I have been to many yoga studios and this place is not a yoga studio; it is more of a self care spiritual studio with some yoga mixed in. When I first came in I was not asked if I had any injuries but as a fitness professional myself, I thought, you know I'm going to volunteer that information, because you should have asked, but maybe my experience will be better if you know. She just kind of nodded and said ok with a shoulder shrug. Having no mobility in your right hip, not a shoulder shrug situation, but I know my modifications. if I were a client who didn't know modifications, well best of luck to you.
Lucy seems nice but a little OCD and not great with suggested alternatives for poses. I went to the hatha yoga and meditation class and we were on our knees for the first 20 minutes of class- not cool. My friend and I both have to make some modifications and she came over and tried to correct our form even though we told her what she wanted us to do was not possible, and she did not believe us and tried to move us anyway. The Meditation portion was ok- it was not guided, nor any real instruction given.
I also attended the yoga nidra refresh class, which I have attended yoga nidra many times at many places. I was really looking forward to this because I am go go go person for about 14 hrs a day but sadly my experience at this studio was beyond sub-par- and honestly, frustrating.
I came in to set up and I was told which blankets to grab and she stood and watched me lay and fold things out, and when she didn't like the way I did it so took the blanket and redid it or re positioned it. I'm good with verbal cues; you do not need to hover and set me up. Once class started we were told to get a folding chair to sit in which should have been part of set up not the beginning of class so we all had to get situated again.
Once we got sort of comfortable in our chairs we focused on our breathing and that was good but then it was like a starling jolt of ok now that you're focused let me unfocus you and have you lay on your mat and start all over on your breathing and focus on feeling your chest rise and fall. The middle portion was ok, but then at the end she had us get off our mats and go back to the chair and then stare off again and then just as you got back into a mediation-like place she made a bowl sing and was like ok we're done, started chatting and then we said om. Weird. The class didn't feel like it had a solid ending. Plus, we were completely still for 60 minutes- why the hell to you have the ceiling fans on. It wasn't warm.
I was signed up for the restorative and hot stones class but after these 2 experiences and the fact that I was told for the hot stone class you hold 3 poses only over the course of an hour and you get a stone put on one of your charkras - I said no thank you. Restorative like yin, I get it, you're going to hold things longer to release muscles but only 3, forget that. Almost the worse $25 I've spent. read more
