I'm not often passing through here, but whenever I'm in the area I'll usually try to drop in for a Long Black and a piece of ginger crunch, or something more substantial if it's lunchtime. Although it is a little bit more spacious than the parent 'bakehouse' in Dennistoun, this place somehow fails to achieve the same ambience for me. Maybe it's the higher windows, maybe it's because the space is finished to a higher standard, or maybe it's just the Feng-Shui... I don't know. I still prefer going to Dennistoun if I can (it's also easier to park the car over there!). But it's still Tapa, it still has the fantastic Tapa bread and goodies, and they still do a great Long Black. If you're anywhere in the vicinity, it's worth stopping off here. read more

I'm a bit obsessed with eggs Benedict (in all shapes and forms) and was excited to get out of bed early enough on a Saturday to get along here to try them out. We didn't have a problem getting a table at 11am on a Saturday, but keep in mind that this place does get pretty busy - there were loads of folk coming in and out of the door to grab takeaway coffees and bread. I ordered the eggs royale but asked for avocado to be added to it for something a bit special. We didn't have to wait long for our food and I was impressed with the generous portion. Strangely the eggs were served on toast rather than muffins but it actually still tasted pretty good. Perfectly poached eggs, lots of hollandaise and delicious salmon and avo. I couldn't fault it. Service was good, prices are pretty reasonable and they have a good selection of drinks. We also grabbed bread to go - baguette and a sourdough which were each less than £2 and delicious. For a great south side brunch, I'm not sure you can beat Tapa - I'll continue my eggs Benny mission and update along the way! read more

Tapa boasts "the best coffee by a country mile" all across its windows. This does ruin the outlook onto the street rather, but it is, at least, true: Tapa does serve lovely coffee. However, the real reason to visit is the bread. They are famous for their organic baking, and while the loaves are expensive, they are delicious. Tapa is one of the few places on the south side that does a good breakfast that doesn't feature sausages and baked beans: they have French Toast, scrambled eggs, plenty of healthy favourites. It seems to get busy as soon as it opens, and stays that way all day. This makes the service slow, if very charming, but there is usually enough space to find a table, apart from at the height of lunch. Although it is a restaurant, with plenty of tasty main meals, it is better as a cafe: it doesn't have loud music, and the coffee is much better value. It does attract families, though: the pleasure of a weekend visit does depend on the individuals tolerance for wee moppets discovering the toys. It'c clean and welcoming, if a bit generic: the seating is comfortable, but there are no lounging sofas or upholstered chairs here. The atmospher is business-like, not relaxed: this is more young professional than student in tone. read more

We stopped off here on a drizzly Sunday morning, after a long bike ride around Pollokshields Park. We were well in need of sustenance and a heat and were delighted to get a table in this cosy wee shop. Given the calories we'd burned off on our epic journey, I felt fully justified in getting the full vegan breakfast fry up, and it was delicious. There were lovely big squishy mushrooms and fried tomatoes, a weird vegan sausage that was actually really nice, a tasty home made tattie scone, some spicyish baked beans served in a tiny saucepan, some spinach, and the most delicious toast and butter I've had for a long while. I was very happy indeed! Boyfy had the full non vegan fry up, coffee and a cake, all of which he verifies as being excellent. It almost makes me want to go back to the Southside more often ;-) read more

Went over to Tapa today for a quick lunch and to get outta the flat! Just so happens that Tapa is only about 2 mins cycle away from my flat, both great and dangerous as I foresee myself here A LOT. Anyway, the space itself is nice. I was there when it wasn't busy so ample room for me to be comfortable! Staff members are friendly and accommodating too! Btw, this branch is table service so don't be silly like me and order at the counter haha the one in West End is counter service! I got confused! I ordered a veggie breakfast, matcha latte and a vegan chocolate cupcake! The veggie breakfast is not that big of a portion but everything was nice! Nothing extraordinary as it was just a veggie breakfast but it satisfied my hangry self! Haha. The matcha latte from Tapa I think is my absolute fav! They make it SOOO well! And in a huge cup too! Very Scottish portions of coffee indeed :) The vegan chocolate cupcake ... was AWESOME. I love it! It was sweet but the right amount of sweet! And it was just made so well, not dry, fluffy, with delicious butter icing and blueberries as garnish! I loved it alot! Definitely will get those more often! I wanna try the vanilla ones too. Altogether, it came up to 12.20quid, which is not bad for the whole lot of stuff I devoured. Def will head back, especially for more cake and matcha latte! Hehe loved it read more

I unexpectedly found myself over in Pollokshaws on a Monday morning with some free time so I thought it was the perfect chance to do something I've been meaning to do for ages - visit Tapa! I've always heard great things about Tapa, but ever since going vegan my want to go has increased exponentially! I was not disappointed! Despite being 9am on a Monday morning I was happy to see I wasn't the only punter in the place! I ordered a vegan sausage roll (!!) from the waitress and a soy latte. The business seemed pretty constant with people popping in for takeaway coffees on their way to work so I took this as a good sign! The tofu sausage roll, or rather sandwich, was AMAZING! I loved it! The sausages were nice and crispy on the outside and they had the nicest organic tomato sauce to go with it as well! The latte was great also. I'm not a big coffee drinker, but even I knew that was a good cup of coffee! The staff were super friendly too and I loved the atmosphere and the decor. The playlist alone was making me wish I didn't have to go to work and I could wile away the day inside eating more vegan delights! read more

This is rapidly turning into one of my favourite places in Glasgow! Not living on the South Side, this is a bit of a trek from the West End which means it is more of a weekend treat and you know what that means?.....Sunday Brunch! Tapa has a great menu with something for everyone and always some tempting specials on the board. Great coffee and teas and an amazing range of breads for sale and cakes to stuff your face with. It's good to see that they don't just do a vegan/veggie breakfast but that some of their cakes are vegan or gluten free too. Anyway the brunch....I've had the full cooked option, very nice - especially their own style baked beans but the Eggs Benedict is TO DIE FOR! Served on Tapa bread, with a decent couple of slices of tasty ham, perfectly cooked poached eggs and a mouth watering sauce it really is something else! I had to physically restrain my 12 yr old daughter from stealing my plate last time I went, such was her appreciation of the dish! So if you want a fantastic brunch (my other half loves the vegan version too), head to Tapa (but it does get busy so please save a seat for me)! read more

It was Christmas. The Baron's wheat intolerant sister was coming to stay and I'd decided to embrace the challenge of making all of my festive baking wheat free. Tapa had already sorted me out with wheat free flour, but after my second round of mince pies, I realised I didn't have the time or patience to bake bread as originally hoped (plus I've attempted gluten free bread before and it is, frankly, a b*tch). But! In a flash of inspired genius I rang Tapa to check a) that they had sister-in-law friendly bread in stock and b) could they put a loaf aside for me? The answer was a resounding yes on both counts - Christmas was saved! Apart from their extended-family pleasing capabilities Tapa do amazing poached eggs. Seriously. And their porridge is pretty good too - actually, I think I've only really tried brunchy/breakfasty things, but I consider it a guaranteed top brunch spot. Definitely worth getting up, dressed and out on a Saturday morning for. And yes, the coffee so good that I opted to buy some to take home with me on my last visit. It was a toss up between trying Tapa for the first time or going back to Gusto and Relish a few doors away. We chose Tapa and were really pleased we had. Lunch was served quite quickly and was pretty tasty, although the choice of cakes was a bit disappointing. Does everyone had a wheat/gluten allergy around here? Rave, rave, rave, compliment, praise, compliment, rave, other positive words....am i a fan....sort of ish. Ok so i'm out of my comfort zone in the far far away lands known to many as "the SOUTH side" ba ba BA!!!!!. Now normally i don't venture this far from my home post code but today i thought " you know what, i'm F*ckin goin' for it (sorry Slu)". Now what i'm going to say next may very well offend some people, people I hold close to me, people i respect, trust and owe money to...and to be honest, i like my knee caps so very much, but hey! somethings just need to be said......I....I....I like the southside..there, i said it, do your worst big Dave. I jest, however in all honesty i had greatly underestimated the South Side for many years and have only recently been made aware of some of its gems, thanks mainly to a rather nifty review site (yelt, or yelz or something). SO as i find myself here i located Tapa in full knowledge that crackin coffee and free wifi awaited.... i was not disappointed. Yes there claim to have the best coffee in Glasgow grates a little with my cynical disposition (see my review of Tapa in Dennistoun for a full run down of my opinion) but you know what, the quality of the coffee kind of creeps up on you and before you know it your making 'mmmmmmmm' sounds out loud. On this visit i plumped for a latte (quickly becoming my favorite tipple) and later a rather lovely bowl of veg soup with bread....here we go again...',mmmmmmm'. With an excellent coffee house feel, ambient music and faint hush of the coffee machine, this is a nice buzzy place to pass the day. Free wifi helps to stack up the brownie points, as do the homebaked organic brownies. This really is a fantastic wee joint and i will without a doubt be coming here the next time I'm in the area. With Tapa, yes its a little pricey, but you really do get what your paying for. Sweetness ahoy! read more

This new coffee house is a little less cosy than the original Tapa in Dennistoun, with a lot more tables and chairs that seem to have no problem being filled. All of the bread sold here is organic and baked freshly in their very own bakery. The food is good and uses only the freshest and best ingredients, which justifies the premium prices. With its big bright windows, this is the perfect spot to stop and sip one of their hot strong and tasty coffees whilst looking out on to the bustling street outside. read more

Bigger than the Bakehouse, the Coffeehouse has a full kitchen and serves delicious breakfasts and dinners beyond the salads, tarts and sandwiches stocked at the front. Seating is up and downstairs and can often be full on weekend mornings . Service can be inattentive and the friendly staff frequently need reminding of your order, but I can't fault the food and coffee. It is perhaps a little pricey for what you get, but everything is organic and extremely fresh. read more

Visited Tapa on Sunday for brunch. Menu looks amazing and i was struggling to choose what to eat. Went for Eggs Alva (poached eggs on toast with bacon, avocado & hollandaise). It was delicious. Coffee was good but have had better before from here. Was very busy when we arrived but luckily a table left within a few minutes. Very vegan friendly & free wifi. I was stuffed afterwards. Will defo be going back soon to try something else on breakfast menu! read more

Over rated pretentious hole that caters for snobs. Very expensive for what is on the whole standard fare. It does serve great coffee and organic bread. Expect to pay through the nose for the privilege. read more

A very unassuming coffeehouse, my guy and I stopped in here on our way back from Queens Park one weekend. We were looking for a warm drink to shake off the chill that was in the air that day. We were able to get right in and take a seat among the other customers. The tables are situated closely together, which gives it a more cozy feel. There was a couple sitting just behind us who were speaking in french and I swear, the way the coffeehouse looks and hearing them speak, made me feel like we were in France. It really was a magical moment. We only ordered coffee from the counter which was brought over to us in mugs with a splash of milk on the side and sweetener. I'm known for not finishing drinks (bad habit of mine), but I was under the weather and rather cold, so the hot coffee went down a treat. The staff we interacted with were nice enough. Looking around, I could see people tucking into the soup of the day which came with a chunk of bread. There are freshly made breads and baked goods on offer, as well as a variety of dishes made to order. I think if we had any sort of appetite, we could have done some damage with all the tasty treats available, but we only had coffee. We'll be back for sure. read more

I don't go out in the south side very often and being honest I generally think most places are better on the westend..... but I actually liked this place. Good service, decent black coffee served and amazing sausage rolls! Worth a look if you fancy a coffee or a savoury bite and are in the area. read more

Carnivores beware, this is not a place of meat. Wow, never thought I'd have to say that. It's like saying, "Watch out T-rex, plants!" However, if you like vegetables and vegetarian sandwiches, then you may enjoy this place. I went here with a friend for lunch, because she's Spanish and said it was decent. She got a donut, so I'm not sure how Spanish she actually is, but I wanted some real food. Looking over their menu, I was saddened by the fact that the most protein-packed food they had was a cheddar salad sandwich. It was ok, though. I was hungry enough that I ate it all, but it's not like I will sit back and reminisce over that bland piece of leafy bread. Oh, I will say that the workers there are very friendly. They have no problems striking up a conversation with you, or getting you what you need, unless it's meat. read more

I've only been once to the Southside Tapa - the original Tapa is in Dennistoun (near where I live) and is slightly different as it's where they bake their bread and it's also stocks other organic products like flour, jam, coffee etc. The Dennistoun Tapa is on Whitehill street and is my favourite place for coffee. They roast it themselves and it is really delicious. The cakes are always very good and there's a big wheat free selection. The Southside Tapa is a bit different - more of a resturant than a shop/cafe but the time I went there it seemed great. Same great coffee and food - just a different location. read more

Tapa is a delight to have on your doorstep. It's a fantastic breakfast/brunch spot and great as somewhere to meet friends for an afternoon coffee. It's also amazing when you happen to be passing by and want a takeaway coffee or nip round for some delicious freshly cooked bread. Tapa do amazing eggs. Whether scrambled and on toast, or poached on ham, toast with a generous helping of avocado. The eggs rock. Their big breakfast (though I have not eaten it) looked great with homemade potato scone, baked beans and ketchup. I can't think of many places going to that effort. The cakes and Pastries are great. The super smoothie is indeed super. And best of all, it's a super chilled atmosphere. I've used it as a place to sit and get some work done, somewhere to get some reading done and somewhere to socialise, and everytime, the staff have been lovely and attentive. Treat yourself to a nice slow morning at Tapa and you won't be disappointed. read more

After months of whinging, I've been reunited with my matcha latte--and it's not too bad! However, I would skip the chai latte though, as it's just barely spiced milk. Teas aside, the breakfast/brunches here hit the spot. From soups that warm the cockles, to perfectly paired black pudding and poached eggs on top of nicely crisp toast, I've not yet had a bad meal at Tapa. The staff is always friendly and accommodating, which is always a treat. I also nip in from time to time to pick up bread to make French toast at home: brilliant! read more

Been meaning to come down here for ages and managed to swing by for a visit today...I got to say I was really disappointed! Maybe cause I had heard such good things I'd set my expectations too high, but yeah Tapa did not live up to all the rave reviews. I had a Macha Latte, which was actually really nice, and the boy had a regular latte which again was nice but really weak because of how big the cups are so I recommend getting a double shot. Food wise, I had the granola, yoghurt and fruit and the boy had poached eggs over broccoli, onions, peppers and black pudding. Mine was fine, loads of granola and not much yoghurt so slightly dry and the granola was weirdly chewy. The eggs were over cooked so none of that lovely, runny yolk and it was all just a bit meh. Like something you could've made better yourself at home. Maybe just an off day? I don't know, but I didn't try any of the delicious looking cakes etc because I was just a bit underwhelmed, so wouldn't say no to coming back and trying them another day but I highly doubt I would eat breakfast or lunch here again. read more

I am basically giving this a four because of the bread, which is amazing. There is lots of choice, and it is all good, a real adventure every time. Baked goodies are also very good, but very expensive. I am not too sure about it as a cafe however. Once I did not get served for really quite a long time. Another time the wrong coffee was brought. It has not been around for very long, and there is quite a lot of competition in the area, so I think the whole thing needs to be a bit more slick to be successful. I used to work very nearby Tapa, and was a frequent visitor. Off the top of my head: (1) Coffee is very good, and remarkably cheap, at £1.50 (sitting in) for a long black. Beans are roasted on site and the baristas tend to grind them very soon before pulling the shot, so everything's kept very fresh. If there's another business in the area that makes such an effort, I don't know of it. (2) The food has always been very nice, but portion size seems to vary considerably, depending on who's preparing it. This was a tad annoying when you re-ordered something you liked from an earlier visit, only to find it having halved in size! But then it would double again the next day, so if you're a frequent customer it evens out. (3) Prices have crept up in the time I've known it, and portions have shrank a bit overall, but it still offers good value, and when I'm back in Glasgow I tend to stop in for lunch at least once. (4) An earlier reviewer remarked that the atmosphere was 'businesslike' - for all the lack of soft couches I've never really had that impression. I've sat in for 2-3 hours before, having only ordered a couple of coffees, and never felt in any way rushed or pressured by the staff. (5) Good free WiFi. (6) Minor gripe is that one waiter tends to walk around whistling and singing loudly for hours at a time (for his whole shift, I suppose.) After about 20 minutes, this starts to grate a bit, especially if you're trying to talk/read/focus on anything at all. Only other source of noise is from young children at the weekend - Tapa is very child-friendly. (7) Weekend brunch is great, but there's stiff competition for tables. read more

Been in here a few times for brunch or lunch and never been disappointed, even if the vegan hipster vibe isn't entirely my thing. It's not huge and it can feel a little cramped if it's really busy, but the food is great. They do a great range of breakfasts from a full cooked breakfast to vegetarian and vegan options - I usually go for the Eggs Benedict as they're lovely. You can get them with bacon, smoked salmon or black pudding and although they come on toast rather than muffins, I think it's their own bread and it's actually a really nice alternative. For lunches they do a great range of sandwiches with mostly quite healthy but always very tasty fillings. They have a variety of teas, coffees and soft drinks, some really fab cakes and, of course, the bread from their bakery which they're so well-known for. It's definitely one of Strathbungo (and the southsides) best brunch and lunch spots. read more
