Rise Rooftop is a great spot and I highly recommend it. The venue is really cool and the drinks are great as well. Everything at Rise was fantastic, i honestly was treated so well by these guys. They were cool from the front entrance line to the end. They even gave us tips on where else to visit in Houston. The sound system is great, they even have this cool retractable roof. I want to say I had a good experience with only one bartender I don't remember his name but he works mostly at the inside bar with a beard (sorry )and I did have to buy a couple drinks different times. I am glad that a concept such as Rise Rooftop has come to Houston as I think there are few places quite like it. It does not only offer a great atmosphere for a night club but is also very uniquely artistic with murals of singers and iconic performance artists throughout the building. Rise also features 1 great DJ Booth and another large stage for live performances. Let's not forget the retractable $1M roof that allows for the show to go no matter the weather. I would give this place zero stars if I could. They continually defy the city's noise ordinance and are extremely rude to any of its neighbors who call about the noise. I went to rise rooftop this past Friday...I never valet my car because I don't trust people to drive my baby. When I got there I decided to go ahead a valet, I walked my car before they took with a employee and explained that the car is lowered and to be extra careful with the tires, they drive my car off, later I noticed my car was parked in a different place, the right driver front tire is inches next to a light pole. Which I thought was weird considering it was a empty parking lot. I looked over the car and notice the driver front tire has been curb checked and the Michelin letters are rashed and peeling off. The valet people denied everything...not only is it their job to take car of my car, but when I walk my car with them and ask to be extra careful and it gets damaged, then you tell me to kick rocks, move my car from its original location, the guy that drove it mysteriously disappears, as part of your cover up...I'm never going to this place again... read more

This place is just awful. I have been here twice and the first time was scary and gross. The staff is awful and rude, if your being hit on and your not interested they treat you like your not there. Our buddy bought a table and they treated everyone like dogs. The bouncer was rude and uptight he gave us a hard time in letting us in even though we were on the guest list. Got harassed by men and thrown on the ground then thrown out immediately for "underage drinking" when i hadn't had a drink the entire time, i tried to explain that i was getting hit by these men and the bouncers and police didn't care, just got told that if i stayed i'd get my face kicked in and harassed and told by the men outside that it was my fault. Great atmosphere and good for large events, but mediocre drinks. Although it's not unheard of to encounter pricey drinks in Houston, I wasn't extremely satisfied with the bar and the options. I have been to two events that were hosted for ~100 people and have had a great time at Proof. I don't think I've had anything remarkable at the bar, but I haven't ever been disappointed by a drink. The main attraction for the bar is most likely the iconic "I Love You" sign that sits near the back of the rooftop by the DJ and dance floor area. The rooftop design is wonderful because it's large and offers a lot. The rooftop has four main areas: the entrance with some seating, the main rooftop area with a dance floor, the sofas and tables on the far side of the rooftop, and the large bar area under the roofing. Depending on where you are, the atmosphere is a bit different, which makes it a good place to hang out for a bit. Overall, it's a fun place to get together with a lot of people, you should snap a few pics at the "I Love You" sign, and it's decent for a rooftop bar. However, I wouldn't decide to go to Proof for the drinks. read more

If I could give it no stars I would... Very disappointed with this place... My family and I went to watch some cover bands there on Sunday, April 25th... Got there super early so we could get a table... About 15 minutes into the concert, the waitress came and told us we had to move because someone j bought the table... How do you do that if a whole family is already sitting there... Well, that's how they do business, so we moved... We ended up getting a stand up table because someone was leaving... Not even 5 minutes later, we were told we had to move again because that table was bought as well... We asked to speak to management, turns out everyone there was the manager... Boris show was way to crowded even for pre-covid expectations! My first time at this venue and it was immobilizing. Thank god it was an artist I may never see again so of course it was worth it, but VIP would have been worth it also had I have known! I agree valet could improve but they are kind towards customers and just trying to efficiently communicate with each other which can come off a little aggressive & unclear. At the end of the night we paid them $40 to park my car 3 blocks down, had to wait in line to get my keys then walk 3 blocks down to my car myself...which was silly. But that really isn't an issue to ruin the experience. I would also recommend an upgrade in the sound first and foremost and perhaps a different staging set up (or stop selling of tixs earlier if they're going to sell out. This is just my opinion. I am giving this place one star because a lower option does not exist. One of the few things I hate in this world are racists, and that's EXACTLY what Proof is. RACIST. Been hearing a lot about this Proof bar recently, how it's growing popular and the hot spot to go to for nightlife. But the rumors are also accompanied by complaints on how they are racists and make up bullshit excuses to not let people of certain ethnicity in. Especially Asians. But seeing how some of my Asian friends have gotten in before, I decided to give it a try. And these complaints were proven correct! So I dropped by Saturday night with my girlfriend and two other (Asian) friends. Our group consisted of two guys and two girls, an even guy-to-girl ratio. Line was very short. Some people were hanging around the front of the line, and several were let inside without waiting. I thought it was pretty normal for bouncers to let in people they know. I looked ahead of the line to see a pretty mixed crowd of people. But as time passed on, people began to leave the line, one group after another. And not surprisingly, ALL THESE GROUPS WERE ASIAN. What everyone that was rejected was being told was that you can only get in with a reservation at this time. We of course did not have a reservation. But neither did the group in front us, consisting of two black chicks and a Hispanic dude, nor with the group behind us, consisting of several white dudes and one white chick, had a reservation as well when we informed them. I thought to myself - well I guess nobody is getting in. WRONG. After the group in front of us was told about the reservation only policy, they were let in even though they mentioned loud and clear that they did not have one. Then came our turn. After being told the reservation policy, WE WERE GESTURED TO LEAVE THE LINE. And so I did. I left the line, but did not leave the vicinity of the area, just so I could turn back and see what would happen to the several white guys and the white chick behind us. THEY WERE LET IN. I DO NOT RECOMMEND. They turn a lot of people away giving any ridiculous reason. My group had to tip the bouncer $100 to get in and when we got in, it wasn't even packed. The only reason we tipped was because we were there for a good friend's birthday. They had plenty of room to fit everyone in the place. They like to create a line and let people think its really packed when the place is half empty. Here are the reasons they gave us for not letting us in before we tipped: 1. have to wear a collared shirt 2. have to be "25+ years old" (we were all 25+ so that excuse didn't even work) 3. guys HAVE to get bottle service in order to get in 4. and then they like to cut you off right in the middle of your group of friends to make you tip to get in. The bartenders inside were nice and served everyone in order and promptly. However, the door guy and the manager are not so nice. They have a girl-guy ratio that they have to meet and won't let guys in if they aren't with girls. Actually, if you're not white or with someone who looks white, good luck getting in. Let's be honest with ourselves here for a moment, every pocket of Houston has its stereotypes of clientele... from the bros, the hipsters and even the not-so-infamous fickle 500. Proof has chosen to go against the stereotypes and just be an all-around fun bar in midtown... quite the business model, eh. This past weekend while in town with my lady and some other elites, we decided to hit proof to meet with a childhood friend. I have been to proof when It was a something else (the roof? Someone refresh my memory here) and I remember a large patio.. that's it. Once up the stairs, you're almost hit with a fork in the road; do I want to dance or do I want to chill on the patio.... That is the million dollar question. We opted for the patio which had space heaters, fully stocked bars, a DIVERSE group of patrons and efficient staff. Tis the season where the weather drops and the wind-chill picks up, but we were nice and comfortable considering we were on a roof downtown. As previously mentioned, the crowd was your typical midtown, gay, straight, blue, green, black... doesn't matter. Everyone came together and nobody blinked an eye; I even saw a guy in head-to-toe ed hardy and nobody hackled him; it feels like as if I travelled back in time to LA circa 2001 when it was the norm. the bar staff was quick and served up a stiff drink when good choices in beer on tap. Overall, refreshing. That moment when you walk in and say to yourself "wow, a bar in midtown not filled to the brim with d-bags... I can dig it". If you give yourself a nice breezy Houston night + proof, you have a good time on your hands whether you're looking for a chill night out or to shake what your mama gave ya. I will never return here. My friend and I carpooled here for a friend's birthday. We are both girls and it was our first time here. We came around 1:00am, and there was a line. While waiting in line, we witnessed the bouncer letting people cut the line and rejecting others. I don't understand why there was even a line at that time? The bar was huge and could have simply accomodated the ~20 people in line, especially since more people were LEAVING the place than they were letting in. Asian bouncer was sexist. Awesome atmosphere, great bartenders. It's a really stylish and cool lounge type bar. But.... It's extremely racist and I will never go back. I went here on my birthday and we got a table with bottle service. We were there ahead of a number of my friends, who, when they arrived were not allowed in (despite the bar being nearly completely empty at the time). My friends had to call me, as the doorman was demanding our party name, even after giving the name of my friend who had made the reservation. The door man still would not let them in. I went downstairs to see what was going on, only to be told I needed to have a general manager confirm our reservation before they could come in. I went back upstairs where I found the member of the staff with whom we made the reservation, and he walked downstairs to my friends (who were being verbally harassed by the doorman) and got them in. The door guy demanded to know how many more we were expecting so I said about six or seven. He told me to make sure they're dressed better than the people he just left in (they were in black vnecks and nice jeans because they had gotten off work at The Fish in midtown earlier). However with one scan around the bar when we got up to the top we saw at least ten other people there in extremely casual tshirts with pictures on them, sneakers and jeans. So we thought this would be the end of the issues, we straightened out the party confusion. WRONG. After a few more of my friends arrived (with similar difficulty and harassment at the door) we were told by one of the staff member with whom we made the reservation that he could not allow in any more of my friends because: "honestly if we keep letting more of your group in it will become a racial issue." I am a white female. A number of people in my party were Asian, so all of our suspicions about the door personnel being racist were confirmed by that one statement. The previous week I saw the door guy kick at least twenty people out of line in front of me for "dress code" and when I got to the front I was allowed in in MY black vneck and jeans (I had just gotten off work at The Fish that night). So I based my entire birthday night off the idea that I was allowed in the week before in the EXACT same clothing as a few of my friends. Not to mention the fact we spent a minimum of $500 on bottle service, a reserved space, and drinks, so one would assume they would treat us right. All the bartenders and waitresses up top were great, super nice, attentive... The door staff and GM were the issue. Girls night out! We self parked our cars in the street and the valet guys ran over and told us to pay them. They said it was for them to guarantee our cars wouldn't get towed. What a lame excuse to hustle us of our money. It wasn't difficult to get in, but I wasn't feeling the vibe here. There weren't many people and my girls and I wanted to chill before we hopped to another bar so we got a few drinks. The bartender was friendly and fast.. no problems there. We tried to find a place to grab a seat and noticed that every seating area had a reserved sign. No one was sitting there so we sat down, but was immediately asked to remove ourselves. No one came for a good hour! Those tables were just vacant! Calm down.. We don't have infectious viruses on our butts. We just wanted to sit and enjoy our drinks instead of standing the whole time. I hate going to places where the entry requirements are not set in stone. Places that would deny you because you're not wearing the right type of shoes, the right type of shirt, or wearing the right type of skin color. You know those places. Well, Proof lounge will not deny you based on your race, and I don't know what will allow you to get in or or get denied at the door at any given night. My guess is if you're driving a car that cost north of $40k, valet at the lot, and wearing some shirt showing off your Gucci belt and your LV wallet, you'll always get in. But for guys like me who love wearing his (nice) t-shirts, it's really a hit or miss. The last time I was here, I was initially denied entry because supposedly they didn't allow anyone with a t-shirt in. At the time I was wearing a nice t-shirt, dress shoes, and a pair of premium jeans. My friend whom I was with was wearing a nice dress shirt and also a pair of dress shoes. However, as we walked away the bouncer flashed his flashlight toward us and allowed us in anyway. Cover charge was $10 (There's always a cover charge to get in here and hence, this is not one of my favorite places to go in midtown), and guess what? TONS of guys were wearing T-shirts. I even saw a couple of guys who wore t-shirt, SHORTS and FLIP FLOPS! For a place that tries to be "upscale" and denied entry to someone dressing decent, why would you allow someone in shorts and flip flops in? What criteria do they use to determine who gets in and who doesn't? Race? I doubt it. I'm Asian, and for anyone who's been here, there's always tons of Asians frequenting this place. Looks? Obviously premium jeans and dress shoes are better than shorts and flip flops. Whatever the bouncer feels like? Most probably. If you manage to get in and don't mind paying the cover charge, you could probably have a good time here. They do offer hookah, a pretty good vibe, and lots of people dressing nicely for people watching. But personally, I hate not being sure about whether or not I could get in to anywhere. Especially places that would require me to pay to get in. Unless my friends want to celebrate something at Proof lounge, I think I'll hang out somewhere else. Up until last night, my only experience at Proof was during happy hours organized by my coworkers during week nights. It's usually dead, the music is questionable unless one of us gets the jukebox and the drinks are pricey for how mediocre they are. The bartenders are hit or miss and can usually be found talking to each other or looking at their phones instead of being attentive and seeing if someone needs another drink. Last night was the first time I went to Proof on a Saturday night with my boyfriend and two other friends. We started at Leon's Lounge and my friends decided they wanted to see what was happening at Proof. We were casually dressed, my boyfriend was in a t-shirt and jeans and I had a blouse, jeans and Toms like flats. I'm assuming when we got to the line (the fact that there is a line to get in is laughable) to get in that two of us were allowed in because we were females. When it came to my boyfriend and my other friend, their licenses were scrutinized, my friend got in, and another guy came up to my boyfriend to loudly tell him they were only letting him because he was with a "beautiful lady" and to wear a collared shirt next time. Ok, that's fine, we weren't prepared for it so we overlooked the "dress code". Once inside, the crowd is the complete opposite of what I want to be around. People that want to be seen. Lots of "Housewives of [insert city]" type women and guys who think dressing well means an ill-fitting button up tucked into ill-fitting jeans. We also saw many t-shirts, v-necks and even a guy in a tank top and shorts. How exactly did those guys get in? We made our way to the outside bar. I had to stare at a bartender to get her attention once again and got a subtle eye roll when I gave her my order. I decided to close my tab as soon as I got my drinks. We found the least crowded spot possible, yet there was still someone nudging my back the whole time we were there. The music was mostly Rihanna and Pitbull, which is fine when I'm appropriately inebriated, but I wasn't, so it was annoying. Bad dancing inside, older white males standing around outside, sloppy girls that look like they belong in a Yaz commercial were crawling all over. Proof has four things I hate most at bars/lounges/clubs: Overly crowded, slow service, long line to the restroom ALL NIGHT LONG, and sweaty people (I don't mind if there's distance between them and I, but that wasn't the case). It took me almost half an hour to get my drinks and to walk across the patio to get to the other side while holding 2-3 drinks and trying not to spill it. I'm a tiny girl so trying to squeeze through everyone was almost impossible. On top of that, there's no AC!! Ever since the owners changed they've been so strict on letting people inside.the bouncers only let their butt buddies in and even if you have reservations you still have to wait in line.the line moves at a glacier pace and even the side line;also known as "if you know someone stand here" area.
