, it did not fix it & I didn't get any compensation back. I realized the treatment process wasn't changing, same routine & not isolating the issue. I had one DR in particular that really didn't have the strength to properly treat me on my visits with her, this made me feel uncomfortable with their capacity to actually treat the issue. I then began to realize this was a a very busy business, the time & attention to my treatment process seemed less tailored to me, & felt it would be better to find a new place. read more

My road to RCW begins with headaches. Years ago, I was diagnosed with chronic migraines: daily pain with all the mind-numbing that goes along with it, and my medicine was a little pill called Maxalt, priced at $30 apiece. I spent $10K in one year, seeing all varieties of headache specialists: doctors, dentists, chiros, sinus specialists, yogis, practitioners of ayurveda, therapy, reiki... and from there I researched, and experienced exotic adventures seeking health and wellness in the body, heart, mind, soul, and spirit, ultimately reaching the conclusion that I just had to go on living my life, and this life would be one with headaches. Somehow, I think my emotional "letting go" freed me from the physical suffering, and the headaches mysteriously went away. Recently, the headaches appeared more regularly. I suddenly had allergies too, and I got three colds in one year, leading to a blocked ear canal that lasted two months with all the disorientation that goes with it. I'm a dad now, with three kids bringing colds home from school, and so I thought it was an ordinary aging issue, and my attitude was to "tough it out." I am a warrior of the light, after all, and I have to set a strong example for my kids. Right? Well, maybe my stoic suppression of pain wasn't the type of "strength" they needed to see in me. In fact I think they value my tenderness. When I met Dr. T, and the team at RCW, I felt encouraged to invest more seriously in my self-care. They sent me home with a care kit, which gives me motivation daily to exercise and activate my spine. I'm on a thorough schedule of chiro care, starting with three adjustments per week, and then peeling off to two, one, and then probably occasional re-visits after that. I'm two months invested now. Feeling like a new man. Along with my strengthening body comes strengthening my mind, I feel, as I see my business up-leveling, and my emotional state seems tuned up too. Each of the chiropractors seems fascinated with their practice, generous with their gifts, eager to support people, trusting of the idea that the body is equipped to heal itself when the spine is aligned. Make sure you ask for the bill up front if you ever get treatment or they will pack on all they can so when you cancel you will still have a whopping balance due .They do not care about your needs. I signed up with the hopes of getting help for my mom that has Bipolar depression/ schizophrenia. I thought it would help with her anxiety . After over a month she was begging not to go , she didn't like it and it was not helping her . I cancelled her plan . I kept going a little longer since I have hip issues and felt no different then when I started . I know it can take the full length of treatment to see results and I understand that part. My problem is I continuously asked for the bill upfront several times and was told they would email it to me in the beginning of signing up . I work with someone that has the same issue and asked for the bill for over three weeks and had his wife be persistent to get it . He didn't even know how much he was paying for the home care kit. Here is my balance due after canceling over a month ago and charging my credit card on top of balance . I would go anywhere else to receive treatment and believe they are more honest than River city , hand down. read more
