I've been visiting more since the "Eat out to help out" scheme and find it a great place to set up the Laptop and escape into my own world. However, their WiFi is very poor and often cuts out, or simply locks out, which will eventually start to become irksome given its one of the key reasons for going there. Get that fixed and it will be rated 5 stars.

The coffee is good and strong, the WiFi is free, the food is hearty. On my most recent visit I ordered a latte and a bowl of the soup of the day, which turned out to be Scotch broth. The portion came served with bread and was absolutely huge - it was also somewhere between soup and stew, thanks to the chunky vegetables in it. Perfect for warming up on a chilly day. I've occasionally visited for events in the past and they seem very happy for their space to be used as more than just a coffee shop. I think it changed hands a couple of years ago but that hasn't at all diminished the feeling you get that Big Mouth is part of a real community in Partick, one that it deserves some credit for helping to grow.

In the Byres Road area, this really is the go to place for a good quality coffee. Tinderbox have quite a few places dotted around the city, and even have a to go spot in Hillhead subway station. This one is on the junction with University Avenue at the lights. I've found the consistency between venues perfect, you always get the exact same quality. The coffee itself is one of the better ones in the area. As a black coffee fan, I appreciate a coffee made with great espresso, and that's exactly what you get here. I've had other drinks as well which are good, though I find with the latte, an extra shot wouldn't go amiss, though most latte drinkers probably aren't a fan of it being too strong! The service is always quick and efficient, considering how busy this place can get, to be honest I've never really seen it quiet! The only downside I find is the food, I've only really ever had cakes, and considering they often cost more than the coffee, I find the quality quite a bit on the poor side. Probably I'm wrong because it's always busy but there are sooooo many great coffee shops and cafes nearby and I'm not sure why this one does so well. The hot drinks are good but hot drinks are good a lot of places. In some places the hot drinks are quite a lot better. The cold drinks are exactly the same as everywhere else. The food is average to poor. I was especially disapointed when ordering a latte (which was ok) and some noodles for lunch and discovered just how tiny they portion was. It was also served cold which was an unpleasant surprise - maybe I should have known they were going to be cold and I was being a bit naive but I really wanted a hot lunch. Given the price, I wish I'd taken it away and heated it up myself - it would have been much nicer. The price is really the main problem. It's generally more expensive to sit in than to take away (which is reasonable considering how busy the place is and that is true in most places these days) but neither price is especially reasonable. There's also no loyalty scheme or student discount which is almost unheard of among coffee shops in the West End. Every time I come in I wonder why I did. If you really, really must go I concede that they do a really nice chai tea latte, their friands are good and that there aren't many places where you can get a white hot chocolate. Maybe try those. Then move on - life is too short to revisit average cafes.

Although it is a little bit more spacious than the parent 'bakehouse' in Dennistoun, this place somehow fails to achieve the same ambience for me. Maybe it's the higher windows, maybe it's because the space is finished to a higher standard, or maybe it's just the Feng-Shui... I don't know. I still prefer going to Dennistoun if I can (it's also easier to park the car over there!). But it's still Tapa, it still has the fantastic Tapa bread and goodies, and they still do a great Long Black. If you're anywhere in the vicinity, it's worth stopping off here.

If you have a Waterstones card you can earn or spend points when you buy things in the cafe as well. Now that might be my favourite bit. It's in a Waterstones. Waterstones may not be the perfect bookshop but it does pretty well. There's not much more comforting than sitting down in an armchair and sipping a hot drink whilst surrounded by books. Cunningly, the cookery book section is just past the cafe's seating area - so if you do find yourself thinking that you might be able to make your own chocolate cake at home, they are quite prepared to sell you the very resource you most need. I only wish they were open a little bit later. The Waterstones on Sauchiehall Street has a Costa Coffee instead. While it's in the basement so it doesn't have the benefit of the natural light that Cafe W has, it does manage to stay open a bit later.

I had a caffe latte and Gian had a soy cappuccino. First off, my caffe latte was decent. I'm not a fan of the size of the cup though because it was pretty big and that's like a lot of milk, but still good! Wasn't horrible or anything. Gian's soy cappuccino, however, was a total disaster! Curdled, bitter and super acidic. TIP FOR CAFES : if ya wanna have the option to serve coffee with soy milk, learn how to do it properly because NOBODY likes friggin tofu floating in their drink. Gian didn't even finish his coffee and that is saying a lot!! He never wastes food or drinks!! The reason I'm giving Kitchen Window a 4 is because of their sandwiches. Yes. They are REALLY good. They make their own bread for sure because the baguettes they used were super soft and delicious! Gian ordered the prawn avocado sandwich while I had the halloumi and tomato. Fortunately, the staff are pleasant and efficient. There is outdoor seating, a small seating area in the front and a "wee side room" that is much quieter. They have a wide range of pastries on display. I had a lemon coconut bar that was fantastic and a pain au chocolat that they warmed up. Their coffee is pretty good, to boot. Additionally, they have free and reliable wi-fi, which is good since there is spotty cell service in the area.
