My first experience here was on a Saturday night and I honestly wasn't sure what to expect. We brought a group of friends as two of them aren't from Texas and had never two-stepped before. The venue itself was pretty crowded as expected, but the dance floor was a lot less crowded than the areas around it. That is, until line dancing songs came on! They played a good mixture of country music, hip hop music and a random variety of line dance songs (Boot Scoot Boogie, Cupid Shuffle, The Wobble, etc). The music mix was seriously SO HOUSTON that it made the night extra fun! Also, we found out that they do FREE two-stepping lessons at 8pm on Friday nights, so we will definitely be returning with our group of friends for that. Came here on Friday night to learn some new dance moves! It started at 8pm, and you do not need your own partner to come. They all rotate in circle so everyone gets to dance with everybody. If you download the app with the QR code they have in the front, it's free to get in. I believe this was 18+ up for the dance class. There was one instructor and he danced with you in the circle too. Ladies learned the dance first then it was the boys. Then we all come together and danced. It looked like we weren't the only first timers here. We've learned Poka and barn yard dance. Poka was a lot of turning and that just made me dizzy. Barn yard was so much more fun, it was easy to follow. The drinks were good and we had a good time! read more

Not my favorite, but disclaimer I've only been to two Western bars, Stampede and Wild West. I definitely prefer Wild West even though it's smaller, but I felt like the crowd was better and people just wanted to have fun, dancing, no expectations. At Stampede it's huge, but people were not as friendly and most were overly drunk and obnoxious. Fyi they had a constant replay of a video clip of two girls riding the bull while facing reach other and wearing skimpy bikinis... They had firemen there that night promoting their calendar, granted it was for a good cause but you could donate any amount and get them to remove their tops... Maybe I've outgrown the overly sexualized promotions or was just expecting a classier venue, but it just didn't sit well with me. We did enjoy some of the line dancing but with so many people, there wasn't much room to move. At Wild West people were overall polite, asking you to dance, even tolerating a newbie like me and my lack of country dancing skills, then thanking you for the dance. Just my preference, I like more intimate settings but if you're one for huge crowds then this is the place for you. Recently, I flew to Houston to celebrate my birthday with my boyfriend and his family (my boyfriend and his dad have birthdays close to mine). It's so fun!! When I am in town I always drag my brother and sisters in laws out for two steppin and mechanical bull riding at least once. This has both. I am not even skilled at two stepping, I just love to watch the couples dance effortlessly. Now I will jump out there and line dance but other than that, I am mostly a spectator. The whole club smelled like cigarettes ! & im not sure what gave me more of a headache, the worker talking for the bull rides, or the cigarette smell! Stampede Houston is truly the best bar I've ever been to. Anything that could be wrong with a bar, they've thought of it and made it right. The DJ played a great mix of country and a little bit of hip hop, even some older jams like Funky Cold Medina. Bartenders are friendly and pour a strong drink. The bathrooms are huge, clean, and even have an attendant. The whole place is clean; I noticed bouncers and bussers cleaning up regularly throughout the night. They play like 40 minutes of couples twostepping, and then 20 minutes of linedancing and pop/hiphop. Drinks are not too expensive, cover isn't too bad. They have plenty of pool tables that you can play for free. I was also told you can sign up to participate in their pool tournaments. You can line up for free mechanical bull rides. Came here with a group of friends last night. It was a huge facility. Note that it is recessed from the Eastex feeder (I passed it and had to circle around). Extremely large parking lot and also has valet service. We came here before the winter weather, and so the place was pretty empty from opening (before 8p) to 11:30 when I left. Amy was our server and she was great, very friendly and informative (only her 4th day). It was Thursday and they had $2 drinks (everything but Red Bull or Patron) all night. Like I said nobody was there so not much dancing, it may be different feel when crowded. Bouncers walk the floor and at the door, I was told by one they have fights a lot on Saturdays. They have free dance lessons, though it was cancelled last night. One person in our group is an dance instructor so he led some lessons for our group and some of the waitresses joined. Large dance floors, multiple bars, mechanical bull, pool tables, friendly staff, cute hostesses and servers and bartenders.
