This was the only stall at the Thursday Medford market with a line at 8:30AM. We weren't planning to visit this stall, but I'm always a sucker for good bread. We only picked up one loaf since we were traveling (and the pastries didn't look that great).
Chile Cheddar Loaf ($5.50) - There's a really nice looking crust that unfortunately doesn't have much of a crisp or hard texture and is instead crusty and chewy. Most likely it's been softened by the higher than usual humidity the last couple of days due to the rain. I believe their main bakery is an hour drive away as well, so that certainly doesn't help things. Still, the crumb is nicely open and chewy and has the fantastic flavor of cheddar cheese and vegetal pepper, not to mention a slight spicy kick. I can imagine this loaf being perfect on a more normal Medford summer day. (5/5)
Rise Up lauds themselves on baking the best bread in Southern Oregon and I can't argue against that. While degradation from transport to a farmers market is an expected occurrence, I still really enjoyed the bread. read more
