If Proof is the direction in which Houston nightlife is headed, I'm excited and terrified at the same time. The whole experience reminded me of my night at Marquee in Vegas, and if you know of which I speak, that either excites you or sends you running for the hills. David N.'s review sums up Proof as good as I could write it up, so I'll direct you there to start. Currently, Proof seems to be going for trendy-chic lounge with its "patio" area, and trendy-chic nightclub with its "bar" area. There's also a small enclave upstairs with arcade games and a pool table, presumably the unmentioned hipster-divey area where the line for bathrooms runs slightly shorter. If you're planning on coming to Proof at midnight on a weekend, I pity your wait in line if you don't have a connection to get you in. All outdoor seating was basically "reserved" for table service. We witnessed multiple parties get booted to the curb in favor of those requesting bottles. I will say service was good and remarkably consistent (unlike absolute travesties like Ei8ht). If enjoying claustrophobic bar service is your thing, you'll absolutely love the one a.m. crowd here. Trying to get anything done at the small indoor bar is sisyphean in nature. The outdoor bar (beer and shots only) is much faster, but cash only. Overall, Proof is a great see-and-be-seen bar that massively benefits from perfect weather nights like this past weekend. Assuming you're not a nightlife addict, it's a solid spot for the once-in-a-while trendy night out. Its status as a newly minted hot spot in Houston bodes well for its future, but it'll be interesting to see if Proof can brave the summer heat and continue chugging along as a plus bar (and, err, patio). read more

My friends suggested this place after dinner for my birthday. I had a great time but ended up so hot and sticky afterwards... We arrived around 1030 PM on Friday. No line and not too crowded. My friends found us a nice seating area. Drinks are relatively cheap... most well drinks costs between $6-$8. That Friday night was incredibly humid. There were fans blowing but it seemed like they were blowing in only one direction. I would not want to come here during summer! Luckily it's getting cooler now. Early on only house music was playing which I'm not really into. By midnight they were playing more top 40 and hip hop. Valet is about $8 but look around for street parking first! read more

Food truck on the roof of a 3 story bar? You'll find that at Proof. Came here Saturday night with a few friends, and I must say it was FUN! There was a good mix of people there, and it got really crowded so we did bottle service (a bit expensive). The waitress was pretty much non existent when she dropped off our bottle, too bad for her since we could have done 2 bottles if she cared enough to pay attention to us. The DJ was great! I had been hearing about this place for some time now and finally ended up going for a friends birthday this past Friday night. I arrived around midnight and there was quite a line out there. But it was only me so one of the girls at the front said if I signed up with my email for a birthday special that I could walk right in and thats what I did. Im assuming if your by yourself or its a group of girls you won't have any issues getting in. There was a good crowd once I got upstairs. There's a nice outdoor patio with some seating and they have fans out there so the heat isn't too terrible to be standing outside. The bar is inside and it wasn't as crowded as other places I've been to in Houston. A vodka/water is $6. There was small dance floor area inside. I didn't go into the restroom so I can't give my opinion on that and noticed there was a staircase for another level but didn't check it out. The music was good it ranged from Pop and EDM mostly and believe I heard some old school hip hop. I had fine time with my friends and would definitely come back again. read more

So glad they decided to revamp their layout on the roof. They have a new wooden bar opposite from where the old one was. Much nicer. I always had a problem with the old arrangement because it always had this wonderful smell of vomit in the corners :/ Go figure. However, smell is gone! Thank gawd. I usually come here for birthdays and not really by choice. The vibe is what I like about Proof. Good music.. not too many douchey drunks and the crowd is United Nations.. United We Stand? United Colors of Benetton.. ? You catch my drift. It can actually be really fun sometimes. My friends that meet us late are the ones that usually have issues with the long line. (They're complaints are apparently with a big Asian dude at the door. I may have already been on my 4th drink to hear the rest of that story.) Restrooms are upstairs. I have to walk up and down these stairs every time I pee?! Rethink your next beverage. Also, I get that Proof is supposed to be a bar + patio but they take all the "lounge" aspect away at night. They kept all those red couches blocked for VIP/bottle service ($250). I was there til 1:45am on Saturday, half those couches remained empty. Mmmk. Valet is now $12. I don't remember it being this much before. Maybe next time we'll settle for the parking lot across the street for $10. All my complaints aside, it's not a bad place to be in Midtown.. I'd still choose it over all the bars in that 2mi radius. I hear this is a better place to hang during happy hour. read more

Another fun Midtown bar! My favorite aspect of Proof is the set up. I love the spacious outdoor deck. Many bars claim to have an outdoor portion, and then it ends up fitting like 15 people. This deck has tons of space, and tons of seating. I also enjoy the little dance area in front of the DJ. It's not overbearing, but you can definitely slide in to shake it a little bit without being crowded or awkward. Great atmosphere for yuppies, for sure. This is perhaps the coolest lounge I have been because of its multi-dimensional structure. Do you dance the night away on a loud dance floor? Or do you want to get away from the sound and just engage in a pool game with your friends? Proof can fulfill your needs however you want to spend your night at a lounge with its many rooms that have different functions. Coming here with the whole senior class to celebrate our impeding graduation, I was expecting a super crowded setting on a rooftop lounge, but I was surprised at how spacious it was. Proof has both an outdoors section filled with coaches and chairs and an indoor section that includes a dance floor, small lounge enclave, and an upstairs pool room. Both sections have a bar (the indoor one is much bigger) so you don't have to wait too long to get a drink. The staff also constantly cleans the area so the setting isn't trashed by the drunk patrons unlike some lounges and bars. Perhaps the most impressive part for me is that despite the large amount of people, there are always seats and maneuvering rooms thanks to the lounge's smart organization and furniture placements! The only downside is the expensive drinks ($6 even for group special) but isn't that an issue with most drink places? Proof is certainly a great nightlife stop especially if you are partying with a large group! read more

Jump in your chromed out and lifted Chevy truck that's never once been used for actual farm work or any kind of outdoorsy work, pick up your 2nd cousin who's working as a receptionist at a tattoo shop who you're kind of dating, throw some gel in your hair until it spikes in the most extreme way possible, splash on as much Curve cologne as you can afford, and get to it! And hey, don't sweat parking your lifted truck in two parking spots. Nobody is as important as you, bro. You're so cool. read more

1. I've been to many rooftop bars and this one was very unimpressive. However, 2. The guy working the door on Saturday is great. Has an amazing attitude and let us right in, although there was a line. 3. Also, bartenders do a good job, we were very well taken care of. 4. Unfortunately, it didn't seem like the DJ cared much about whether or not the crowd was enjoying the music, since there was literally no one dancing aside from two drunk girls that were dry humping each other, which brings me to my next point. 5. This place reminded me of a zoo. Much like the Houston zoo, where the animals are all dying of heat, and it smells of manure. There were many buffaloes, and quite a large amount of rhinos, with the occasional flamingo that smelled like rotting fish. It would do this place some good if they were more picky about who they allowed into their establishment. When I go out, I want to party with leopards, not billy goats. I also don't appreciate seeing girls in denim shorts and Payless flats on a Saturday night while I'm in a dress from Caché and in heels. No offense to you ladies who don't like to dress up, but this is not Coachella. Also, 6. There was hardly a view of the city, since the only glass barrier was lined with cabana beds. 7. The best thing about this place was the taco truck. 8. They also have shisha. Which I found strange. But great for my habibis. 9. The bouncer said that the reason the crowd was so terrible was because "everyone [was] hungover from the Fourth of July", and "[they were] desperate to make some money that night", which I think is a load of crap, since it's been 24 hours, but who knows, maybe he's right. Bouncer also said it was in the top 3 rooftop bars in the US, which I also do not believe, because Vegas, New York, LA, and Miami have shown me much better. I would give my experience here negative score, but it doesn't do justice as I've only being here once on Halloween day, they might be better on other days. I don't have any problem to get in, initially I was waiting in line, the line was pact of Halloween bar crawl ppl but moves pretty fast, then i tipped bouncer guy (not asian kid) 20 dollar cash so I was able to enter directly. The roof was pact with drunken trashy people, lots of guys are intimidate and act like nasty predators. We couldn't dance at all due to too much ppl in way too small space. It was super cold on the balcony but super hot in dance floor, and we don't even want to try to flight with anyone to order drink. Their music is really bad, I wasn't enjoy at all. When we left, some girl stopped us and ask us to fix her hair because she had fight with her boyfriend and he pulled her hair off. If you only want to dance, drink and have good time with your friends, this place is definitely not the one, run away from it. But if you want to see dramas, reality shows, don't mind to get yourself into troubles, then you will enjoy a lot. read more

Went here a few times before. Once when it was roof. This particular time I went it was for a Yelp! event with a group of my friends. It's a nice setup, reminds me of a roof top bar I went to in NYC. Great view over midtown and DT Houston. The bartenders were attentive and service was good. Had the weather been warmer the space outside would've been put to use, but this time everyone was just chillin inside. I had a great time overall. Don't agree with the racist chant, I'm middle eastern, and although there is a huge line to wait for at the end, everyone gets in. After attending the place a few times, the bouncers recognize you and let you in easily even without waiting in the line. We joked that this former Roof bar just stuck a "P" in front of its name and reopened as a new bar, but it really has transformed to something better! For the few times I've been in the last couple of months, we've gone for Thursday happy hour to play darts and use their long tables inside for flip cup (I know, I'm getting too old for this game). Another time they had Eve 6 playing outside on a Sunday afternoon which you don't find often live (well-known, or in this case more formerly popular) bands. But overall, it like how chill it is and with great weather, a great place to go. Granted I hear it's getting more crowded, but I guess that's typical when bars become THE hotspot. I don't understand what Proof is supposed to be. My friends and I came here because people recommended it for clubbing. There were maybe four people dancing, awkwardly. This place was packed, but we had no problem getting in. Proof was packed with young professionals, which is great if that's what you're interested in. You can park across the street in the grass/mud/rocky lot, but be careful because it's super uneven. My friend's headlight popped out because of the potholes. Also, note, $5 for this lot. read more

Really cool inside, great decorations and different dance floors/pool table area/roof patio/hookah lounges. Great bar. However, the line on the weekend is ridiculous, especially because the bouncer is obviously racist. We waited in line for 15 minutes before giving up and going to the front of the line where we has seen other people cutting in, and sure enough we got in. I really like the look of this place and that is has a rooftop patio - I wish there were more in Houston I knew about! But even though this bar/lounge has a nice look, the all around aesthetic does not deliver. Based on my experiences, Proof starts off kind of (dare I say) trendy but then gets trashy pretty quickly. A lot of times the music is so loud (and pretty generic) it is impossible to carry a conversation. So I guess in that sense - Proof is not really much of a lounge as it is just another Midtown clubish bar. I have never had a problem getting in or had to tip a bouncer but there is definitely a smugness in the air while waiting in line. I wish Proof would class it up and live up to its potential. Take some notes from some of the nicer bars downtown and Montrose and dare to be different. read more

Came to Proof Bar on a beautiful Friday night, to meet up with a couple of friends. Got there a bit early, 10 pm no problem getting in by myself, just walked in. Being on the roof it has a great outdoor space and a pretty decent view of downtown. The service was pretty good and the crowd was really diverse. There were a lot of cute girls as well, which is a plus! Around midnight it filled up, but wasn't packed. The music was a good mix of house and EDM, my style. Having just moved to Houston from Montreal, it was nice to go to a place that at least had to vibe of being in Montreal. Will be back for sure. read more

It was sort of an afterthought, so my friend and I showed up under dressed. The bouncer asked us if we were there for a party. We said no. He said something about how our eyes twinkled in the moonlight and escorted us upstairs. Not really. Actually, he said we should have said yes, but let us in anyway. When we arrived at about 9:45, the crowd was thin which makes the hassle at the door slightly annoying. It did end up filling up. The bartenders were nice and friendly as was the crowd. The thing that makes Proof a little strange at night is that there is a DJ playing very loud music, but no where to dance and people were sort of awkwardly milling about. This is why Proof is not a regular stop on my weekend circuit.. Happy hour here is a different story. It's not crowded so you can have your first drink outside on the rooftop, your second playing darts, your third chatting up the bartender, your fourth upstairs playing pool, and your fifth playing Atari games. Binge drinking not your style? It's cool, 1 drink/locale per night of the week. Actually, they're not open Monday/Tuesday, but you get what I'm saying. I love rooftops. And I love Proof's set-up. They have a large patio with a bar, lounge-style seating, and a makeshift dance floor. There is also an indoor area (even though there are no doors so it's open air) with another bar inside. On the weekends, Proof plays a big of house, hip-hop, and pop. They do have bottle service but I don't like their policies (bottle minimums based on number of guests) so I've never tried it out here. Parking lot is valet only but you can find street parking in midtown if you're a skilled ninja like me. Hands down, one of my favorite spots in midtown. Came here with my bf and some gal pals on a Friday night. We didn't have a problem getting in and we came around 10:30pm, there was no line. I was not aware about the complaints about this bar being racist and what not. I've experienced the positive And negative at Gaslamp, but did not experience that here at Proof. We smoked the hookah and ordered some food. As the night went on the bar gotten more packed. We stayed outside the entire time. It was really hot, but it was better than being inside. I really enjoyed the hookah, since I don't smoke it often. I also enjoyed their Moscow mule. They even went around offering free shots. Well it was more like a sample of a mixed drink using Bacardi rum. And the guy also took our photo with the shots. Haha. Anyway towards the end of the night my group was having a blast. We all danced and enjoyed ourselves. There was one thing or person that bothered me and it was this young looking black guy that asked if he can sit at our table. Of course we were like.....uh ok. Whatever, we were all having fun, but he crossed the line when he grabbed the hookah out of my bfs hand. Like we do not know you and you're acting like we're close friends. It was pretty rude of him taking advantage of us. And he left after smoking our hookah and said he will be back, but never did. He probably was harassing other random people. No need for me to give you a play-by-play of my night, how many good-looking friends I came with, how quickly the bartenders served us, or any other ways Proof did or did not meet my ridiculous first world expectations. I had a great time. You probably will too. Last time we were there the girl I was with got her pursed snatched, and Proof's staff bent over backwards trying to find it. And, they did so all day Sunday as well. For all I know, James, the manager, went Dark Knight on everyone and started breaking knee-caps to track this purse down. He ended up finding it and got everything returned. Saved us a lot of time and money. They've got an awesome view, a good dance floor with good tunes, outdoor seating, reasonably priced drinks, and a staff that takes care of its customers--what more do you need? i went here with a group of friends to see Dillon Francis a few weeks back and let me tell you that there's 10$ parking across the street before you pay the 30$-50$ for their own parking. The place is nice inside and the crowd was okay. What was NOT okay was the staff. THE BARTENDER HELD MY FRIENDS CARD. Since he went to the restroom most often, he was our designated drink getter so he had already gone to the bar 3 times. At this point he said he thinks the bar tender was friendly and generous with our alcohol portions (12$ Rose Kennedys + Gratuity). At his next visit the bartender held his card and tried to convince him that he lost it! It wasn't until I rolled up with a flashlight to look for it that the bartender magically found it under the register. Then, we were harassed by a security who claimed to have seen me drinking, mind you im 20 and was the designated driver, when I had gotten a water. She followed us around the club and grabbed my friend, he had 4 cups he had to take back so I was helping him with 2. She threatened us to kick us out and was very rude while we we're trying to explain what was going on. The owner is only responds with "well they're third party companies" because in their eyes nothing is ever wrong with them. Joke of a place. Go somewhere else read more

Horrible experience when going to see Puddle Of Mudd who did not show up. If you want a table, be prepared to give a CC, where they will run at least $200 to sit at that table. When I entered the venue, there were some tables that showed reserved - but I got there early, just so I could get a place to sit. I found a spot but after about 30-45 mins, they told us that I needed to give them a CC and they would run a charge or $200 to remain seated at that table (this amount varied based on who you talked to - going up to $350). They plopped down a Reserved sign and said it would be reserved IN CASE someone wants to reserve it. Meanwhile there were empty tables all around me. And they remained empty the entire night. While my party was large - we were going to spend well OVER $200 (we spent at least $600), we were paying seperately. While I understand that they want you to spend money on drinks because it's a free concert, it was unorganized and people were extremely rude (which no doubt is because of management requirements). The waitstaff looked just embarressed by these requirements. This is not the first time I've been there for this type of event. I've been there multiple times, but never been treated like this. I'm so turned off by the whole experience, I doubt i'll ever go there again. read more

So I'm in the group 20-30 age group and the place was a different atmosphere then what I am use to. I like clubs and bars where I see my people and we chilling enjoying he night life without worrying if some ish gone pop off so this place was cool. Ya know everything is on a rooftop for some reason I got it confused with Clayton's where the pool is at anyways since it wasn't that hot we enjoyed ourselves and didn't sweat as much there is a bar inside as well plenty of space and shoes to rest your feet. Have mixed feelings about this place. Went on a Saturday night before the line got too long. Drinks were inconsistent. Sometimes super weak, and sometimes strong. There are only TWO bathrooms!? Even at 10:30 pm there was a long line. It's a poor oversight for a club this size to have only two bathrooms. Things I like: It's spacious, huge outdoor rooftop area, has large bar space, and plenty of seating. Things I didn't like: The music seemed to be fine for most people but it was still too "untz untz" clubby for me. The people here... some are here to just have a good time and have fun, and others it seems they want to make a scene. I wanted to make a request to the DJ and the Bouncer gave me a realllly hard time and threatened to escort me out. I don't think that was necessary. I gave 20 dollars in cash for them and was still charged 59 dollars for them. I was treated like a piece of scum for it and personally do not feel welcome here anymore. I will call my bank to complain to possibly receive my money back and possibly to the Better Buisness Bureau. The bartender in question is a short blond that was working during Theresa's Halloween bash. I do not feel welcome here and personally will not recommend this bar to anyone I know I will continually complain online for the way I was treated. *Last night* So last night me and friend went to go see Drowning Pool, doors opened at 6pm and first band should've gone on by 8pm. Late start, no one played until 9:30pm or a little before that I believe. The sound was horrible (you could visibly see how frustrated the band and the sound guy was due to it. We left early because we were hungry and I had believed they would have a food truck but none were on site. I probably won't be coming here ever again....especially considering my car was broken into as well. I did hear from a previous owner that they've been having difficulty with since the hurricane and with renovations to the club (retractable roof eventually I think) but honestly I don't think I'll be coming back here again. read more

If I had to review this place with one word it would be this - Pandemonium. This is my first time leaving a bad review for anything, ebay, amazon, yelp, google reviews, ect, but I felt I want to help another soul avoiding having an experience like I had. Bought tickets for an event on Sept 16 2022 and the club's site added a 9 dollar service fee. For what? What service exactly was provided? It's an automated web site, are we paying bots now? Ballet systematically boosted up the price from 20 to 40 when the first parking area was full. The ballet attendants were uneducated gentlemen of Arabian origin who were dressed like filthy street beggars. They were loud, rude, condescending and ungroomed with questionable hygiene. 90 percent of the doorman/ bouncers were incompetent. The man doing the frisking before the metal detector was the only well educated, well natured man. He deserved to work in a better environment. The inside was dirty with no seating except for tables upstairs which went for 400 a piece without bottles. Standing all night is excellent isn't it? I do have to give props to the air conditioning system downstairs it was nice and cool, however it was the complete opposite upstairs. If that's where you want to be be prepared to sweat like a pig. The Dj that was working that night was a the worst DJ I ever came across in 20 years of going to events. He didn't even announce the acts before they went on and he talked over their performance. The night ended ahead of time due to a brawl that broke out. Instead of just kicking out the brawlers they kicked everybody out before the main acts performed. That's an intelligent decision that took the paying customers into consideration correct? Avoid this place like the black death. I visited this roof-top bar yesterday because I was chasing down a food truck (what else is new). It seemed quite interesting and inviting. Like I said, it's on a roof, downtown, and even the food truck was on the roof! As I waited for my food, the crowd seemed mixed and music was pretty good. I might go back as it gets warmer. I came here on a slow night, but I can only imagine how fun it can be on a Friday or weekend night. Service was good, drinks were about average for the area and people were shooting the soccer ball into the trash cans in front of me. There are several cozy little nook booths for couples to sit at on nice evenings. There is both an indoor and outdoor seating areas, but if you're going to be on a roof, sit outside...it's quieter too! I went for my birthday and I had on a cute little black dress, hair and makeup made up cute. My husband was wearing a brand new michael kors white v-neck, dark blue jeans and new high top osiris's. We looked good and when we got up to the bouncer he wouldnt let us in because they said my husband had too many tattoos. I was shocked...its fucking midtown(almost montrose)...we asked to see the manager and another bouncer came out and he said we couldnt get in because my husbands v-neck was gang affiliated. What fucking gang reps Michael Kors?!?. We proceded to point out other people who were already in who had the same type of clothes and amount of tattoos but to no avail. Screw this place and their bigotry. I had to call everyone that was already on their way there for my bday and reschedule everything. Proof offers you a lounge, rooftop, and dance club experience all in one package. If you come here on a Saturday night, be prepared to wait in line if you're a guy. Cute girl? No problem. Walk right in! It gets pretty packed but if you hang around the patio area, you get some breathe room with a bit of fresh air. The dance floor is crammed at every corner and getting a drink can take close to 20 min depending on how hard you try. Overall, a nice atmosphere with decent club music. There is an upstairs with a pool table and some arcades but all the action is down stairs. As other reviews have stated, Proof offers a lot but in a mediocre way. It isn't the best in any category but if you're here with some friends, you're bound to have a good time. read more

Went to go see Puddle of Mudd Thursday night, sold out show, wanted to get there early to grab a table (my girlfriend said she has never had a problem despite the reviews stating otherwise). Doors opened at 6 and we arrived around 6:20p.m. The line was short, 10 or less and took only minutes. Reserved signs on some of the tables, not all, so we chose one that didn't. We were only a group of 3 waiting on the rest, no waiters to get drinks so inside with the cool bartender. Tall glasses $7 a pop. Okay - acceptable for a show or any bar after happy hour. We sat back down at the chosen table, drank and took in the scene, speculating what this 90's rock band would be like today. More on this in a bit. About 30-45 minutes later a waitress came over and asked if we wanted to buy the table $200 minimum. Um - these tables aren't reserved. Oh, we got here late we all have other jobs she snarked. Okay, sure, we'll be spending more than $200-we have 8 more coming. She wanted a CC and an ID, why if we are paying cash we asked, if you need receipts to total we can give you those for the boss man we've already spent $50 with just us three. She left and a bit later a different girl did the same thing, we explained the same. 20 min. later a bouncer came over with the same story, but now the table was $350 min. and that someone might want bottle service at the table and it was their best table. He was shocked when we told him it has been a $200 min. from the girls. This is only happening to our table not the other 7 around us. (We didn't realize it was under the neon "I LOVE YOU" sign as it was daylight when we got there. But still, other tables were not getting hustled and they told us they hadn't reserved the table or coughed up a CC. Each waitress or bouncer who came over all stated their manager was making them come over, and it was apparent they hated having to convey his directive when it was obvious the $200 or $350 levels were still going to be achieved with a crowd of 11. In the end one in the group gave her card and we proceeded to anticipate the show. Hot dogs were $3, unless you ordered them from the table then $4 dollars - corner store dawgs blow these out of the water. Drinks arrived in short glasses from then on. Wine was $8 dollars and DosXX $6, but that vacillated. There was no continuity with pricing or stories. It seemed like they were all operating independently. The take away... the place is a cool outdoor venue with a big bathroom (a plus for the girl line). The staff had a pretty good attitude (bartenders were tip top). The girls had the roughest job having to dish out the managers orders. We ended up with Tori who took care of the group diligently - you go girl! AND the band didn't show up!!! If it hadn't been for a free ticket and a Lyft ride I would have been out some $45 dollars between ticket and a $20 parking fee. Will I go back? - maybe for a HH or a weekend outing, but not for an event. read more
