I don't know about others, but it's been a real challenge for me to eat healthy during Rona times…read more After noticing my expanding waistline with dismay I decided to change things up a bit and took to Yelp for healthy alternatives. I found it's no easy task to find fresh vegan food in these parts, let alone places that deliver throughout Nassau and Western Suffolk counties as does Conscious Kitchen LI. So I was very happy to stumble upon CKLI's pics of beautiful fresh veggie concoctions on Instagram, perused their weekly online menu and placed an order via their secure website (note: currently CKLI is a delivery only biz, no eat-in facilities). Food is made from scratch, locally sourced and organic. For my first delivery I got: 1) weekly special salad - microgreens, chick peas, beets, asparagus, strawberries, almonds and other goodies with miso dressing on the side; 2) Falafel Hummus Wrap; 3) Thai Butternut Squash Soup; 4) Pasta Fagioli Soup; 5) Green and Red Juices. My food was delivered on time, nicely packaged in compostable containers. I enjoyed everything I ordered and portions were pretty good, especially the pristinely fresh salad which weighed in at 16 oz. Fresh squeezed juices were especially delicious, housed in cute glass bottles that one can exchange at the next order drop-off. Soups were more like stews, thick, hearty and well spiced with fresh herbs. CKLI is a small biz that delivers locally (0-5 miles from Glen Cove) from 5-6:30PM, and 5+ miles away from 6:30-8PM. I fall into the latter area and got my food at 6:30. Delivery is flat rate $5 Glen Cove local and $6 for other LI towns, not bad if you're placing a robust order. For now my cheeseburger-addicted hubbie took a pass on these vegan vittles, but I'm still hoping he'll try something from my next CKLI deliver lol. Whether you're a dedicated vegan or just looking for a fresh healthy alternative to the usual oily caloric takeout fare, you may want to give Conscious Kitchen LI a try.

My love and I found ourselves in the area and wanted to grab a light lunch before going about our afternon. We arrived around 12:30 PMand we still had a 25 minute wait. Clearly, they're doing something right! The atmosphere is bright and inviting. This is a place you can hit up for a quick lunch or linger over a nice glass of wine. Shishito Peppers to start. Ample portion size and perfectly salted. Brussels Bowl for me (quinoa, grilled chicken, crispy Brussels sprouts, pickled red onions, and lemon parmesan dressing) and Turkey Panini for him (roasted turkey, applewood smoked bacon, butter lettuce, tomato, red onion, basil tarragon aioli, and rosemary focaccia). We loved our choices. We were clean-plate club members during this lunch! We love that they have truly fresh-squeezed orange juice. You can't go back to drinking Tropicana after this! Ample parking in the strip mall. We'd return!

I was impressed by the food creativity as well as the overall ambiance of the restaurant. They have a nice selection of caffeinated beverages. I got the iced ube matche latte which I enjoyed. I also ordered some of my usual brunch favorites: stuffed French toast and eggs Benedict. Both were to my satisfaction.

But the more we looked into the menu, the more excited we became. I would say their specialty is burgers and sandwiches. Virtually every ingredient is made from scratch daily (except the sourdough bread, from a local farm), including impressive items like multiple types of burger patty and cheesy cashew sauce. We were so excited about their food that we went three days in a row! Day 1: The Fogwood smoky burger was outstanding. The BLT was also delicious; we loved the smoke salted tofu. For a lighter option, we got the sunshine curry quinoa chickpea bowl. It was healthy and nutritious, although I felt the flavor profile was a bit off; it was heavy on the curry powder and weirdly sweet. The side of mac and cheese was GREAT. We loved the sauce made from sweet potatoes, carrots, and cashews (I think it was oil-free). Not heavy or creamy, just flavorful and good! For dessert, we got the lavender almond cupcake which we LOVED. It was gluten-free, although you wouldn't guess it. It had a perfect fluffy texture and great nuanced flavor. We loved that it wasn't made with coconut oil (just olive oil). Truly special. The vast majority of their desserts (as well as their homemade cheeses) do contain coconut oil. Day 2: The patty melt sandwich was a big hit. Incredible flavor. The Levi Reuben served over greens (instead of on bread) was also delicious. We loved the fennel sage patty and the homemade sauerkraut. We got the kids' PB&J as a snack which was SO good with homemade peanut butter and homemade raspberry jam. Very impressive. Lastly, we couldn't resist getting the signature Snickers-inspired bar, which was so good it should be illegal. Day 3: We were excited to try their daily special, the teriyaki chili rice bowl, made with homemade ginger tofu patties. It was delicious, although it could have used some greens. We tried two more of their burgers to explore the menu further, the flirty burger and the teriyaki burger, and both were great. A devastating disappointment came when, even though we walked in within 10 minutes of their opening, they had already sold out of the special dessert advertised on their Instagram, the carrot spice cupcake with pecan glaze, the only dessert they had that was coconut-free. It seems like they inexplicably only make 4-6 cupcakes per day and then don't make more even if they sell out?! (Who does that??) Overall, we loved the food and are so glad they exist. Major props for making so many things from scratch. We really appreciated how nothing was fried or greasy, really hard to find these days. They also deserve special mention for having top-notch service. All the employees were so kind and accommodating, and every dish came out quickly and made to perfection. The vibe of the restaurant is really peaceful and would be an equally good spot to have a quick meal or to linger all day.

I've been going to Art Cafe for years, and it's still one of my favorite places to go for breakfast…read moreor lunch! I love that their menu has so many options that you don't typically find at other brunch spots, and there are a few things I almost always end up ordering. I am personally not vegetarian but this place is 100%. Make a reservation if you can, especially on weekends. It gets very busy! One of my favorites is the Chagall Bowl, but I always substitute the grain for Israeli couscous. I personally think it's so much better that way! I've ordered it countless times and still haven't gotten tired of it. I also really love their shakshuka, which is such a good option when I'm in the mood for something warm and comforting. Another favorite of mine is the goat cheese malawach. If you've never tried it, I definitely recommend it! The pastry is flaky and buttery, and I love the combination with the goat cheese. It's one of those dishes I don't see offered at many other places, which is part of why I love coming here. But I have to say, one of the biggest reasons I keep coming back is their chai tea late. I'm not exaggerating when I say it's the best chai I've ever had. I don't know exactly what they do differently, but nothing I've had elsewhere compares. I honestly wish I could make it at home because I crave it all the time. I also really like the atmosphere here. It's a cute, cozy spot, and I've always enjoyed coming here whether it's for a full meal or just something to drink. It can definitely get busy, but I think that says a lot about how much people enjoy it. Art Cafe has been one of my go-to spots for years, and I don't see that changing anytime soon. If you're going for the first time, I'd recommend the Chagall Bowl with Israeli couscous, shakshuka, or goat cheese malawach. And seriously, get the hot chai. It's SO good. There is no parking directly associated so either do street parking or the lot a few blocks away ( pay to park)
