Thanks for the fast friendly and precise eyeglass repair. Even better that they're open before other locations in the general area.

Yesterday Natalie (the technician) assisted me in preparation to seeing the doctor. Natalie is professional - she answered all my questions - She is outgoing and has a positive aura about her. Eye Care of Ocala is simply the best!

I have been wearing corrective lenses for 65 years and have been under the care of an ophthalmologist for over a year for glaucoma and last saw him 2 months prior to this visit. I definitely have a need for change in my current lenses. The clinic is very large with more examining rooms than I have seen before in an eye clinic. I gave the receptionist my vision insurance card and ID however she also wanted my medical insurance card, which i didn't have in my wallet at the time. I told the receptionist that I was under the care of an MD and was not interested in any medical care for my eyes, only needed corrective lens service. I filled in an history on an I-pad that I was given. The information I gave on the i-pad was the only information about me that I gave for the rest of the visit. I don't remember any questions about my occupation or retirement status. I thought it strange in restrospect that none of the people that I saw that day asked one question about my personal life, i.e. what I had done in my life or in any way tried to establish any type of personal connection. Even though I used a lot of medical terminology in my discussions of my eye issues, no one seemed to be curious as to why I would know what they were doing in their examination. I left the clinic after seeing a cadre of people without one person knowing that I have been in the medical field for almost 50 years and continue to teach in the field. I was seen first by one technician then several more technicians. The first technician wanted to take pictures of my retina for an extra $65. I told the technician that my ophthalmologist had pictures that were quite recent. Not sure why it costs $65 to take a picture. I didn't really know why I needed so many technicians before seeing the doctor and I didn't know what the position of each technician was. It was over an hour of seeing technicians before I saw the doctor. The doctor who did see me was not the one that I had been scheduled for or was told I would be seeing. There was no explanation of why a substitute doctor was given me, though the doctor was very nice, had a warm personality and wanted to be helpful. Nevertheless, the clinic said that I had cataracts that were so severe that I needed immediate cataract surgery. They demanded my medical insurance card as they said they could not give me a referral to a cataract surgeon without it and no ophthalmologist would see me without a referral. I called my wife, got the insurance information and gave it to them. They returned to me saying they had never heard of the insurance company and they did not accept that insurance. I thought it strange that a major commercial medical insurer of current and retired government employees was totally unknown by such a large clinic. That was definitely a first for me. I told them I wasn't interested in an actual referral but asked them who they would see in the neighborhood for their own personal ophthamologist. Nevertheless, it seemed that the clinic wanted to also bill my medical insurance, not just my vision insurance, and I left wondering what medical conditions they wanted to treat. At the conclusion I was told that the clinic could not improve my current vision because my cataracts were so bad and i would have to just wear my current lenses until after I had surgery. The physician said I had +3 cataracts in one eye and +4 in the other. I tried to ask a question about the scaling of cataracts, but it just blew past the physician. I thought it strange that the ophthalmologist who I had seen 2 months earlier had noted that there were very early cataracts forming but he expressed no concern that anything in the near future needed to be done and I certainly have not noted any clouding of my vision. The information that the optometrist was giving me seemed throw questions about the competency of my ophthalmologist. I thought it strange that no one in the clinic asked who my ophthalmologist was or whether he had said anything about cataracts. So I left the clinic, no lenses being prescribed, but having spent my one vision exam that my insurance would cover for this year. I am left wondering what I should do next. While cataract surgery is very common and usually met with success, I am still leery of having anyone touch my eyes with a scalpel because I know that there are no perfect surgeons. If any surgeon tells you they have 100% success, it is a lie. I will probably be calling my ophthalmologist in the community I just moved from and asking his opinion about what the optometrist told me. I may then consult another ophthalmologist in this new community as well as another optometrist (which I will pay for out of my own pocket.) I don't know what to believe right now. In summary, I left the Ocala Eye Clinic feeling that it was too big for my needs.

I don't say this lightly: this was one of the most impressive eye-care experiences I've…read morehad--period. From the moment I walked in, the tone was set. Professional, calm, welcoming, and polished without being stiff. Every interaction felt intentional. No rushed energy, no assembly-line medicine--just people who clearly take pride in what they do. The doctor deserves special recognition. He didn't just run tests--he listened. He took the time to understand what I was experiencing, asked the right questions, and made sure the diagnosis was thoughtful and precise. That kind of care is rare, and it immediately builds trust. This is what true professionalism looks like. Now let's talk about the frames--because this place operates on a completely different level. If you value style, individuality, and quality, you'll get it instantly. The selection is bold, curated, and refreshingly non-generic: high-end designer frames you don't see everywhere, displayed in a beautiful, boutique-style space. This is for people who care how they look and don't want what everyone else is wearing. A genuine thank you to the doctor and to Ron, the owner, for creating something special here. Medical expertise, elevated style, and exceptional service--all under one roof. I'll absolutely be back. Yelp Elite takeaway: when a place gets both the medical and the experience right, it earns loyalty. This one earned mine.

I have both health insurance and Humana exam and materials vision insurance. My exam today was an annual exam to get prescription updates for both glasses and contacts. This is covered with a $10 copay with my vision insurance. I did agree for "additional" tests which I was told would be scheduled a few months later which would require the use of my health insurance at that time. However when I left my visit, without having the "additional testing" which I was told would cost $65.00 at a later date, I was presented with a $127 copay, and they used my health insurance instead of vision insurance. I didn't purchase contacts/glasses- and did NOT agree to any additional testing other than what I was told would be scheduled at a later date. Quinn eye center office mgt. chose to use my health insurance instead of my vision insurance adding one item (which I had NOT previously agreed to not been informed of cost) claiming they were "saving" me money. When I attempted to resolve this issue, speaking with both Christine and John Michael, I received 2 different rationales for this cost. I cannot recommend an eye doctor who charges a $127 copay for annual eye exam when the patient has vision insurance that would cover these items with only a $10.00 copay. After appointment, I called my Humana vision insurance representative who indeed told me that both contact and eyeglass prescriptions are included in their annual eye exam with only a $10 copay. It is very sad because we have been loyal patients for years. I CANNOT in good conscience recommend them any more.
