It was a rainy day: drizzling : that consistency of rain that makes you feel a bit run down. I was met with the most delicious, warming coffee: a very smooth latte, that had such a lovely taste that there was no need for a drop of sugar. They were out of most of their pastries by the time I sat in--due to their popularity, I have no doubt. I chose one of their remaining items: a small cake that had a touch of lemon and a raspberry on top of a creamy frosting. It was delicious--a welcomed treat when I felt in need of a pick me up. I did not have a chance to test their food so am unable to comment. Do note however: This is a VERY small place. Cozy to be sure, but small and by no means for larger groups. It is ideal for the soloist and duos to come in and have a fairly quick coffee, cake, and food (I assume). This is NOT a place to study. There are no comfortable lounge chairs, chairs or tables. The seating is composed of stools that reside at two bars. It's kind of reminding me of Italian style cafes where you drink your espresso at the bar, across from the barista who just served it to you (though in Rome, they don't offer you stools even!). Given the level of their coffee and cake, I'll be back again soon.

There are no bathrooms which is a downfall but it was close enough to our hotel. I got the chorizo bagel both days I went and a latte. They have display cases of baked goods and sandwiches. When I ordered, the toasted it. It was filling and had a spicy kick in it. Very good! The bagel was crispy and good too!

We've now tried all the cafes in Largs and this is, without doubt, our favourite!! If someone…read morehadn't told me about it I may have missed it (terrible thought) as it's a short way up a side street off the main shopping thoroughfare (nearly opposite the Nicolson Maps shop). There are clean, polished tables for two or four people and there's lots of space. We had a seat in the window which was very nice. Every table had a (real) red rosebud in a small vase which was a lovely touch, there was soft music playing, and there was a warm and pleasant atmosphere. The owner was particularly friendly and welcoming. The home baking is fresh and truly gorgeous. My husband said the Bakewell tart was the best he'd ever tasted (high praise indeed coming from him) - and that included the one he had in the town of Bakewell itself!!! As for my large Empire Biscuit, well it was also the best I've had (they are my favourites and I always eat them when in Scotland!) as it was fresh, thick and crumbly (usually they are quite hard). They do a great selection of freshly made lunches too from salads to toasties. The substantial and delicious soup with a sandwich is only £6.95. The coffees are extremely good and come with some pieces of homemade Scottish butter tablet on the side of the saucer. We had hoped to eat there again but sadly ran out of time this trip. Next time we're in Largs we'll go straight there for lunch. Only wish I was allowed to give it more than 5 stars as this cafe is in a league of its own!!

Saturdays are really busy so was glad I decided last minute to book a table. The menu is filled with sandwiches, bagels, paninis etc and all come with soup for £5.95 which is a bargain when you see the portions. However the most popular order seemed to be the high tea for two, which at £5 per person is amazing! The atmosphere is lovely, with a mix of couple, familes and quite a few grannies being treated to tea and cakes by their grandkids. The decor is nothing fancy, but the setting and welcoming staff easily makes up for it There is fabulous selection of Suki teas and homemade baking. Soups of the day this week were tomato with basil and potato and leek. Last wee I tried the curried butternut squash which was amazing! The setting is lovely and the food is well worth the 15min drive from Dennistoun. There is a garden centre and lovely views onto the loch so you could easily spend a few hours over a coffee, chatting and escaping city life. I can't speak highly enough of this place and look forward to making myself a regular! https://www.facebook.com/pages/Tea-House-On-The-Loch/141357772588944?fref=ts
