On May 6, 2023, I strained one of my right calf muscles. It was very painful and I had trouble walking without a limp. I went to see the doctor and he told me what the problem was. Since we were to travel on a walking-intensive trip to Germany approx. three weeks hence, we asked the doctor if I could get some PT. He wrote the referral and told us that Pro-Motion on Slaughter Ln was a good place to go. That was convenient since he is in the same shopping center. After an initial evaluation by one of the doctors at ProMotion, they placed me with Byron, a former Marine, who went to ACC and was trained as a Physical Therapy Assistant. I was amazed by how good he was--I think he's a natural for this kind of thing, though I'm sure the training also helped a lot. I really hope he gets the opportunity to study to get his doctorate in PT, because I'm pretty sure he will be a great one. He was always patient, firm, and honest. A hard combination to find--though the fact that he was a Marine made it a little less surprising. I made a lot of progress in three weeks, but as we came to the end of the three weeks, we decided that it was best for me to bring a cane along on the trip (I'd never used a cane in my life) since I was told we would be walking typically 5 to 7 miles per day (of course, not all in one walk without a break--but, still that's more than I walked before my injury). Brandon taught me how to use the cane. Though I was able to basically get around without a cane, I did need it sometimes, especially towards the end of a day. He also counseled me on selecting the right kind of compression socks to wear on the airplane. I cannot say enough good things about Byron and Pro-Motion Physical Therapy. read more

I was in PT for my shoulder (long term injury from years ago) for almost 6 months at another place and they only made my injury worse. Took a break for a while then over Christmas break, injured my shoulder again and ended up wearing a brace for a few days. Came to Pro Motion and I wish I came here years ago. Dennis has been a life saver. He could tell immediately what was going on, that I wouldn't need surgery and would just need 6 weeks. So thankful for Dennis - just trust me and go see him. While I appreciate your attempt to rectify a situation that had been increasingly frustrating and not limited to one incident, this is a knee-jerk reaction to a yelp review vs a genuine attempt. As mentioned before, we did voice our concerns previously to the staff without resolution. Regarding why my mother continued to do business with you despite these setbacks, the reasons are two-fold, she absolutely enjoys working with her PT Andrew and these issues began after she'd been with you several months (the honeymoon period), at that point she felt a bit locked in as she was halfway through her therapy. But no amount of positive feedback on a therapist should dismiss the unprofessional front desk behavior which you yourself acknowledged on our call. I hope you see this as constructive feedback vs anything else, this is the proper platform to do just that. read more

Your recollection of the events that occured that day are erroneous and the facts are simply this. 1) we were not offered another therapist that day, if that would have happened, we would have gladly accepted. 2) we discussed the many scheduling issues with Andrew directly. If he did not communicate those to you, that further highlights our point that there are communication issues that need to be addressed within your business. We have nothing further to add, this was our experience with Pro-Motion, we hope this helps to improve your customer service in the future. Well, it was a a rather "bumpy" experience for my mother in law. Andrew was her PT which did an amazing job nonetheless! However, the business itself and the assistants they have are very inexperienced and always messing schedules up. After 5 months of coming here to be told that our insurance will no longer cover anymore visits. And on top of that to not even be scheduled for that week at all. Just pulled off their calender without notice is completely unprofessional and wrong to do that to someone who takes the time to take time off work to come to these sessions and not even inform my senior mother in law. This isn't the first occurrence this has happened either. Many times after a session they moved us around to make room for new clients. We were there first. How about treat your paying customers who pay in full every time with some respect. Hopefully you people read this and adjust your business practices in a better manner. People pay a lot of money for these services and take time to go to these sessions. Hopefully future potential clients will read this review and find somewhere else to recieve their PT. read more

UPDATE (03/29/2020): The owner has replied to my original review to insensitively dismiss a thorough account of my feelings and experience visiting his business. Want to verify the location, layout, and environment? You'll see it all aligns with the review below. I even attached three photos to substantiate it and you can see the tight layout, limited equipment, harsh lighting, and privacy curtain in his own uploaded photos (see photo 4 from January 22, 2019). I'm entitled to my own opinions. The owner is not entitled to his own facts. ------------------------- I visited Pro Motion in January 2020. The first thing I noticed was that it was located in a strip mall and I didn't get that clean medical office vibe. I parked the car close to the front door and looked up to see Domino's pizza was right next door... an odd neighbor for a clinic. Then I got out and noticed an advertisement for a psychic on the clinic window -- that didn't instill confidence at all. Lastly, there was a name of a therapist on the door and window that I later found out had left the clinic a month earlier -- I wasn't sure if keeping the name there was to save money in removal or to make it seem like there was more staff at the practice than there actually was. Inside the clinic, the square footage of this strip mall suite is quite limited and the treatment area only occupies about 60% of the space. Most PT clinics are spread out for comfort, equipment, and exercises and also have private spaces with walls for privacy in conversation and treatment -- this does not exist here as there is only a curtain to pull around a small corner space. The treatment tables are very close together and there is limited space for equipment and full range of motion exercises. It's almost like being in a hair salon where the chairs are super close together, stylists are bumping into each other, and you can hear everyone's conversations. The lighting was harsh too and felt like a sterile hospital where sick people go rather than a therapeutic environment for people already in the process of getting better. If you're looking for more than just a basic physical therapy experience with limited space, equipment, staff, location, and results then I would strongly recommend finding another physical therapy provider in Austin. read more

This is a long review, but it is from the heart. When one receives great care, they should talk about it! When I was told I needed physical therapy for my back, knees and hip, I immediately called the big name brand place. They took my information and when I gave them my insurance info they told me that I would have to pay more $$ out of pocket unless I went with a therapist on my plan. I chose Promotion simply out of convenience, it was close to work and home, but I didn't have high expectations for service since I was forced to go there by my insurance company. Was I ever wrong! Walking in I was immediately greeted by James who took the time to evaluate and explain the connections to what was going on with my body. As we moved through therapy I had other symptoms come up that were all connected. He took the time to address and treat these issues and always adjusted the treatment plan based on my body and the pain I was in. He is very knowledgeable about locating the source of the pain and prescribing exercises to treat the pain between appointments. The clinic was always clean and I appreciated the COVID precautions that went beyond our governor's mandates to ensure everyone's safety. The atmosphere was always cheerful and the owner, who happened to be James, was so humble that I didn't realize he was the owner until my 3rd or 4th visit. James encouraged me to improve my health beyond what I was being treated for. I told him I was working on removing sugar from my diet to decrease inflammation in my body and he encouraged me along the way. He asked me one day how I was doing and I told him I felt a little discouraged because I had only lost 5 pounds. Towards the end of my next session, thinking I was going to be shown a new exercise, James placed a 5 pound weight in my hands. I asked what I needed to do with it. He asked me just to hold it for a moment and then told me that it was 5lbs - just like the weight I had lost and was no longer carrying around. What a caring thing to do. This place is great!!! I see Dennis and he's terrific. He knows his stuff flat out. My oncologist receommended it to help me get and stay in shape for a stem cell transplant. He sees me for a full hour. They enforce wearing masks, so I feel OK about the exposure - very important since I'm immune-compromised. I feel that if there ius a chance to get the transplant, these folks will be the best at helping me get there! read more

I've been seeing James on and off since 2018. My doctor cleared me for PT but I still had a small open wound. I was turned away due to this by a local PT and that was the best that could've happened. James didn't hesitate to treat me and I never looked back. He is great at challenging me when I'm afraid of reinjuring myself and is quick to hold me accountable when I decide to do something dumb like take a boxing class way too early in my treatment. :-). What I can't stand in a PT is a.) getting passed off to a PTA after one visit and b.) very traditional 'warm up on the bike' treatment as they juggle 3 other patients. Whether you see James or his team, they are your PT until you are released from treatment. And he is amazing at manipulating the muscles, dry needling, cupping, etc in addition to proper exercises. This thinking outside the box is exactly what I've looked for and appreciate everything he's done to help me get my active life back. James has also taught at the university and ensures his staff trains in a similar fashion. So don't be concerned if you aren't seeing James, his team is absolutely fabulous. I had PT to strengthen my knees with Andrew. I had so much knee pain that I thought nothing short of surgery could help. I had trouble walking and getting up from a sitting position. I consulted with a surgeon and he suggested I try physical therapy before surgery. I am so grateful. Andrew is a very professional therapist. He did both manual therapy and supervised exercises twice weekly. After ten sessions, my knees are pain free, I am able to walk two miles a day. Andrew gave me a home program to maintain the strength I have built up and I no longer am considering surgery. The facility is very clean and well run. My teen-aged daughter had a pain on the wrist after she sprained it. Her pediatrician didn't find any sign from her x-ray & blood test but mentioned a possible carpal tunnel and gave a wrist brace. The unknown pain continued and she was sent to doctor after doctor getting different diagnoses every time including tendonitis, inflammatory problems, etc. Repeated blood tests, all those names of disorders, unhelpful therapies, and even recommending a CT scan made my daughter believe that she had a serious medical problem on the wrist. After 2 years of misdiagnosed pain, we found Dr. Dennis Kihlberg at Pro Motion Physical Therapy. Dr. Dennis was modest and caring, totally different from the previous pediatric orthopedic doctors who seemed a bit supercilious and acted overly confident. Unlike other doctors and therapists, Dr. Dennis always carefully listened to my daughter, kindly explained, sincerely gave a manual therapy, and patiently supervised her exercises. After the first visit, my daughter told me that she didn't feel the need of another therapy. She was extremely happy to find out that the pain was nothing serious. But I took her to two more sessions just to make sure. After 3 sessions of therapy with Dr. Dennis, my daughter has regained almost all of her hand strength and mobility that she had before, and has been able to return to activities that once caused immense pain. Dennis at Pro Motion did an amazing job helping me to rehab my knee in six weeks. I didn't have an MRI or x-ray, but Dennis was able to determine the severity of my injury and begin therapy the very first session. I had a GREAT experience in this clinic. I live in Austin and received treatment here from James Werley for chronic neck/shoulder and TMJ-related issues. I had constant soreness/tension and recurrent headaches. The massage/manipulation, dry needling, and cupping, together with the exercise plan he put together for me, really helped my symptoms and also my ability to deal with issues as they arise.
